RULES AND STUFF

Roll 2d6 and add your Forceful modifier to attempt to:
--attack someone
--break something
--bend something

Roll 2d6 and add your Agile modifier to attempt to:
--attempt to sneak around without anyone detecting you
--attempt to dodge something (say, holy water being tossed in your direction, for example)
--attempt to catch someone who's running away (unless they're, you know actually faster than you)

Roll 2d6 and add your Insightful modifier to attempt to:
--Remember something useful or important
--Figure something out (including about your Need)
--Find something hidden
--Find a good target to feed on
--Find a good way to indulge your Minor Temptation
--Be brave
--Stay focused
--Stay determined
--Resist temptation
--Not panic

Roll 2d6 and add your Charming/Intimidating modifier to attempt to:
--Persuade someone by making them feel sorry for you
--Frighten someone
--Try to make someone like you
--Try to get someone to NOT be scared of you

RULE ONE: AFTER YOU ROLL 2D6 (and a modifier), The GM will then roll 2d6 as well. If he feels you're rolling for something particularly easy or hard, he will tell the diceroller to subtract from or add points to his roll before it is made.

If you roll higher than the GM, you have succeeded (the GM will either explain what happens, or will say to you "So, knowing that it's a success, tell me what happens!")

If you roll lower than the GM, you have failed (the GM will either explain what happens, or will say to you "So, knowing that it's a fail, tell me what happens!")

If your result ties perfectly with the GM, it's a partial success (or, if you want to look at it that way, a partial failure). (The GM will either explain what happens, or will say to you "So, knowing that it's a partial success, tell me what happens!" BUT, for a partial success/partial failure, the GM will probably just explain it himself.)

RULE TWO: THE BIGGER, THE BIGGER; THE SMALLER, THE SMALLER: The harder the thing you attempt, the worse your failure or partial success will be! The easier the thing you attempt, the more harmless your failure or partial failure will be!

THE NARRATION OPPORTUNITY RULE:

--After the GM makes his roll: The GM will tell you what happens. IF the GM offers you the opportunity to narrate the results, then if you spend at least three complete sentences narrating what goes wrong (or partially wrong) or narrating your success, take an extra +1 on your next roll.

--IF you roll higher than the GM AND IF the GM offers you the opportunity to narrate the results AND IF the final result on your Success was higher than 12: THEN IF you spend at least three complete sentences narrating the success, take an extra +1 on your next roll, AND ALSO give another player an extra +1 toward their next roll (you can give yourself +2 toward your next roll ONLY if it's a solo game with no other players).

RULE THREE: INNOCENCE: The goddess Celadel, goddess of justice, got extremely fed up with undead preying upon the innocent. ALL UNDEAD ARE WEAKENED BY THE INNOCENT. The innocent are like a Bane for you. So no killing/eating kids nor adults who are pure (enough) of heart. You can be in the presence of the innocent-- you might even like them or fall in love with them (if they're adults)! But you may NOT attack them nor consume any part of them (unless they consent of their own free will! Loophole!)!

Your drinking blood/eating people/stealing-the-warmth-of-the-living activities are limited (except for the Loophole, see above!) to people who have murdered (besides self-defense or defense of the innocent, and War is an extremely gray area Murderwise) or people who have otherwise preyed upon the innocent. (You can instantly tell if people are officially Innocent or not just by getting within about 15 feet of them. You're just special that way.)

DOING MAGIC:
--Draugr: You do magic by making Charming/Intimidating rolls.
--Lich: You do magic by making Insightful rolls (because your magic involves having learned Magic Words And Phrases, chants, that sort of thing, and you have to remember them correctly).
--Mummy: If you do magic, you do it by making Insightful rolls (because your magic involves having learned Magic Words And Phrases, chants, that sort of thing, and you have to remember them correctly).
--Snow Woman: You do magic by making Charming/Intimidating rolls.

