1625 January: Le Mercure françois #10

NEWS FROM PARIS
Colonel Beau Geste was noted for his conspicuous consumption. Lieutenant-Colonel Pierre Dragos' application to join Abbé d'Aubignac's salon was turned down, as the salon only accepts priests as members.

Minister of State le Comte Yves d'Ardouin issued orders for the Minister of War le Vicomte Yves de Bocuse to commit the following forces the upcoming summer campaign:
  • Dragoon Brigade
  • 1st Foot Brigade
  • 2nd Foot Brigade
  • 4th Foot Brigade
  • Frontier Regiments
  • RNHB Regiment

Among the volunteers for the front this month we noticed:
Lieutenant-Colonel Renné Gade of the 27th Aquitaine Musketeers, sent to lead the 2nd Frontier Regiment in Burgundy.
Major Franz Mueller of Princess Louisa's Light Dragoons. They were assigned to the 3rd Frontier Regiment, part of the 3rd Frontier Brigade.
Major Luc d'Aoun of the Crown Prince Cuirassiers. They wew sent to the 4th Frontier Regiment in Languedoc.
Subaltern Maurice Delacroix of the Queen's Own Carabiniers, assigned to the 4th Frontier Regiement in Languedoc.

Week 1
Grand Duke Max’s Dragoons had a new Regimental Chaplain installed: Padre Auguste de L'Espere from Aquitaine.
Col. Geste attended church at the Cathedral de Notre-Dame with his influential mistress Andrée Grosjean, donating conspicuously for the both of them. Attending was also Lt-Col. Dragos with his beautiful (and wealthy!) Marion Robiquet. Col. Geste and Lt-Col. Dragos ended up quarreling and exchanging insults.

Week 2
Padre de L'Espere held his first sermon at the Army Chapel.
Col. Geste caroused at Scudery's.
Lt-Col. Dragos attended the Military Academy.

Week 3
Padre de L'Espere was seen practicing the sabre with the troops at the Grand Duke Max’s Dragoons barracks.
Col. Geste continued his carousing at Scudery's.
Lt-Col. Dragos practiced the rapier at the barracks of the 13th Burgundy Fusileers.

Week 4
Padre de L'Espere attended church at the Cathedral de Notre-Dame, donating conspicuously.
For the third week in a row, Col. Geste caroused at Scudery's. This week he also gambled. "Like a maniac to whom money doesn't matter!", we heard people comment.
Lt-Col. Dragos again attended the Military Academy.
