Heading for Gnost

(I figured it was time to start a new in-character thread here.

Let's start by putting any reaction posts to starting out...

Heck, I'll start.)

Kalsk watched the barren landscape roll by beneath them. Could his new allies really find a way to cure him? He was used to the parasite, and it'd saved his life sometimes, but he wanted to be under his own control. He knew it affected his mind and his personality, in ways he was both aware of and not fully aware of. But the parasite couldn't keep him alive forever, protect from old age... and he wanted to live as much of his life as he could as himself--

--Wait, could the parasite keep him young? Who said it couldn't?

...Or was that thought put in his head by the parasite?

That was the problem. Kalsk never knew for certain.

Maybe he could sell the parasite (minus the price of safely removing it) to someone who'd want to be the host of it, in Gnost...?

Vult watched the barren landscape roll by beneath them. He was excited about showing off his humans to everyone in Gnost. Wouldn't the old-timers be shocked and horrified to learn that the ancient lifeforms whose culture young shifters admired so still existed today! And that he, Vult, had found them! Well, discovered? Yeah, that's it, he'd discovered them! And they'd help Kalsk, too, maybe, if it was possible!

Dulcinea sensed the barren landscape roll by beneath them. Nice not to have to flow on her own anymore. Been a while since she'd been a passenger on a mechanical conveyance. She kept a watchful awareness over Sweetie at all times, of course, but he seemed sufficiently fed and happy...

The Duke had little interest in traveling in that big nasty robot of Alyn. He prefered the hover car that had that nice plug in spot for his cooler and the soft leather backseat he could doze off in so nicely after checking on the coolers contents and taking some samples to make sure the taste was kept. He told the AI to follow the big ugly robot as he dreamed of licking and slurping on giant jello's The Lady really had blessed him by putting a living jello on his path that wanted to hug and ooze all over him. The Duke was dreaming of being smothered by the sweet lemmony taste of Dulcinea.

Alyn was like a little kid driving a bumper car at a carnival for the first time, up there in the main control room of the Alynwalker. He loved how high up he was, since it gave him a good physical view of the surroundings while he continued to get used to more of the Alynwalker's controls and functions, both psychic and physical.

The mind moths were quite enjoying the Alynwalker, albeit in a different way then Alyn was. Since they were white-listed, they were exempt from the electrical field trap and force barriers that were near the partially-broken head window area. So the moths figured out that they could roost there when they wanted to rest, as it gave them a spot that was conveniently protected against predators after they saw a few wayward birds jet zapped and sent flying away from the head area. but since it was outside and high up they could depart to take flight and feed or scout or otherwise do whatever it was mind moths liked to so when they weren't resting.

The psiwalker diligently followed after the Alynwalker. Once Alyn had a chance to get some more repairs done, he was going to see about adding a small docking bay for the psiwalker somewhere on the Doombot (like in one of its feet, or a groin thing, etc), for easier storage and transport. when he got to areas like a town or something where he couldn't taker the Alynwalker, or if they needed to scout a bit etc, he'd have the psiwalker as a backup.

He occasionally mentally "scanned" the area as well, keeping track of his party members as well as trying to detect any threats in the area that could try and sneak up on them. But otherwise, he enjoyed the opportunity to relax.

All seemed well to Ajakstu, more or less. It sounded like Gnost had traders, which meant money and opportunity.

He determined the crush radius for when Bossy inevitably crashed the Bossywalker and maneuvered the walker outside of that. Probably meant they were outside the collateral damage radius if anyone saw them coming and decided to shoot the largest target first.

Then he busied himself with thoughts of using his climbing gear to harpoon some sort of lumbering object and then circling around it, causing it to fall over in the snow.

After about half an hour, something notable comes into view up ahead... A large, round sort of stone tower, about five stories high, but three times the width of the AlynWalker. The tower has battlements around the top, and windows here and there spiraling occasionally up the side, as if

"What th'...? The Roboid tower? Here? But... it's not here! It should be farther south-- near the half-mountain? How did they move it?" says Dulcinea, confused.

Stranger than that, it appears that a battle is taking place-- strange, half-finished-looking robots are attacking... bird-hyena creatures, who're defending a large crashed aircraft. ("Large" as in, half as tall as the tower, but twice as wide and long.)

"Shriekmaws," reports Dulcinea. "Animalfolk. They're vicious in battle, but not always actually hostile if you don't start anything with them. Do we take sides in this, watch, or just keep going? I feel sort of sorry for the shriekmaws... On the other hand, I don't want Sweetie to get hurt..."

ooc: I decided the Duke hates robots after Vomol blew up in his face ;-)

There might be more roboids inside the tower, but The Duke, ah, deactivates almost half of the ones visible outside of it.

