Guidelines and Joining

To join submit a short story about how the character you intend to play died.  You will be accepted based on your writing sample.  Write in third person past tense.

The game will use Classic Battletech RPG rules for combat.  If you are accepted we will go through character creation using the Life Path system.  Battletech is a realistic game that uses gradual character progression based on skills rather than levels.  It uses hit location damage, and injuries instead of traditional HP.  You don't need to be familiar with Battletech to join, but you should start familiarising yourself with it if you're accepted, and I can help you with that.  Any aspects that pertain to the Battletech universe will be tweaked for a modern setting.  I will also try to put more of an emphasis on roleplaying than die rolling.  So depending on how familiar you are with Battletech, you can safely rely on roleplaying principles and gradually work on implementing the Battletech system.

After completing the life path you will have your starting character stats, and then you will be asked to write a paragraph each for your character's appearance, personality, and background.

There will be a thread for the Gantz room, which all new players will spawn in.  Once I have enough players who are ready a mission will start.  If any more players join while a mission is underway, they will have to wait for the mission to end before they can spawn in the room.  In between missions, and while waiting to join, players can post their own stories about what they do outside of the room and in their own time.  Bonus XP will be awarded for writing stories.  1xp per 10 words, and bonus XP for exceptional writing quality.

There will also be awards for roleplaying based on votes.  We can discuss the voting awards collectively.  I'll take input before deciding.

When spending XP on levelling up skills, you can only level up a skill one degree between missions, and you need to write something about how your character acquired the skill progression.  If it's a new skill or leveling up an old school, you need to describe what you did to learn it or train in it.  This will count as writing stories between missions for bonus XP too.  You don't have to spend all of your XP, it will carry over until you decide to spend it.
