EXAMPLE OF PLAY

The players' characters are:

--Margit the Dwarven Defender
Forceful: +2
Agile: 0
Insightful: -1
Charming: +1
--Margit has one parent. Something happened to the other parent-- they went somewhere (because of the war?) and haven't come back for a long time...

--Elladan the Elven Nice Kid
Forceful: 0
Agile: +1
Insightful: 0
Charming: +2
--Elladan has no parents (anymore), but lives with someone who has adopted him-- a very nice old half-elf woman.

--Django the Human Weird Kid
Forceful: 0
Agile: 0
Insightful: +2
Charming: 0
----Troll magic: Django can (temporarily) make things sticky or slippery just by looking at them and concentrating. This can slow people down who are chasing you, or can make people drop things, or all kinds of other useful applications...
--Django has no parents (anymore), and no home. He lives on the streets, and/or in abandoned buildings.

All three kids spend most of their time in the Poor Quarter (hey, at least it's not the Bad Quarter).

The kids are trying to get back a book that a teen gang stole from Django. To do this, they have learned that they must travel to the Shop Quarter-- the gang may be planning to attempt to sell the book in a bookshop.

It is decided that Django will lead the way:

Django rolls 3d6: 4,5,4. The highest result is 5. The trio get to where they're going without anyone noticing//paying attention to them.

When the trio arrives at the bookshop, the teen gang is there... they look dejected.

There's also a lot of them-- too many to fight.

Elladan decides to try to talk to the teens and negotiate justice.

Elladan has +2 to Charming, so he rolls 3d6: 4,3,4. The highest result is 4: partial success.

The teen gang tells the trio of kids that the book shop owner seemed suspicious that the book might be stolen, so they weren't able to sell it. They also refuse to give it back, because they say they're being blackmailed by a woman who caught them trying to steal her purse-- and she knew their names! They suspect her of being a witch.

The trio of kids decide to investigate the woman-- there's always a way to defeat a witch, if one can just find out what it is.

The teen gang says that if they can keep the witch from blackmailing them, that they'll give Django's book back. They say that the witch lives in the Strange Quarter (another sign that she's probably a witch).

The trio must travel to the Strange Quarter:

Django rolls 3d6: 4,2,1. The highest result is 4... Halfway to where they're going, Mr. Hot, the (treant) truant officer spots the trio of kids (from at least 15 feet away)... "STOP... CHILDREN...!" he yells, and he starts to chase them!

Of course, no one tells Margit, Elladan, nor Django what to do...!

OOC, Django suggests that they split up temporarily. Margit doesn't like that plan, because she's the slowest runner... The kids decide to just run on ahead to the Strange Quarter anyway...

Django tries using his troll magic to make the ground under Mr. Hot's feet sticky... 4,4,3 The highest result is 4. It slows Mr. Hot down some, but not quite enough to let the kids run out of sight (Mr. Hot has very long legs).

Seeing that just running away isn't working, Elladan decides to try to distract Mr. Hot by running back and slipping past him the other way, and meeting up with his friends later.

Elladan rolls 2d6: 6,6! Highest result is-- obviously-- a 6!

Elladan runs back toward Mr. Hot, and zips past him, running back the way they came. Mr. Hot tries to grab Elladan with his huge hands as Elladan runs past-- but Elladan is too quick for him.

Elladan runs around a corner... When Mr. Hot turns, he sees that Django and Margit are out of his sight, now, too. "I... WILL... MAKE THINGS... VERY... HOT... FOR YOU...!" Mr. Hot shouts to the neighborhood... but he shouts in vain (and he knows it)...

Elladan and his friends are too streetwise to be separated for long, and soon they find one another and meet back up. Soon, they are regarding the house of the (alleged) witch, a crooked old soot-blackened house in the Strange Quarter...
