Re: Culture and Language
This may or may not interest players and or GM... it was a small phenomena apparently late in the period.
Bartitsu - Victorian Period European Mixed Martial Arts. Teaches walking-stick combat (Light Club) , Cape/Cloak Use (from Fencing) — some wrestling, jiu jitsu and Judo in London.
Cane (Light Club is a Broadsword skill) is Sw +1, Thr +1 while the other skills maneuvers are available with emphasis on quick incapacitation for a short period, to allow the user to clear the area.
From Wikipedia- Bartitsu placed greatest emphasis upon the Vigny cane fighting system at the striking range; A modification of Saber Fencing) and upon jujutsu [NOT Judo] (and, secondarily, the "all-in" style of European wrestling) at the grappling range. Savate and boxing methods were used to segue between these two ranges, or as a means of first response should the defender not be armed with a walking stick.
