Aurora 1-3 The Starship Aurora

You are sent to cabins to rest and relax.  You are given restricted access to the military quarter, where you can purchase equipment and weapons at your security clearance.  You have full access to the residential quarter for purchase of non-military items, and this is also where your quarters are at.  You are not given access yet to the command quarter or the science quarter, though you are aware that may change once your mission details are distributed and ByChem and UPF become involved.

OOC: Here is the map again and a reminder about the station.  Feel free to move about and begin your purchasing.

quote:
"It is a space station where many scientific studies and researches are performed.  As such, it has a military annex as well as the scientific and civilian annexes."

"There is a military quarter.  Because of the danger of the experiments and the security threat, the military presence is high there.  In the wrong hands, many of those experiments could be very dangerous.  The command quarter is where the scientists and military commanders meet, strategize, and negotiate what can and cannot be done.  They also oversee all projects from that quarter.  The science quarter is where the experiments are performed and is subject to high security.  The residential quarter has shops, sleeping quarters, and other areas for civilians."

He laughs slightly.  "As you can probably guess, a research company like ByChem had to lobby heavily, but it has the largest showing of scientists at Aurora.  That's how they could immediately dispatch this flagship once the distress calls were finally heard.  You see, the Aurora has special qualities about it that make it highly valuable to conduct research.  But I'm sure you don't care about those details.  Let's just say it's high value real estate for scientists."

He points to his wrist.  "We still have 5 days' travel until we get there.  One thing you should know is that we are a flagship permanently stationed at Aurora.  Therefore, we have the honor of having many research projects performed here, particularly those that cannot be done on Aurora or for which there simply is not enough space there to perform.  Whenever you're ready, I will have someone give you a tour of the ship so you can stretch your legs.  Otherwise, just take the next five days to relax."

General Ashe adds that the map of Aurora shows just one level.  There are actually about 20 such levels, so that it looks like a giant barrel.  I say 'about' because each level can be detached and new ones added, so the number of levels varies...usually increasing because of the high demand for that area of space."

Re: Aurora 1-3 The Starship Aurora

First on Bartja's list of things to do is receive some medical attention to his wounds.  He could imagine nothing worse than having come this far to get an infection from some experimental strain of fungus.

After his wounds are tended and he's feeling well enough to explore and plan, he heads to the weapons dealer.  He marvels at some of the new equipment that has come onto the market and pours over the tool enhancements that are also available.  Whatever he chooses to spend his credits on, weaponry will never be out of style.  Everywhere one goes in the Federation, they seem to be needed....

After going through decontamination and getting cleaned up, she will make her way down to the gear & weapons stores (with her proper clearance & papers) and looks for a place to shop.  If there is a computer or customer service rep around, she will ask for opinions and suggestions on which store/stores to visit.

Re: Aurora 1-3 The Starship Aurora

The group takes a stroll over to the military district to look at guns and weapons.

A man steps up and introduces himself.  "My name is Spelling.  Arthur Spelling.  I'm assigned as the civilian contact for your travels in the military district.  I will help you coordinate purchase of weapons and ensure your security clearance is accepted.  We do charge an agency fee of 15% standard on anything you purchase weapons related, but I can help you find almost anything.  If you want to do it on your own, I'll report that to ByChem, but I can't guarantee you'll find...or be able to purchase...as much."

OOC: Here's how we're going to handle this:

If you accept Spelling as your agent, he adds +25% to being able to find a weapon.

Any weapon in the basic Alpha Dawn book has an availability of 90% (-5% for each item purchased...due to diminishing stock).

Any weapons in Zebulon's Guide but not Alpha Dawn has a 70% chance of being found.

Any weapons from the Star Frontiersman have a 50% chance of being found.

By "weapons" I mean any kind of exotic equipment, screens, etc.  There is only one roll per item, not per character.  However, if you pay 100 credits (non refundable), Spelling will do an additional search for the item.  This gives you a 25% chance of finding the item.

CAVEAT: If a weapon or item is really just unlikely to be found, I may veto it, but I will try not to except in exceptional circumstances.

For these rolls, I will be doing all the dice rolling.

Go ahead and roll for the availability of those items, now that Desi has said she will use him as an agent.  Just start at the top and roll for each, going down.  There is a minimum of 1 credit for his agent's fee, so round up to the next credit for each.

Also, you don't have to feel like this is your only chance to buy weapons.  This whole next adventure will be fairly open with you being able to continue to explore options.

OOC: As for purchases, you will have access to further purchases for awhile now, so don't feel you have to make all decisions right now.

I will open a new thread about current weapons/equipment.

What I'd ask that you do is first post a list of your equipment (and ammo).

Then below that, if you are using a unique weapon not in the original rules (i.e., from Starfrontiersman), then please copy and paste the description of the weapon/item into that, as well as damage, range, etc., and please indicate the issue it comes from.  That will help me, and it will also help others visualize the equipment and be able to give suggestions in character, as well as decide if they want something similar.

For those who have not been following what we mean by the "Star Frontiersman," they are a series of ongoing publications adding new features to Star Frontiers.  They come out about 2-3 times a year  All those rules and magazine issues are available free online at this site:

http://www.starfrontiersman.co...ads/starfrontiersman

Overall, they are very high quality and a lot to give new dimensions to the game.  They are a fun read too.

You can download them or read them online.

Re: Aurora 1-3 The Starship Aurora

Bartja prepares for the meeting, going over his list of wants and needs as he strokes his gyro-jet rifle.  It had been years since he'd used one.  With no formal training in para-military weaponry of any sort, he rather hoped that if there was a fire-fight in their future (and there almost certainly was) - THIS gun would be able to make a difference in his hands....

...and if not the gun, at least he'd been able to train his hands also.

"Ready when you are" he says absently to Kri'lik.

S'Krllk is prepared for the meeting, and looks it. But despite that fact he constantly adjusts his new bodycomp, continuously querying its sensors and calibrating them, he appears to be paying attention and is ready to go.

Re: Aurora 1-3 The Starship Aurora

Before the big meeting, Hammer attempts to recover some of his research -- there's a lot of it on computers all over the massive interplanetary network.

He can't remember much of what he's supposed to have accomplished (barely anything, actually).  Before the mission he was an up and coming Xenobiologist, some had even called him a prodigy.  And now, he was a amnesia victim.

Hammer mumbles on his way to the meeting."Well, compared to being chopped up by virus bots, I'm doing better.  But this CRS syndrome is getting old..."

** CRS syndrome = 'can't remember sh*t' syndrome