Vult notes that Pesky seems a bit in need of information. "Those things on the right are shriekmaws. Bird-jackal animal-people. They're super wild, but not horrible. More like the wildest, most dangerous gal you ever met, but with claws, and a whole tribe of... that. The other ones are roboids. They're boring. They don't think like humans at all-- they can only think of things in binaries: good/bad, dangerous/weak, valuable/worthless, us/not-us. So most of 'em are... I dunno... like, y'know... trouble."

He stood up in the cockpit, his eyes glowing as he looked outward onto the battlefield. Hw considered going for individual robots, but what if that tower started attacking them or something. Well fuck that!

"You guys go for the rabbits. I'm hunting bear." Alyn muttered. "Dulcinea? It's time for me to get religious on them!" he added.

Okay, so I bet you didn't see this coming. But Alyn is not going to go for an individual or group of robots, but instead he's goign to try and mentally hack the freaking robot-tower itself with his telepathy.

The stone tower is barely sentient at all. It has no weapons of its own, and limited sensors.

Alyn does pick up thinking from the roboids, though, though their thinking is very alien to him. LURGI, they think, LURGI. They were thinking it already, but then when they notice his mind, they start thinking it AT him. Like, the sense is LURGI, dude! LURGI! If it had a little more of an emotional component, it would be OMG, dude, LURGI! and/or maybe Oh no, LURGI!. Maybe just a little sense of Can you effing believe it: LURGI? Well it's true: LURGI!

Moreover, this word is being communicated with Alyn with a strong sense of

Alyn considered a moment.

The Stone Tower seemed...far less weaponized and sentient than he was expecting from something that was held by a bunch of Robots. However, it seemed very important to them none the less.

Even more curious was that the other robots minds were sensing his a bit as he reached out to the tower. Except it wasn't hostility. what was it then?

LURGI. Alyn thought back to the "networked" robots and tower, seeing if anything happened.

And then he remembered what Vult said, about how these robots thought in an entirely binary manner.

"Guys? I'm going to try something. It either will have no effect, or may stop the fighting. We'll see," Alyn said, as his eyes glowed a moment again...

Alyn then wondered if he could cause the Roboids to fall back somehow.

I am LURGI! Heed me = YES! he thought to them

Attack Shriekmaws = NO!

Fall back = YES!

The roboids fall back from attacking the shriekmaws...

One roboid makes it up to the missing windscreen of the AlynWalker, and, instead of climbing all the way in (which would set off an automatic defense, but the roboid seems to sense the danger) instead throws something at Alyn-- some sort of small gas grenade.

(Nope, forgot about the environmental protection, you're right.

Shakes fist at force field... but "only once per scene" is in fact fair, so I'm not mad or anything (except maybe at myself for forgetting how this worked).

So, belay that penalty for Alyn's next roll.)

Alyn does in fact find a roboid. It's been torn in half by The Duke, but the top part is still functional for now. I mean, not functional enough to hurt anyone, but the hard drive brain is still getting power for the moment...

(You will-- as I said-- have to roll for this. Whether it's Charming or Insightful or Scary/Weird depends on what you do/ask... The roboid might only have enough power left for you to do/ask one thing...)

Tower: stone? YES

Stone: suitable molecular composition for heavy-mass teleportation? YES

Teleportation experiments successful? YES

The robot shudders. One arm points to the crashed ship that the shriekmaws are using as a defensible nesting position.

LURGI detected? YES

CLOCK: ticking? YES

LURGI...

Alyn's voice suddenly telepathically resonated, gently but firmly, in the minds of all of the party members.

There is something important on that Shreikmaw ship. I don't know what it is, but the Roboids weren't just attacking it randomly. I saw that they were looking for something. The word "clock" keeps coming to mind, and odd...I recall the giant tree thing from a while ago also had psychic impressions about something that was important and a clock. But I'm unsure if it's a literal clock, or something else.

That stone tower itself wasn't dangerous to us, but the Robids are using its stony composition to help with teleportation experiments. But I think they warped in here to try and steal something from the Shreikmaws. I'm debating if we shouldn't try and take it for ourselves, since lately...I tend to find that the agendas of robots don't quite jive well with our more biological one.

Perhaps we can get the Shreikmaws to give it to us? I'd hate to fight them after having saved them.

Heading for Gnost

Ajakstu Gul:
Ajakstu politely offers mead and finger foods to Dulcinea. Also, to Rake.

He then inspects his hat with the sole express purpose of seeing if adding tin foil will keep the invasive stream of consciousness nattering at bay.

The shriekmaw leads The Duke through a door, deeper into the ship.

