The "Blackness" was encountered in the adventure of the same name. In it, when hit by the Blackness, it feels like acid and does similar damage, leaving a black scar in the injured victim. (Desi was hit by one (see post 32 from last thread in that adventure.)
The Qantariate creatures were either invisible or completely black depending on how they were encountered.
You found weapons on the Frigate Pegasus which were as follows:
XT-41 Xenometric Accelerator (looks like a high tech RPG launcher)
X-09 Bauble (a pistol with a large round nozzle)
XP-12 Portable Singularity (3 black grenade-looking devices)
XTR-3 Turret Sync System (a 3 foot high turret)
XR-34 Turret Antimatter Control (3 foot high turret)
XX-01 Turret Density Control (5 foot high turret that looks like giant, old fashioned camera)
XM-92 Rifle Exometer (rifle)
X-9 Shield generation flux (looks like a kevlar vest with high tech installed)
TURRETS: Each turret has a remote control. It can be set to automatic scan (oscillation looking for motion), and can be set to identify and disregard certain targets (such as you), and it can be set to manual fire mode where you push a button to make it fire.
The other weapons and devices, though interesting, all have labels on them that say, "DO NOT USE. IN DEVELOPMENT."
OOC: Experimental weapons and devices mean there is a chance of failure that will render the device unoperational, and a critical miss is equivalent to what you might call a backfire.
The percentage of failure is decreased by 10% x Engineering level, 5% x Weapons level (for type of weapon), or as otherwise deemed applicable. You only take the highest bonus.
The XP12 and XP34 seemed to injured or destroyed the Blackness but were highly dangerous--opening a mini black hole and antimatter area respectively.
Your group took the XM-92 (Desi), XR-34 (S'krllk), X-9 (Kri'lik--now dead and in Orvo's possession), X-41 (Hammer) and 3 XP-12 grenades (Hammer)
