The Bennington Family (Lawgivers of the Wasteland)

A thread for discussing and sorting out the fine detail of this family.

Humanity is hurt, bleeding. The land cries out for justice. If there’s no-one around to keep people on the straight and narrow and uphold the law,
you’ll just have to step up and take the law into your own hands. The Lawgivers of the Wastelands use Reach to track down their targets, and Grasp to bring them in.

Stats
Reach 1
Grasp 1
Sleight -1

Mood
Data
Tech

Doctrine
Righteous Vigilantes: When you come to a scene of violence, you can ask the GM one question about the victim or the attacker.

Lifestyle</>
Nomadic: When your Family moves on from a settlement where they laid down the law, name one thing that settlement will now always (or never) do.

<b>Resources

Two Surpluses: Weaponry, Leadership
Three Needs: Transport, Defenses, Recruits.

Traditions
Populace: far-removed descendants of cops and soldiers

Style: simple uniforms and hidden blades

Governance: lone vigilantes calling in for support when needed

Landmarks

Before: A courthouse full of preserved archives.

The Fall: A refugee camp torn apart from the inside.

A Threat: A dangerous ruin full of squatters with nowhere else to go.

Moves
Laying down the law:
Everything you do is motivated by a strict moral code, passed down through the Family.

Who always deserves protection? Your Family and Character take +1 while protecting them. The young

Who always deserves your justice? Your Family and Character take +1 while pursuing them. slavers

What does your Family’s code prevent you from doing in the name of justice? Your Family and Character take -1 ongoing if you go further, until the GM thinks you’ve made amends. Murder.

Round Up the Posse:
When you brandish your Family’s authority in a non-hostile land you can recruit a gang of locals to fight at your side and take someone down. So long as you work towards bringing that target to justice you can use them as a group of Followers (Quality +1, Expertise: vigilante justice), and when they fight alongside you they reduce the harm you take by 1.

How Do You Fight? Heavy Pistols (ranged, brutal)

How Do You Travel? All Terrain Trucks (Land, Transport)

What Useful Expertise Can You Draw On? Magistrates (1 Quality, Negotiating Compromises)

History
Which of you supports our crusade the most? Give them 2 Treaty.

Which of you did we save from slaughter at the hand of raiders? Take 2 Treaty

Which of you raised the Homeland's worst criminal? Take 1-Treaty on them; they give another Family that the criminal victimized 1-Treaty.

Excellent - looks good to me.

The one thing I think you're missing is the choice of assets. You get to pick three options out of the 'How do you fight/how are you defended/how do you travel/what expertise can you draw upon' bit of the playbook.

Okay, I chose the three I wanted and added them under my moves in the original sheet. What's next? ;)

I think I mentioned in one of the other threads that I'm also intending to use the 'Havens' rule from the Engine of Life supplement which basically means you add one more (generally positive) landmark to the map.

For the Lawgivers you get a choice of (or make up something similar):

• An imposing monument where the righteous faced the end together.
• An idyllic cabin by a lake, where the last and first lawman retreated to.
• Walls scribbled with the prayers of thousands of grateful victims.

I think I will go with An idyllic cabin by a lake where the last and first lawman retreated to.

Any preference for where your landmarks should go on the map?
