Bugs in the System 1-8

On arrival back at Snobol on day 114, you are greeted over the shuttle foyer intercom (S5) by the excited but very relieved voice of Captain Akizk. He congratulates you on your survival and asks you to come to his office (M5a) to report to himself, Baralou and Ellen Coopermann.

You are on the shuttle, relieved to finally be off that accursed station, Jetsom.

You will recall that Moneyspider is their ship, attached to the moon Snobol.

"Thank you Captain.  We'll be at your office once we're cler of the shuttle."

SHe turns to the rest of the crew, "Well done everyone!  It's good to have some new blood amongst us but, let's not forget the fallen!"

"Hopefully, we can get cleaned up, get some rest, get our rewards, and then get back to some sort of civilization.  You new folks up for working together?"

Re: Bugs in the System 1-8

You exit the shuttle and go get to the elevator that will take you to the captain's suite.

When you arrive at the suite (M5), Ellen Coopermann, a human female and chief engineer who is second in command, hurries out, as if in a panic.  "The captain is dead!" she says.  "He killed himself.  I need to alert Baralou.  Stay here.  We'll need to gather everyone for a meeting."

She rushes off, leaving you alone just outside the captain's suite.

Desiraye stands in the Captain's office in disbelief when Ellen runs out of the room.  "You've got to be kidding me right?  Two of you go with her in case there is a murderer onboard here please!"

Re: Bugs in the System 1-8

Sergi follows Ellen (the engineer who just left).

The rest of you enter the cabin.  His terminal (Term2) is lit up with the words:

Akizk's computer:
There can be no life without honor and loyalty to
the company. The outsiders are returning from
Jetsom and everything will be revealed. There is
but one thing to do.
- Akizk

There is a strange smell in the air, and the Vrusk captain lies dead at your feet from an apparent gunshot wound from a laser pistol.  The captain's own laser pistol is still in his hand.

Kri'lik confirms that the captain was indeed killed from the blast of the laser pistol, and he discovers a trace of graphite lubricant on the laser pistol.

Fingering the graphite substance on the pistol, Yag mutters "The Human! Cooperman! We've gotta go after her and find out if she has traces of this stuff on her."

He jumps to his feet and  runs in the direction she'd just headed, hoping to catch her. If he catches up he'll be non-accusatory at first, saying he just wants to chat with her to understand what she saw.

Re: Bugs in the System 1-8

You are not sure which direction Ellen went.  She went on the elevator.  It was too conspicuous for Sergi to follow her in the elevator, so he returned back to you.

After you discover the information and body in the captains office (M5a), you hear Ellen's voice over the intercom system.  "We are holding an emergency meeting in the common room.  I have just discovered that the captain has killed himself.  Everyone please gather at the common room immediately."

(The common room is M25.)

Desiraye turns towards Yag when she hears that Cooperman had traces on her.  "You smell it too Yag?  Wait!  Traces of what on her hands?  I'm picking up the smell of a doze grenade that went off in here.  If the Captain killed himself, why is there trace of a sleeper (doze) grenade in the room?  Something ain't right here.

Secure the laser pistol the Captain shot himself with and stay frosty now.  We've got to make sure this Cooperman isn't trying to lead us into an ambush."

Re: Bugs in the System 1-8

"No, I was wrong, looks like a clearcut case of suicide. Wait a minute, what's this video feature here on the computer?" Yag says loudly and with a furry wink, pointing to the intercom.

The, in a whisper to his teammates, he says "She may be listening over the intercom. Yeah, something is fishy around here. And that meeting in the conference room may be a trap. I think a couple of us should stay out of there, just in case. Maybe we can come up with an excuse?

How about this: I'll stay here along with someone else. We'll say that I've discovered that the Captain's computer had a videocamera feature added in, and that we may be able to get video of what happened so that we can understand why he killed himself. If she panics and starts heading down here she may give herself away."

The normally quiet Yag is pretty proud of himself for coming up with this plan.

Desiraye gives Kri'lik a little smirk as she begins to walk out of the Captain's room, "Well Doc, I don't think there's too much you can do for the Captain here, he's pretty much dead.  You can come with me.  I can always use an extra body."

Re: Bugs in the System 1-8

Ellen convenes the meeting in the common room.  She asks where the other two party members are.  When you tell her Yag found a video to check, she raises an eyebrow in surprise and nods.  "Good idea."

Then she addresses everyone in the meeting.  "The captain has killed himself.  As second in command, I have taken command of the ship.  Our first order of priority is securing the ship's mission, which means we need to know about what happened down on Jetsom so we can immediately decide what to do next."

She looks to you for an explanation and debriefing.
