I won yesterday, against a favorite gladiator from a rival ludus. He was nearing winning his 50th match and, very likely, the rudus and his freedom. I beat him, the crwod called for mercy but the editor denied it, so I killed him. Not sure who you bet on, but that's what I did yesterday.

Nope. Lucius is a straight forward lannista - pimp for gladiators. He's, as far as I've thought about it, fairly straight forward. He's running a business. He's never going to be a member of the upper class, and that's fine as far as he's concerned. He can make a comfortable living and have a nice villa, he doesn't want or need a seat in the Senate.

And I could be his brother, flush with a little spoils and thankful to be away from the dust and heat of a legion
