EXAMPLE OF PLAY

EXAMPLE OF PLAY:

Players are:
--stories of INDIVIDUALS
--stories of GROUPS
--and the GM, who plays all other roles.

The players have determined that:
--the world is a round sphere, and that
--humans have not yet discovered fire.

GM randomly determines that Individuals will start.

INDIVIDUALS:

--I will make Othar, a smarter-than-average young man who figures out how to keep a fire going. The next time a summer lightning storm strikes a tree, Othar will learn to maintain it and move it around, build campfires, and so on.

--I will also make Rorgrim, a mighty hunter-- the greatest hunter in the world, in fact.

--I don't think I'll pick a Chosen yet.

GROUPS:

--I will make Middoc, the leader of the tribe to which Othar and Rorgrim belong. In his youth, he was the strongest of his tribe. Now, the tribe is named after him, the Middocs.

(OOC, The GM awards Individuals 1 Tally point because of this.)

--I will also make the Green Tribe, a mysterious tribe of humans in the area who all wear wooden masks. None of the Middocs know what their deal is.

--I'll hold off on picking a Chosen yet, too.

GM:

--In my role as Magic, I'll declare that the Green Tribe know nature magic and can cast spells.

(OOC, The GM awards Groups 1 Tally point because of this.)

--And since it's my first turn... In my role as Places, I'll say that both tribes live in the Lorr Valley, which the largest and most dangerous non-human predators avoid for some strange reason. Even the Green Tribe don't yet know why-- though they're glad of it.

(OOC, The GM awards Groups 1 Tally point because of this.)

--I'll hold off on picking a Chosen, too, for now.

INDIVIDUALS:

--I'll make Chanek, leader of the Green Tribe. His magic has told him that one of the Middocs has mastered controlling fire, and he's interested. He's considering offering to merge the Middocs with the Green Tribe, but first he wants to wait and see if the Middocs can really keep fire going over a long period... and if they can avoid starting a forest fire that destroys them.

(OOC, The GM awards Groups 1 Tally point because of this.)

OOC GROUPS: Hey, I think I'll post that as time goes on, the Green Tribe decides to offer to merge the two tribes... let's do a Conflict thing to decide.

OOC INDIVIDUALS: Sure, okay... I don't think I'll spend any Tally points, though.

OOC GROUPS: Really? Heck, I think I'll spend all 3 of mine...

INDIVIDUAL ROLL: 5

GROUPS ROLL: 12 (PLUS 3)

GROUPS:

--As time goes on, the Green Tribe decides to offer to merge the two tribes... Middoc accepts, when Chanek demonstrates that he can do magic. Chanek promises Middoc that Middoc will still be the leader of the tribe when it comes to non-spiritual matters.

(OOC, The GM awards Individuals 1 Tally point for this.)

GM:

--In my role as Wild Things, I create... a magical talking tree, The Gnarled One. It's the power of The Gnarled One that keeps the most dangerous predators out of the valley... but now that fire has been discovered by humans, The Gnarled One's a little concerned. The humans of the valley are aware of the location of The Gnarled One, but have no idea it's magical nor capable of human speech. But soon, that will change...