In combat, cold/winter magic usually just consists of:
--paralyzing the living
--doing damage from a distance
--blinding a target with snow and freezing wind in their face suddenly (good if you need to try to escape)
--freezing things (making ice, etc.)

To do more cold/winter magic than that, you'll probably have to kill/consume the warmth of the living...

When doing any kind of Magic, always remember Rule Two (see above)...

Other playbooks can choose to learn magic when they Level Up...

TO ROLL DAMAGE (Incorporeal beings get to ignore any armor their targets may have):
--Banshee: 1 hit
--Death Knight: 2d3 hits
--Draugr: 2d2 hits
--Drowned Ghost: 1 hit
--Ghost: 1 hit
--Ghoul: 1d2 hits
--Lich: 1d3 hits (magic. Does 1 hit if just attacking physically)
--Mummy: 1d3 hits
--Revenant: 2d2 hits
--Skeleton: 1d2 hits
--Snow Woman: 1d2 hits
--Vampire: 1d3 hits
--Zombie: 1d3 hits

ARMOR:
--HIDE/LEATHER/ARCANE ARMOR +1 armor
--SHIELD: +1 armor
--BIG "TOWER" SHIELD: +2 armor
--CHAINMAIL ARMOR +2 armor
--SCALE ARMOR +3 armor
--PLATE ARMOR +4 armor

--Just a (non-magical) helmet: no extra benefit
--Just (non-magical) bracers/greaves: no extra benefit
--Wearing bracers AND greaves: +1 armor
--Just a (non-magical) breastplate: +2 armor, but zero benefit if attacked from behind

Undead cannot wear armor heavier than leather armor, with certain exceptions:
--Death Knights (who start the game with armor), Draugr, and Skeletons may wear armor without penalty.
--Revenants may wear chainmail and use a shield without a penalty if they want, BUT it will NOT stack with their natural armor.
--If any other undead PC puts on armor, they get a -1 to all rolls. Yes, all rolls.

WHEN YOU ATTEMPT TO DO SOMETHING THAT INVOLVES YOU DIRECTLY PURSUING YOUR NEED: add an extra +1 to your roll.

IF YOU SUCCEED IN YOUR ATTEMPT TO PURSUE YOUR NEED: Add an extra +3 to your next two rolls!

All undead PCs start with 8 hit points. Lose them all, and you may be destroyed... but you might be able to get back up eventually unless the way you lost your last hit point involved:
--holy/blessed stuff
--fire
--one or more of your Banes, maybe (it depends)

IF YOU EVER COMPLETELY SATISFY YOUR NEED: Choose one:
--Your undead character gets to rest in peace. Retire them and make a new character if you want to keep playing.
OR
--Talk to the GM about "leveling up" your character. This will involve them becoming a little more powerful (adding one point to a stat), and also a cool new thing they can do (or getting better at a particular type of move or situation).
OR
--Your undead character is still undead, but no longer needs to harm nor frighten others to survive peacefully. Make a new character-- your old character will be the "mentor" to your new character-- giving advice, maybe some other help...

IF YOU AND THE OTHER PLAYERS SUCCEED IN A BIG GOAL AS A TEAM: Each character "levels up" (see above.)

"Hey, GM! My character was a Thief/Ranger/Barbarian/Druid/Cleric/Whatever when they were alive! Can I have them do a cool class move now?!"

No. Death changes many things. It dries out your sinews and chews at your brain, and the gods start looking at you funny (or, if they always looked at you funny before, they start looking at you funny in a different way now that you're dead, trust me). If you wanna say "I hide in shadows," then sure, roll Agile and give it a shot, baby, that's groovy, but I'm not giving you a special mathemagical bonus to your roll to try it. Now, when you start Leveling Up, maybe that's another story! Maybe you might start remembering how to do some of those awesome old skills your backstory says you were able to pull off when you were alive. But at the start of the game? If it isn't in your Undead playbook, then not so much, Old Sport, sorry, not yet.
