"From the looks of that temp reading, we should all put our chillsuits on the max setting of 4 SEU per hour. And even then we'll likely take a little cold damage. And put on your breathing masks before opening that hatch!"

As Desi adjusts her insuit to 4/SEU to match the cold that they're going to face in the other room, "Doc, you're on stanby in case we get into trouble.  Me & Yag are getting ready to go in!"

Re: Bugs In The System 1-6

Ospra, Yag, and Desiraye head toward F area.  Yag attaches the rope to the door by the airlock.  Next on the rope is Ospra, and Des takes the front.  Everyone sets chillsuits to SEU 4, puts on oxygen masks, and then opens the airlock door to F2.

This room is open to the atmosphere and violent winds of Venturi, since its walls have been cut away by the platform's external maintenance robot. The lighting panels have been destroyed and the only illumination is the dim light of the star Belnafaer.

The external maintenance robot has short, magnetic legs and a streamlined body to enable it to withstand Venturi's powerful winds.  It is magnetically attached to the wall near the ruined area in the northeast.  The robot has a 2-meter-long
horizontal, cylindrical body that tapers to a point at both ends. Its legs give it a firm grip to withstand the wind, and its limbs and sensors (video and infra-red) can be pulled in to lie flush with its body.  A powertorch is attached to its body, a powerful laser cutter.  The robot is currently cutting out portions of the wall leading to the outside.

Immediately upon opening the airlock, the power of the winds of Venturi hit you.  The winds are extremely powerful, and you are injured by the wind buffeting you and banging around against the walls.  (Des: 6 dmg; Ospra: 2 dmg; Yag: 9 dmg)  You each also take 2 dmg from the extreme cold.

Luckily, you all manage to stay on your feet.  However, the extreme wind has acted like a vacuum pulling you out of the airlock and into the room, Desi out front.

The maintenance robot begins moving along the wall toward you like a spider toward its stuck prey.

It looks like anything of value in this room has been sucked out of the giant hole carved into the northeast corner of the room (see map).

Looking at the map, Desi has been pulled to the corner and can see the door to the left is open.  Ospra is at about the area where the "F2" is at.  Yag is at the first corner.

To make it back to the airlock against the winds, here is what we'll do:
Each round you must make a 1/2 STR check to pull yourself up the rope.
Each round you must make a DEX check to avoid being swept off your feet and losing all the ground you've gained.
You can combine strength.
Success means moving toward the airlock 1 square.
The robot is moving 1 square per round toward you.

(If you want to do anything more creative, we'll consider that too.)

(If any of you have skeinsuit or inertia screen on, let me know because the damage is halved, but I don't think any of you do.)

On a separate note, the rest of the ship is beginning to get even hotter after the setting of temperature was put to 40 degrees.

Yag also tries to pull himself back to the airlock. "Pull together, everyone!" he growls. He doesn't like the look of that maintenance robot moving toward them.

[I'll leave it to the GM to make my roll, or our roll if we can combine strength and all pull together.]

ROUND 2

Kri'lik won't be able to do anything to open the airlock door without depressurizing the rest of the station.

Desi: 3 squares from airlock
Ospra: 2 squares from airlock
Yag: 1 square from airlock

Desi and Ospra combine strength.  Desi makes it up to Ospra's position.  Yag and Ospra do not make it any further forward.

Desi: 2 squares from airlock
Ospra: 2 squares from airlock
Yag: 1 square from airlock

The robot moves closer.

Robot: 3 squares away

Meanwhile, the extreme cold continues to hurt even through the fully charged chillsuits.  (2 STA dmg each)

OOC:  I will also add a +10 bonus for the DEX checks since you are all tied together.  If you become untied, the bonus will not apply.

You manage to hold your ground this round, despite the buffetting winds.

Re: Bugs In The System 1-6

Just to be clear:

Your combined 1/2 strength is 87.