The door is too small for your vehicles. "Hey, Sweetie's going in-- we'd better follow!" Dulcinea disembarks from the vehicle she's in and rushes to follow.

After being led through the first door, which basically turns out to be like a sort of airlock, the shriekmaw gestures to a set of large and tough-looking metal double doors, 10 feet by 10 feet. A keypad with metal keys bearing symbols that The Duke doesn't recognize is over on the right-hand side of them.

The shriekmaw stands back to see if The Duke will try the keypad first, or if he'll just attack with brute force.

The Duke eyes the keypad and then shrugs and simply opens the door in the Dukiest way possible. The power gloves crackle with energy as he pummels into the metal door at their center to create enough place to get his grip in and tear the doors outward.

Alyn put the Alynwalker into a sort of security standby mode, and descended to the ground. He followed after the Duke, waiting to not only see what antics the crazed lug would cause next, but equally to see what it was that was so important that the bots wanted, and that the shreikmaws seemed more than happy to be rid of.

Welp, the doors are stubborn, but The Duke tears one of the double doors out of the doorway.

Seems like he woke something up, though.

Inside is a huge chamber filled with glass tubes, meant to hold roughly human-sized captives? Patients? Cryosleepers? You know this because many of them are filled with skeletons. There's also one person who looks like he might be restored to a living life if he were freed-- he's immobile, but looks healthy otherwise.

But those are along the sides, and the captive person is over to the right and near the back. Right in front of The Duke are two... well, horrible things. Like masses of writhing flesh, but made of jet-black plastic at the same time. Each is about 50% larger than The Duke, so... pretty large. They each have several vaguely-humanlike faces here and there-- well, in that there are often black eyes, and a mouth or two involved. There are also spiky tentacles, tendrils, whatever one wants to call them, they're long wavy things and they lash about wildly.

Once the door is fully out of the doorway, they crawl toward The Duke-- at first slowly, but then increasingly quickly. "Lurrgi," they groan. "Lurrrggggiiiii..."

...Oh no, thinks Alyn.

...Lurgi.

Alyn looks at them, and backs away a bit.

"I think those are the things that attracted the rboids. I'm not sure why, but they are important to them. which means we probably ought to take them out." he said.

"I think we may be able to get that Mechanicus-looking person out of Cryostasis, since he may also know something about the Roboids and be involved in all of this. I get the feeling the Shreikmaws don't know about him as they didn't know much about this room even, as I suspect this wasn't initially their ship." he said.

He then looked at them as his eyes flickered for a few seconds before fading.

"I'm going to see if I can't try communicating with them telepathically though, just in case." he said as his eyes flared again...

00:52, Today: Alyn Reed rolled 10 using 2d6+3 with rolls of 5,2.  charm.

So he is trying to establish telepathic contact with them. The 10 also is to help you determine the overall quality of the attempt too.

Lurgi... Lurrrgiiii...

Great, just like out loud, but now it's in his head.

But it's much worse this way. The lurgi are psychically grotesque, repulsive. Their voices are audibly just super creepy. In Alyn's mind, their thoughts are like radioactive moldy motor oil with teeth. Honestly, it's all his mental "shields" can do to keep them at bay, but he does.

But the contact does give him some insight.

--These are soulless things, programmed by being or beings unknown to exist and duplicate. They're like 25% biological, 75% synthetic, but a lot of their syntheticness is designed to mimic biology, so it feels more like a 49/51 split.

--They're basically evil, abominations to both organics and robots-- no wonder the roboids wanted to destroy them.

--They were taking these specimens gathered (almost all of which are dead, but they barely understand that) back to somewhere for processing and analysis when they crashed. And yes, that one person in the back is alive (as far as they understand it) and should be rescuable.

--Also they're totally about to attack The Duke and Alyn. Lurgi's main modes are Destroy/Kill and Corrupt (Gather Specimens is just sort of a byproduct of Corrupt). They're basically like a giant disease.

Alyn breaks the psychic link he has with them immediately - he learned what he needed to.

He then quickly, along the "Party Link" he has up with the other player characters and their menagerie troupe of allies, quickly sends out a warning.

These black monster things are the Lurgi, and they are irredeemably the bad guys! They are like a half-living disease! I'll tell you all more later. Oh, and they cannot be reasoned with, and will try to attack or corrupt us soon. So everyone, to arms! And Dukie? You have my blessing to Smash them to bits but please spare the captive in back as he is someone they abducted!

23:46, Today: Alyn Reed rolled 11 using 2d6+2 with rolls of 5,4.  Weird/Scary.

