I'm not great with maps. If you want to work off of real-world maps, some sites give the real-world locations of some Fallout 4 stuff, the last actually being a Google Map with locations marked:

https://www.polygon.com/2015/6...-111-is-in-fallout-4
https://uproxx.com/gaming/fall...al-boston-locations/

Sorry everyone, apparently deciding I was going to write up all the Skill Lenses adhoc myself was "biting off a bit more than I could chew", so I've scrapped that (I came to this realization at 3am when my lower back seized up and I realized , 1 - what time it was, and 2 - that I was only a fourth of the way through after banging away at it for over eight hours straight).  I'll be skimming and copying over the Skill Lenses out of Action 4: Specialists (and editing a few to better fit) and have the basics of "How to Make a Vaultie" thread up later this afternoon (Attribute Packages are done (were done yesterday morning in fact), and I'm halfway through with Skill Lenses already at 10:30 am EST).

Your patience has been appreciated.

Definitely protect yourself! Copying from elsewhere and adjusting is efficient. (You could even drop the requirement of templates and lenses. ;) ) Take the time you need. I'm appreciative, as I'm sure are others. I'm still working on character description stuff anyway.

Appreciate the hard work assistant! I’m going to be available for any questions or anything all day. I go back to work tomorrow so today I’m going to be spending a lot of time getting final details together so that we are ready for launch on Monday.

About Vehicles. In the video games there are no driveable vehicles because of engine limitations. Now obviously they would require a lot of maintenance and fuel but how do you guys feel about vehicles in fallout? We will have Vertibirds, should we include regular vehicles as well?

Fallout 2 had the Highwayman, which was still functional. You used Microfusion Cells to charge it, IIRC.

I think if we can get a functional car, it should be a challenge. They're incredibly rare in the wasteland, after all.

Definitely, and I wouldn’t expect to see any traffic lol. I might go the Fusion Core route, since Fusion Cores will be used to power Vertibirds and Power Armor.  But I was thinking about maybe a roving trader who has a big bus or something, maybe a gunner base has a working APC. Select NPCs like Mayor McDonough could have access to a personal vehicle when traveling the wasteland.

Most vehicles in prewar Fallout were electric, either batteries or small nuclear reactors. I guess there were still some gas powered ones. They would have been sorta rare with the resource war and all.

Seems like there was some mention of steam powered vehicles I saw somewhere.

OMG!  We totally need vehicles, cars, trucks, bikes, trikes, small one-man gyrocopters, etc.  Fallout 3+ skipped them because the engine can't handle it, but Fallout 2 had the Highwayman* and Tactics had the Humvee and Ice Cream Truck (and the immobile tank in one mission).

The Ice Cream truck was a beast.

* Which was an overland map vehicle only, and storage on zoomed in areas.

[EDIT]
What am I saying!?!?  I have to come up with rules for these things!

I know, they'll all be tiny atomic bombs and if even looked at the wrong way explode.  Better not fail any driving tests!

I'm a genius!

Not going to complain about a dash of Mad Max in the mix!

More seriously though, vehicles make sense, junk wagons, bicycles, brahmin drawn carts.

If Raider groups can salvage a power armor frame, they can probably get a truck running.

Agreed on rarity, but it would be a cool addition. I am sure the developers would have included them of the system would have supported it.

Chargen Rules Thread is finally up, but it's not done.  Post number 2 has been giving me "problems".

I've discovered my old computer simply cannay handle posts of that magnitude, apparently older chrome (I'm on Win7 so it won't update anymore) has a ferocious memory leak.  Looking at the post wrong while it was open to be edited can cuase Windows to catch on fire and crash... and so does having a document editor that auto-saves while it's open being editting.

Chrome just doesn't liek it.  SO I'll keep chipping at it little by little, but until it's finalized, Post 1, 3, and 4 are fine.  Perfect if I do say so myself.

No gear lists.  But then hopefully I won't need those till later in the week, or even Monday...  what?  We won't need gear till we start scrounging it up after we wakey-wakey, no eggs and bacey.

Any general questions, pop them into the "NPC and Character Discussion", personal ones pop into your PM thread.  I'm taking a few minutes off to stretch my back (get dinner) and then I'll start chipping away those Skill Lens packages...

Build it in G3 Vehicles and then convert it to G4? You can still get GURPS Vehicle Builder, I think.

I'm still annoyed that David Pulver submitted a new Vehicles book years ago, but SJ Games is now run by cowards and won't even publish it electronically.

It less "cowards"* and more "it needs so much editing and would cost more to print than it'll make"†.

* Honestly, I don't think coward is an adjective I'd use on anyone at SJGames, not even the two guys I hate can't stand.  Stevie seems to have a knack at surrounding himself with people who have spines.

† That's basically straight the Kromm's mouth, just worded more diplomatically.  Sean Punch reviewed it for editing and he's said it would cost more just to edit‡ (let alone print) than it would ever make (based on projections from the first Vehicles book's sales).  Keep in mind, GURPS 3rd ed Vehicles was considered a flop, it made less money than it cost to print... and GURPS 4e is limping along being kept afloat by Munchkin and Steve's love for the system.

