Re: Bugs in the System 1-3

As he waits in the shuttle while the others explore, Yagrith writes down the info from the computer and tucks it in his pocket, particularly the security codes noted and the listing of the various robots. "Might need this info later," he growls.

Then turning to Ospra and the others in the shuttle, he nods his agreement: "Yep, looks like we've all got to go out there and brave the elements to get to the bottom of this. So let's go."

He makes a last check of his chillsuit, gathers his equipment, and gets ready to join the others in the airlock at A1.

"We're going to have to cross this hole to get further in of course and we're going have to do a hands and eyes on inspection of this place since we're getting false readings from the computer," Desiraye says as she tries to open the container.

"Wasn't there a crete sprayer in our gear?" Replies the doctor to S'Krillk.

The professor is still waiting in the shuttle.

"I think we had one back one we left Volturnus.  It should've been in our gear when we left the ship Kri'lik."

S'Krllk responds, "Oh! I was thinking out loud. It occurred to me that a crete sprayer could be used to create a walkway over the broken flooring. I know we need to repair the piping, but I think it would be better if we made sure the cause of this destruction did not originate inside the facility before we proceed to do that."

Re: Bugs in the System 1-3

You inspect the cables, and it could sustain your weight in doing a balancing act.

OOC to Parson: You mentioned testing the cables.  I'm not sure what you mean.  Can you be more specific?  I have included eyeing them only.

Desiraye inspects the locker; it contains: four chillsuits and four breathing masks (one of each for each race), four belt powerpacks and four oxygen tanks for the masks.

OOC: I like the crete sprayer idea.  Just one problem (see bolded):

rules:
Crete Sprayer: The crete spayer is a 1-meter-long tank tapering to a hose on the bottom that leads to a spayer gun. The user, with the tank carried or strapped on his back, can spray a sheet of crete from his device over whatever he wishes. Crete is a superfast drying (two turns) form of concrete that is incredibly strong even in a thin layer. In this fashion an explorer can weave a canopy of vines or make a lean-to from skins, spray it, and have a shelter that resists most environmental conditions. Crete is thermally insulated and is comfortable to far below zero degees and above one hundred degrees Celsius. One canister has enough crete to cover a 300-square-meter area. Create is considered hardcover and has 60 structural points. The range of the crete spray from the nozzle is only 60 centimeters, so it cannot be used effectively as a weapon.

Using the crete sprayer, you'd have to create a bridge between two supporting structures (like the two cables) and proceed at only 60 centimeters per two turns as it dries; but it would be somewhat unstable, given that it doesn't have anything forming the front of the frame or any intersperstices woven by something.

In other words, for the crete sprayer to really work properly, it should be sprayed directly on top of some other object, or closely woven together objects--not over thin air.  Then it turns something fragile and airy into something hard, solid, and insulating.

Re: Bugs in the System 1-3

Feeling somewhat useful, the good doctor grabs the crete sprayer and the graple gun and heads out of the shuttle to give the items to Desi if she needs them. Before leaving the shuttle however he will set his chillsuit to 2 SEU/hour and done his breathing mask. Once out of the shuttle he takes another reading of the atmosphere with his CAS to get some accurate readings of the air and temperature.

Re: Bugs in the System 1-3

S'Krllk gives Ospra the vrusk equivalent of a smile, and says, "It occurred to me we would need to carry things over the gap, this would make for quite a bit of leaping back and forth. With the crete sprayer, we could use some cords and debris to create a framework and then solidify into a walkway for use on the way out."
As he speaks, he approaches the gap, judges it, and makes what is, for a vrusk, a rather obscure but definitely xenophobic statement, "Besides, I'm more of an ant than a grasshopper."

Ospra lands safely on the far side while everyone talks.  Her long legs make the leap quite easy for her.

OOC: Instead of carrying back and forth, you could throw things.  9 feet really isn't that far.  Also, you could tie up your bundles.

Ospra pulls out a wound up cord.  "I have this rope you can use to tie people to in crossing the gap.  Or to equipment.  I will scout ahead and see if there's something to use for the crete sprayer."

She heads off down the hall to see what can be found.

Parson looks to the others, "I'd rather we not use up all the crete spray as we may need it to seal the piping to refuel our shuttle.  No garrantees that this place has any spare cannisters lying around.  I'm going to test my luck to thecabling here.  After all, do you really wanna live forever?"

Parson begins to work his way across the span of cabling, holding to one cable while carefully placing his feet on another.

OOC: Sorry for my vagueness earlier.  I meant merely that Parson was giving the cables some tugs to see if they were weight-bearing.

Re: Bugs in the System 1-3

Apparently, the insulation on the cables is damaged.  As soon as Parson touches one, an electric shock goes through his body, and he flops to the ground for a moment.  (4 dmg).  He rises, knowing it could have been much worse.  What a good time it would have been to have a gauss screen on.

Re: Bugs in the System 1-3

OOC: There's been talk about repairing the fuel line piping.  If you take a look at the map, your technician-like intuition (for those who have it) reminds you that the two ends of Jetsom are identical, with two separate shuttle docks.  Assuming the other fuel lines on the other side of the ship are still in good repair with solid piping...well, I'll let you take it from there.

Yagrith sets his chill suit to 2, then heads out to the edge of the gap with the others.

"Looks like we're jumping," he grimaces, noticing Parson's failed attempt on the cables. "I'm not much of a leaper. Perhaps the more athletic among us could jump across and secure a rope to something on the other side, and then the rest of us can make the leap with a rope tied around us to make sure we don't fall?"

Not being the most athletic type, Yagrith will wait for Osprah to secure the rope to something, then will tie the other end around his waist before he makes a flying leap over the gap.

Dr. Kri'lik walks over to the rest of the group on the shuttle side of the destroyed passageway. Holding up the crete sprayer and grappling gun which he retrieved from the shuttle. "Anyone want these?"

If no one wants the items he will toss them over to the other side for quick retrieval at a later time. He also checks his atmospheric scanner again for temp and air quality. (I want to know what setting for the chill suit is best boss!) :)

Re: Bugs in the System 1-3

Eyeing the grappling gun for the first time, Parson pauses before taking the leap.

"Now that could make things a lot easier.  If it reaches, we could each swing over and toss the line back to the next guy to cross."

OOC:  Does the grappling gun look like it has cable reach to help each of the party swing over?