His eyes then Flared with power again, but this time it wasn't a curious probing flicker, but a constant, deep piercing light. Like back when he unleashed the psionic storm in the old military base. The air became statically charged as psychokinetic energy filled the air. The effect was so potent, that bits of nearby debris began to levitate into the air. Hopefully, if the Shreikmaws didn't get the hint that it was DANGEROUS in that chamber right now and that they needed to fall back, now they'd definitely get the point.

Then, lightning-like energy began to emanate and arc from both his hands, sometimes arcing from his blazing eyes. It began to grow larger, but then the energy began to go from the blue electrical hue to a more reddish plasma one as it surged with psychokinetic force, no longer being just electricity. It was some sort of high-end fusion between psychokinesis and Electrokinesis.

"Filthy monsters! You have gone unchecked for too long. Now, you learn what it really feels to go from being the monster, to the prey." Alyn said, eyes blazing in psionic glory, as streams and arcs of Tesla-rod style psychokinetic energy erupted from him and tore into the things' vile, dark synthetic flesh!

"Dukie! You can have what's left!"

The lurgi are torn apart, ripped and vaporized into shreds.

...But there was something inside.

Inside each lurgi now stands revealed... aw, that's not right. (Alyn looks to the left) And that's not, either...

Inside the one on the right now stands revealed a mockery of The Duke-- roughly his size, but with sort of dark charcoal-gray skin and glowing red-orange eyes. Too many eyes. And too many mouths. All over. Three fingers and a thumb on one hand, four fingers but two thumbs on the other. The feet are in vaguely bootlike shapes, but they kind of have toes, too (also the wrong numbers).

On the left stands a hunched and twisted version of Alyn, its toothless mouth open in a silent scream, its head crackling with sickening black-light-lightning sparks...

Fortunately, they seem to have been "birthed" a bit soon-- they stand there for a moment, swaying, trying to get their bearings...

(The Duke's turn, maybe?)

The Duke was repulsed by the filthy things revealed inside and he certainly did not intend to wade into a disease!! What if the sweet jello lady wouldn't want tu hug with him anymore? Oh no that was not good. He was about to close the door again in the same brute force manner he had opened it but then the poor Dukie was engulfed in Alyns weird lightning and the dirty oozy things where vaporized and turned into him? THAT was not good. Imagine poor Jello would mistake that dirty thing for min and didn't want tu hug anymore. He was going to do bad things to the fake Duke and he was going to do it NOW!

Power gloves crackling the Duke is upon himself faster then such a large mass should be able to move out of a standstill. The power fist that usually is off now slams into the surprised lump of mass with such force its fleshly bits discover that its boney bits have a whole other acceleration then the soft parts that the fist almost ignores and with a sucking wet sound the entire skeleton is slapped straight out of the fake Duke the rib cage a shattered mess from the impact as meat and bone drop to the ground in two separate heaps as the duke  spits down on it.

"There can only be one!"

He then slowly turns to the Alynn copy and cracks his neck ready to do more.

10:09, Today: The Duke rolled 12 using 2d6+2 with rolls of 5,5.  Atrocity time!! – 12

so a 12 that means 1 strong enemy gets utterly destroyed and if they are not strong both are done for. But well i am sure of one so took the liberty to atrocity myself.

+2 on the next instance of violence

The copycat lurgi version of The Duke can take a lot of damage, but The Duke's power fists help a lot. That thing's unlikely to hurt anyone ever, from now on...

(Yes, the lurgi imitation of The Duke is destroyed. Someone else's turn now-- probably Alyn again, unless someone else wants to come in...?)

Alyn drew his hand back towards his person. The psychokinetic storm of lightning that he had unleashed on the 2 Lurgi dissipated suddenly and unnaturally. Alyn turned toward the Clone and attempted to instead attune to it and force it out of existence, but there was too much psychic static in the air and his eyes stopped glowing suddenly at his attempt fizzled, like a car that wouldn't start. After such a big display from before, Alyn would need a bit to refocus.

23:48, Today: Alyn Reed rolled 5 using 2d6+2 with rolls of 2,1.  Weird/Scary.

...except the Duke's prophecy for Alyn suddenly comes true, as his 1 is swapped out with a 3! This makes the actual total of Alyn's attack against the clone a 7 (instead of a 5)! This actually means Duke's prophect prevented this from being a failure!

Except the Duke had foreseen this. Alyn had come, riding the Alynwalker 0 the Metal man that thundered over the land! And Alyn thought he was going to fail now, at a pivotol moment, except he had made the right choice in psychically lashing out at the clone after all! As suddenly and as inexplicably as the Duke's personality itself was, Alyn's powers flared to life as his eyes began to glow again! It was like his mental car just started back up again after all!

Blood now flows on stone, and the Clone's minds screech in terror as Alyn's power lashes out at it! As the Duke had foreseen!
