Wilbur Francis-Wright:
OOC: I could stand to continue, although as Victor notes, some things would have to change.
What I had hoped to get out of this game, I suppose, was the weird religious drama of being a drunkard counterfeit priest in this situation. I didn't really build the character with survival skills in mind moreso than any other aspect of the character, either.
To that end, I expected to be part of a larger cast of players, in which case it's easier to have a character sit on the sidelines for some aspects of the game and pick up for some other aspect.
It doesn't really seem nearly as likely to shoehorn that play experience in at this point, so I'd have to start playing the character differently--although, off the top of my head, I'm not really at all certain what early 19th century chemistry knowledge looks like with regards to survival.
Cool. There's a number of things you can try to do without a skill but gathering firewood, and being proactive on just the sheer gruntwork would be helpful. And really wouldn't force you into a unreasonable playmode...I mean this is a survival situation (i.e. do or die).
As long as our GM is fine with continuing of course.
As far as chemistry, well it would depend on Wilbur's practical knowledge moreso than theoretical. Personally I would just google '18th century chemistry' and gander what comes up as the early 19th century stuff might not be fully disseminated yet (though as an Englishman, Wilbur is more likely to know of new advances).
Offhand, Wilbur probably knows how to make lye (it's pretty rudimentary)...so soap. Acids, bases, gunpowder should be in his knowledge base though he might not have much practice with any of that (at least from 'scratch'). I mean I wouldn't expect a 'Walter White' out of him but there might be some fun problem solving aspects of chemistry you could explore.
