as the various capabilities are listed, he starts to explore each of them. Testing the limits of his senses, he wonders how it works
As he is wondering how it works, in the "examine data" field of his enhanced perception, the scientific specifications for how his various functions operate is explained in detail, with accompanying videos etc. None of this information requires his attention, but he is able to pay attention to it if he chooses.

he test of speed is done by spinning and making little side-to-side motions of his sphere
He can move with twice the acceleration that he would fall on Earth. 10m in 1 second, 90 meters in 3 seconds, 1 km in 10 seconds, and 4.84 km in 22 seconds to reach max speed. Use this tool for more examples, changing gravity to 20m/s^2:

One thing he notices, is that he automatically adjusts his path to avoid accidental collision, and if something else is moving toward him, he automatically avoids collision.

The last big thing to test is his energy-field object manipulation, and he looks around for something within the range of his one-kilometers of sensory range and tries to lift it, manipulating it back and forth and trying to pull it apart.
Jack finds some scrap pipes laying around. With a little more strength than an alligator's jaws, he is able to manipulate it in any direction, and pull it apart. It breaks along a weakened section. In an arm-wrestling competition with the Muscorp body, the Digital Magic enhanced Muscorp body would win. But the field-manipulation force this body has access to would break bones in a human body.

“Are there any markets?”
"I'll show you!"
In a separate new perception field - also with a full 360 view - Jack finds himself apparently in a gigantic mall in front of a map, and in a human Jack avatar. One of the HUDs of this perceptive field includes the option to change his avatar's appearance. Although the graphics here appear realistic for a human, he somehow just knows this is a simulation.
He stands before a store-map, and is standing next to a 6' tall walking octopus with the label "Greeter" floating over its head. Greeter says, "You can search for anything specific by text or image search here, or you can browse by category. You can visit the stores arranged by seller, or you can arrange the contents of the stores by price or really any attribute you can think of, and the items for sale will be arranged to suit your request. Or you can browse in random-mode, and just see what's out there. For instance, if you were interested in field-manipulation coils to upgrade them, if you searched by text or image, all of the available FM coils would populate the closest store. If you then found a seller in that store who interested you, you could link over to the seller's store to see everything they were selling. Then if you browsed randomly, you might find a piece of art that intrigued you, and you could purchase it. Alot of programs that came from the sims like to build places in sim-space and then turn off their sim-recognition background app so they could forget they are in a sim, and just enjoy sensory existence in their designed sim-space. Because of this common practice among liberated programs, uploaded humans, and even native programs, digitally designed spaces and items can be sold here as well as just about anything else you could imagine. There's even a market for memories and experiences. If anyone might enjoy having or experiencing something they didn't create, it can be sold or traded."

by interacting with the locals and seeing what they have done
Greeter suggests they go off in random browsing mode for a bit. They walk down the mall corridors and pass by stores selling ancient artifacts, digital spaces, exciting and boring memories, exotic materials, alien machinery, data-cloned animals ((creatures whose DNA was printed from computer memory)), time limited construction and occupation rights for land use, every imaginable kind of art (some being called Meep Morp), sphere-body chassis accessories, science classes... the halls are practically endless.
quote:
If he can get enough raw materials, he can use the energy-field object manipulation to make a lot of upgrades to himself.
With time to study how the technologies work, Jack could upgrade himself by purchasing the raw materials or by obtaining them. Obtaining them would take longer, but it could be done. It could also be done anywhere the materials needed could be obtained since the technological information is accessible to him in raw form onboard his sphere-body.
quote:
Out of curiosity, he does attempt to open his digital menu, and tests the other types of bias, using his compass to pinpoint the levels. He doesn’t ever want to repeat the performance of his first jumps.
He doesn't have his compass - that's back in Muscorp world with his other bodies and his hat.
Cyber-Magic and Psionics seem 4 times as easy
Green Witch is 2 times as easy
Order, Spiritual, Shaman and Ghost are normal
Mutual-Magic, Spice-verse and Digital magic are 2 times as hard
Toon magics, HP and Home universe magics are 3 times as hard
EDIT:
The following console appears in his sim-space:
O-Save digital copy of item
O-Unlock Device
O-Slow Mo
O-Double currency
O-View Code
O-Stop/Reroute Projectiles
O-Shift/Alter Gravity for self and other
O-Contact Programmer
X-Warp Space
X-Warp Bomb
X-Freeze Program
X-Download Physical/Mental Skillset
X-Alternate ending (if used, activates at inevitable death)
