Game Mechanics and Setting

The game will use the rules set "Mutant Future" by Goblinoid Games, a RetroClone OSR game that captures the 'feel' of Gamma World, using a version of the old B/X D&D Rules.  They are available here:

Free, no-art version PDF: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/p...dition-noart-version

They also have the full version (art included) for pay, if you're interested. I'd recommend it - bought the print-on-demand copy myself.

The game itself will draw heavily on old Gamma World, including some monsters, encounters and Cryptic Alliances, as well as background.  This will be a melange from 1st, 2nd and 4th editions, with a bit of 'whatever cool Post-Apoc movie or book I feel like'. :)

Much like the OSR (Old School Revival) games, I'm aiming for a tone in-between "I don't name them 'til they hit 5th level" and "I wrote an 18-page backstory so I expect my character to have plot armor".  The death of a PC is possible, and likely at some point to happen at least once.  That doesn't mean the player is out of the game - there will be the opportunity to bring in new, exciting characters.

To me, the genre is "Planet of the Apes" mixed with "Star Man's Son" and some of Bakshi's "Wizards" thrown in.  It may have zany mutations and characters, but it's not played for laughs, or goofy.  Death in the Black Years is a real thing.  Movies like "The Terminator" and "Road Warrior" also play into this.  And of course "Kamandi, Last Boy on Earth" as well as the unforgettable "Thundarr the Barbarian"!

The starting point for the campaign will be The Far Lone Isle, a large island 50 kilometers off the coast of a major continent...
