Bronze is basically an alloy that's mostly copper. Copper is common-- tin (the other thing that usually makes up bronze) is slightly harder to get locally. Sometimes local bronze has silicon in it, too.

Unless it comes from far away, what you're describing will NOT be iron, let alone steel.