‡  Which doesn't mean it's poorly written, but he (being the editor) knows how much it would cost to edit it and print it (and yeah, that's even looking at it as a purely digital distro), and he has all the numbers from the last Vehicles book sales... and lastly GURPS has been drifting gently away from being a "diehard techhead mathnerd system" and Sean keeps trying to steer it into "popularity" (lololol, but I do wish him well, I'd love to see GURPS be popular before I die)... and as much as I enjoyed (but never, ever, ever used) GURPS 3e Vehicles, it's often touted as one of the reasons GURPS has a bad reputation for being "all about the maths".  Pulver is a great guy, and a great writer, but I think his pocket protector is screwed on a little too tightly in this area.  ;)

Vehicles is one of my favorite G3 books, so I am highly biased (and admittedly bitter), and GURPS hasn't been the same since they lost whoever was the one that got all the various properties for GURPS books. Without those, there are several things I wouldn't even know existed like Lensman and Riverworld.

As for the timeline, I highly recommend looking over this timeline: https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Timeline

The Fallout Wiki is an amazing resource.

Jobe00:

Noted, and I'm not saying it's a bad book.  It's great, if numbers and spreadsheets and that level of gritty minutia crank your gaming gears.  Unfortunately, for me, when it came out I was undergoing a bit of an ephiphany about how I like to run and play rpgs, and that level of fidelity is not where I'm at (anymore.  When I 12?  I made spreadsheets by hand... on graph paper.  I was a true GURPS Gearhead Mathnerd).  But by the time GURPS Vehicles cam eout I was 22 and no longer really interested in "doing all that math" just have realistic vehicles, when I was running Supers and Action campaigns, Star Wars, Fantasy, and other stuff where 'hard crunchy real numbers" just weren't particularly useful.

They didn't lose those people (I don't maybe they did, but I think it was an inverse relationship), it's just not financially viable to pick up IP for a failing, slowly sinking, being bailed out, rpg line.  They were stung hard by the White Wolf books and In Nomine.

But even so, they've still launched like three IP works (Girl Genius, Diskworld, Mars Attacks) in the last 5-10 years (and a few more I can't think and some more if we go back to the start of 4e) and the crazy guys behind the Prime Directive series are still making GURPS 4e Prime Directive (OS Trek, the Animated series, and Starfleet Battles IP).

Re: Pre-Game Discussion

I will be recruiting new players tomorrow before we go live. I know everything isn’t quite laid out perfectly yet but if you need help with character sheets or anything now is the time, once we get the new batch of players in we are going to be helping them get ready and I want to make sure those of you who pre-joined get the help and attention you need.

I’m off work in 3 hours, and I’m going to be finishing up the recruitment threads, and just doing some background work throughout the night tonight

Don't worry about me, I have nothing better to do until Monday.  I'm not working the next few days either (with my back out) and have nothing planned over the weekend, except maybe some tv watching (but GURPS is more fun than that).

I will be going out and risking mowing in another hour though, I might not survive... (Florida, dreaded sunlight, ferocious heat wave, back is still a wee bit sore and twingey)

I wish you the best in conquering the yard, I hope it goes well because I’d be lost without you lol

I am proud to say I’ve now listened to over  6 hours of GURPS mechanics and explanations and now believe I’ve got a pretty firm grasp on the basics. Now it’s mostly going to be constantly having to reference things, although I’m probably going to make up modifiers on the fly based on  my overall feeling about the check and how difficult it should be.

That it is.  If I wasn't renting I'd have it all ripped up and put clover in.  It's green, thick, and short.  It's also pretty damn good about choking out weeds...

Pre-Game Discussion

Game ad has been posted. Everyone, feel free to invite friends, post the game link in other places, etc. there’s no real rush either, I’ll accept new players as they come I can separate people out into different groups if needed.

I went ahead and took down the game information thread, it felt a little redundant right now. And then eventually I may post the timeline but I realized there’s so much to cover that if someone is interested they can go to the wiki. I will make a thread eventually to keep track of the in game lore events you guys learn about, so they the information doesn’t get lost in threads.

Me and assistant are still hammering out stuff in the background. If anyones interested in helping out with some grunt work I’m trying to put together a list of all the different items one can get in fallout 4. And then I’d like to get a list of the scrap components and I’m going to start working on figuring out some blue prints for you guys. Maybe somehow I can link blue prints to certain skills and skill levels? I’ve got ideas…

Anyways, don’t feel obligated I just know sometimes players like to have things they can do to help get things ready. Assistant is doing wonders in the background with all the GURPS stuff.

Correction, PM Assistant with the subject “Potential Character Background - Sarah Dietrich”

I’m setting up PM threads right now that I request everyone use for all future messages to me. You may continue to message assistant under your chargen PM thread. For those of you who don’t have character names yet, please let me know what you would like so that I can set up your new PM thread.

Thanks guys!

We have a healthy looking cast, and only one more day to go until launch! Some friendly reminders…

1. This is a bleak world, expect things to be unfair! You guys are playing on hard mode. Remember that. You do NOT have to kill everything you encounter, and sometimes, it really is best just to fucking leave. Run away. It’s how you survive

2. I’m giving you guys full freedom to get creative, so don’t think you’re limited on what you can do. GURPS has rules for everything, so if you can think it, me and assistant can make it work.

3. The world will react to and remember your choices, choose carefully. There’s going to be lots of faction interaction and relationships will have an impact on the game, each faction will provide unique benefits
