Surprised and still holding her toy of late Inta shoots him in the face with the crete.
(If he still gets to her she will beat him with her stun baton.

Re: Log 2-22

Inta makes a shot directly into the creature's face, and Desiraye's stunstick knocks the creature down.  It is twitching on the ground.

Lerku examines the creature with the bioscanner.

RULES POST
Bioscanner--This device consists of a network of straps and electrodes connected to a readout gauge. When attached to a plant or animal, living or dead, it can determine what type organism is being examined and whether it is edible or poisonous.

The bioscanner shows him that it is an edible mammal of unclassified origin and species.

(You can safely assume that this is one of the Eorna, but something about the ones in this room just doesn't seem right.)

Re: Log 2-22

His suspicions confirmed, and gladly so, Bartja leans over the bioscanner to look at the readouts.  "Damn I'm hungry!  It's edible!  When do we eat?"

Now wishing he'd taken a stunstick or electrostunner instead of the machete, he looks into the room of other strange Eorna.  "I don't see Jameson here.  Are these wacky guards or unstable specimen of the species kept here for the safety of their main colony?"  It's a question he doesn't really expect an answer to.

"We should get the crete off its face so it doesn't suffocate. Maybe it speaks common?" Inta looks curiously at the creature.

Desiraye secures her stunstick and kneels down next to the unconscious creature.  "secure the ones that tried to attack us and scan the rest of them.  I don't think we need to eat them Bartja!"

Re: Log 2-22

Currently, the creatures are all unconscious, trapped in the tangler grenade, or apparently in some sort of catatonic state.

This room is filled with cots and beds suitable for the Eorna, which sleep standing up, leaning at a comfortable angle (since it would be impossible for them to sleep on their backs due to their tails).  The walls of this room have the same porous texture as the walls of the previous room.

There is a door on the east wall in addition to the one on the west that you blew up.

The creatures do not seem willing or able to talk (even those that are conscious).  Two of the three that initially attacked you are struggling against the tangler grenade and are drooling at the mouth.  The only thing that comes to your mind is that they are all quite insane in some sense or the other--depressive, paranoid, or catatonic.

Re: Log 2-22

Bartja opens his medkit while the crazed Eorna are still safely tangled in the threads of the grenade.  While removing a hypo filled with Telol, he suggests "we could program the Polyvox' to learn their language while we're in here.  Then, if and when we meet more of the race, we'll be able to communicate!"

Bartja begins injecting the crazed creatures with Telol - not to make them talk but for the drugs side effect of causing them to fall asleep ... eventually.  "My guess is that they put their insane here as guardians.  Why risk your healthy population when the crazies are more than willing to kill intruders?  They don't seem to be a predominent race on the planet any longer and I betting they didn't want to risk losing more of their healthy gene pool to guard against intrusion."

(Sorry, this is the only picture I could find of an eorna.)

The creatures are babbling, and the Telol makes those awake babble even more.  You get a good sample of their language, but they all fall unconscious.

Re: Log 2-22

Your bioscans and observations give you the following information:

The Eorna are a race of intelligent creatures descended from bipedal Volturnian dinosaurs. Most Eorna stand about 3 meters tall. The thick hide of the reptile has been replaced with a coat of fur that serves as insulation in cold temperatures. They have a rather large tail which is used for balance in walking. Their smaller forelimbs have developed hands that are somewhat human in appearance and function. Their vocal sounds are very different from those made by Humans due to the different structure of the Eorna palate.

Eorna are warm-blooded omnivores who evolved to build an advanced technological civilization. The Eorna are natural hypnotists. Their technology stresses mental control, often reinforcing the natural abilities of the Eorna.

Re: Log 2-22

Not finding anything of much interest in the "rubber room" of the Eorna, the party moves east, into what appears to be the common area for those with mental problems.

This room is very large (40 meters by 40 meters), and is filled with a variety of structures made from both metals and crystals.  There are also some pieces of furniture similar to those in the previous room.  The walls are made of the same porous tile you have seen throughout this level.

The items appear to be chairs and tables appropriate for the Eorna.  On one wall is what appears to be a holovision projector, and a radio on another wall.  On a third wall is a machine of some sort that looks like it will provide drugs and some sort of hypnotic treatment.

There is an exit to the east.

As they cross the room towards the exit to the east, Bartja comments further "I think we've found our way into their hospital facilities, or what's left of them.  With that group of unstable individuals guarding the way, my guess is the healthy ones don't get out much - if there are any healthy ones left of this race."

"Survival of the fittest Bartja.  Seems like a shitty thing to do to have your mentally unstable guarding your entry points but honestly, who better to guard them than someone crazy enough to do just that," Desiraye says looking around the room with her laser rifle at low ready.

Frisky says, "My guess is that we're past the security already.  I don't think these guys were guarding anything.  I think just no one expected anyone to get this far.  And that deadly air room back there was maybe a trap set by the insane ones.  It doesn't jive with the less-than-deadly traps we've encountered from these aliens thus far, especially after they went to the trouble to heal Becka, Lerku and I."

He thinks for a second.  "I'd even hazard a guess that maybe because these aliens deal so much in mental and neurological processes that maybe they are prone to these disorders like diseases."

Dulob says, "Well, let's keep moving and maybe we can ask them ourselves.  I'm seeing that we have come from an older, less used area that seems abandoned to an area that has them in it.  Maybe they just throw all their old experiments out up there by the old ruined entrance.  Since there's no sign of it being used in a long time, I expect we're coming in the back door and may be a big surprise when we barge in."

Becka considered Fr'ssky's word a long moment before nodding in agreement.  "That seems quite possible, given what we know... unless they healed us for some other intention."  She shivered as she shared that idea.  "For now let's hope I am wrong.  As Dulob said, we may yet have the chance to find out for ourselves."

Desiraye lets the laser rifle hang from its sling as she moves off her resting spot on the wall.  she loks down to check her latest wound out to see howbad it is.  She definitely feels much weeker than whenthe day started out and hopes they have time to rest soon.  "Let's get this over with,"she says and sets out again with the others.