When you combine strength to pull.  The last person is pulled first.  So Desi was pulled last round.

This round, Desi and Ospra are together, so they would be pulled together to Yag.  Then, next round, all three of you would try to pull to the airlock.

However, the rolls were not in your best interest this turn...

ROUND 3

You combine your strengths, but the wind is too strong and you are unable to pull any closer to Yag.

Desi, luckily, does not lose her ground.  (As Yag and Ospra had not gained any ground, they do not lose ground even though they missed their DEX checks.  Only a critical miss at that point would cause a problem.)

Desi: 2 squares from airlock
Ospra: 2 squares from airlock
Yag: 1 square from airlock

The robot moves closer.

Robot: 2 squares away

The robot is extending an industrial strength set of shears and some sort of what looks like a laser torch.

Meanwhile, the extreme cold continues to hurt even through the fully charged chillsuits.  (2 STA dmg each)

(You will continue to suffer 2 STA each round.)

If you choose to stop pulling up the rope and to attack instead, you will lose your bonuses to hold your ground and suffer a -10% penalty to attacks.

For one not very good with a rifle, Kri'lik frantically watches through the airlock window wishing he could be in there to help the others.

Just to be clear it is currently impossible for me to open the door correct?

Re: Bugs In The System 1-6

You could override the system with a tech check but that would flood the room you're in with depressurization and lack of oxygen--everything up until the next set of airlock doors.

He could also go around the entire complex and open the door on the west side around the bend, but that would take some time to do.

Sorry, didn't mean to make people sit on the sidelines.

In reply to GM Heath (msg #211):

"The robot is extending an industrial strength set of shears and some sort of what looks like a laser torch"

Desi watches as they've slowed their own progress down and the robot starts to extend somethings that looks like it will hurt very badly if it is able to get them close enough to them.  She looks up to Ospra, "Keep pulling with Yag.  This thing is getting way too close for comfort and it wants to kill us like every other robot has!

Desiraye draws out her laser pistol and clicks the setting to [5] SEU and takes aim at the robot and fires a shit at it.

Re: Bugs In The System 1-6

ROUND 4

Ospra and Yag combine strength while Desi goes for her gun.  Unfortunately, the weight is too much for just the two of them, and they gain no ground.

Desi fires, hitting and damaging the robot.  However, it continues its relentless march forward.  You imagine for a second what would happen if you were blown out toward the planet to slowly freeze as you orbit without atmosphere, or what would happen if your suit were punctured and you began depressurizing with eyes bulging.

Desi: 2 squares from airlock
Ospra: 2 squares from airlock
Yag: 1 square from airlock

The robot moves closer.

Robot: 1 square away

The robot will be within reach of you next round.  It is closest to Yag right now, or to Desi and Ospra if they succeed in their strength checks next round and advance a square (i.e., right in its path).

Meanwhile, the extreme cold continues to hurt even through the fully charged chillsuits.  (2 STA dmg each)

Kri'lik calls for S'Krllk over the comms "We have trouble, could use your help." The professor then starts to make his way to the other side of the damaged section. Thinking perhaps something from that as of yet unexplored section might be of help.

No worries on being in the sidelines boss, and I was already thinking of going around, which I will start doing.

Re: Bugs In The System 1-6

Seeing that the robot is almost on him, and vividly imagining the horrible death he will face if the thing punctures his suit, Yag yells "Kill it!"

He pulls his gyropistol and squeezes off three rounds, muttering to himself, "All those years of robot training, and now one might be the death of me. Arrgh!"

08:59, Today: Yagrith rolled 18 using 4d10. Dmg -- 2 shots hit (I think).
08:57, Today: Yagrith rolled 126 using 3d100 with rolls of 81,36,9. 3 shots at robot.

Seeing her first shot hit the robot and not slowing it down, Desi fires two [2] more rounds at the robot in hopes of stopping it or being pulled out of the room to some degree of safety.
