Re: Face of a New Enemy Part 2

OOC: For new players, when you see the ellipsis "..." that usually means I'm rolling in the background.

You begin to sneak in between patrols...

Bartja...sneaks across without being seen.

Desi...sneaks across without being seen.

Gregor...sneaks across without being seen.

M'Kix...seems to get caught in the crossfire of the security camera. He dives for cover. The security camera swivels...but then seems to catch activity in the forest to the east and moves away. Apparently, it is used to some movement and disregards M'Kix.

Orvo...moves as fast as his dralasite body can take him, which is not terribly fast, but then realizes his error because the two patrolling security robots appear to have sped up to get around the building to investigate seeing M'kix. They seem to swivel towards Orvo's movement.

Vadim...behind Orvo but easily makes it across without being seen.

The robots are now actively searching the area as shown on the map.

The drone is nowhere in sight.

Appleburg gets his bearings on where you are at and tells you where to find the trap door going down to the underground complex where the research and prison facilities are located.

Here is a map with locations:
NOTE: You can see two doors to the west of the robots on the map. These are glass doors, completely transparent.

You do not hear any alarms or anything yet. Your assumption is that they are on high alert seeking to investigate what was caught on the security camera and Orvo's movement.

Bartja notices Vadim fumbling with the trap door lock and waits to see if he's going to have any success.  He also tosses his head to indicate that someone should probably cover the door on the west side of the room, just in case they get an unexpected visitor.

Re: Face of a New Enemy Part 2

Vadim does not unlock the door going north (security lock lv 3). It is also clear glass and you can see the robots through it, though you have not been noticed.

Bartja also brought Shemp the robot, which is wherever he wanted it to be.

The two robots are not currently moving. They are standing in the area notated and are scanning the area, possibly with heat, motion and regular sensors. They are heavily armed but it is hard to tell with what exactly due to the fact that they are of Sathar make. Their armor is heavy as well, making them likely fairly fearsome opponents.

You still do not see the drone anywhere in sight.

Bartja nods and motions to Shemp to unpack the spider-bot.  He then takes a moment to set it where it has clear access through the doorway and a few moments more to setup its mission.  Then when it's activated and ready, he sends it out the doorway.

Re: Face of a New Enemy Part 2

Bartja starts getting the robot ready.

Meanwhile, the combat robots are searching from northeast to southeast and then south...not turning in your direction.

The robot goes out and turns right. It draws the attention of the robots...but only one of them chases after it.

The other robot stays in position but turns to look to the north. (Note you are considered southwest of the robots.)

The first combat robot disappears out of view to the south going after the spider robot. Bartja's plan was 50% successful.

"Well, it's one of their bots so when that security drone catches it, there shouldn't be too much review of what it is.  It might draw some attention as to where it came from...

I doubt those heavy bots are allowed inside.  If we can get downstairs without them noticing us now, we shouldn't have to worry too much about them until we come back out."

Re: Face of a New Enemy Part 2

Orvo successfully unlocks the door to the northern room. You can see the hatch to the underground area in the northwest area. It is a metal hatch that pops up (and will have a ladder leading down.) It appears to be locked with an archaic padlock but you don't have the key.

You can cross behind cover (behind the table and chairs) to try to stay out of sight of the robot outside. The lock could be broken but may result in noise if you don't have bolt cutters or something similar. It could be picked if anyone has such a skill. A key might possibly be somewhere but would take time searching.

The outside robot is standing guard like a sentry by the security camera.

You still do not see the drone anywhere.

The second security robot has moved out of sight going after the spider robot decoy. It is still functional, so Bartja's commands may have worked to preserve it. Its video feedback shows forest.

Shemp begins moving toward Bartja. However, there is a 75% chance he will be spotted if he crosses from the ship to the room where you sit huddling.

Bartja does not detect any additional security systems.

Re: Face of a New Enemy Part 2

Bartja quietly taps his Titanium cranium as he watches Shemp moving through the link, then realizes it's still too risky.  He commands the little bot to hold it's position.

Speaking very quietly to the gathered group, he shares his observations.

"The padlock is on the top of the hatch.  If there are prisoners down there, the Sathar are not with them.  Someone from up here locked the hatch.  We need to find those guys first, then go down and see if we can't effect a rescue.

If we bum-rush that lone robot, we might have a chance of taking it out before the other heavy can return.  We're sure to put them on alert and bring every security measure they have down on us if we can't neutralize it very quickly."

While talking, Bartja has been fidgeting with some discomfort at his belt.  He finally moves the obstruction and then looks up slowly.

"I have this EMP Grenade...."

Bartja nods accession and pulls an EMP grenade from his belt.  He sets the timer to 0 and prepares to toss the device through the door once it is opened, hoping to drop it at the feet of the Heavy robot where it should take out the bot and perhaps the security camera at the same moment....

Bartja moves back to the doorway that is open behind you, bides his time for a moment, and then tosses the EMP toward the robot...

...the throw appears successful. The lights on the robot go off, and it drops its arms limply. Similarly, the light on the security camera goes out. You are not sure how long it will take for backup power to restore either of them, but you do know this will not be permanent, and loss of contact with the robot and camera may alert someone that there is a problem, although they might assume it is something technical.

After all, other than the primitive bird people and their own prisoners and the Darkness Qantariate, the Sathar aren't away of any intelligent life nearby and are not likely on a high alert. Then again, who knows what they are thinking after they shot down a UPF ship just a couple days earlier.

Bartja signals Shemp to move in with the Toolkits and takes a Techkit from the little android.  He quickly moves out to the Security Robot and with tools at hand, looks to Deactivate it permanenty.  He glances for a moment at the Security Camera to ensure it is off while he begins working over the robot.

"We might take a few minutes to reset this robots mission to work on our behalf if we end up having to fight our way out of here.  For now, Vadim is right.  I'll try to deactivate it so it doesn't reboot and come looking for us.  While this stuff is down, I'm going to try and disable the video feed from this camera as well.  They're sure to come out to see what the problem is so I'll try to make it not too easy to reset."
