The Mysterious Student from Abroad

Word had spread among the students about a new student from England. Apparently it was a boy, from a rich family, a very handsome one at that if the rumors were to be believed. Apparently something happened when his powers emerged and he was coming all the way from England. Exactly who started these rumors is weirdly not so clear-- but it seems like the information came from the files Emma had on the boy.

When Banshee came down to go pick up the boy at the airport, he was surprised to be ambushed by several girls who had gathered with their own separate motives for going along on the trip. As Banshee had little desire to spend an hour alone in a car with a boy as he never did master small talk, he relented quickly.

Of course-- among those who showed up were neither Angelo nor Clarice who felt uncomfortable in public places due to their odd skin pigmentation nor Mondo who had barely left the Biodome ever since he came to the school. But a good half the handful of students at the school seemed to want to be the first to get to make an impression on the newcomer.

The ride to the airport had taken an hour, an hour that had turned out to be full of uncomfortable silences broken up only by occasional bickering as only those who are forced to live together despite having nothing in common might. Hardly anyone could have been surprised by the result and Banshee probably regretted taking them along rather than face that long awkward silence. Just because his powers revolved around screaming didn't mean he couldn't get a headache.

But eventually they arrived at the airport. They just needed to get to arrivals Terminal E where the British Airlines flight the boy came in on was meant to land without killing each other.

Jubilation had changed her attire since she was sent to a school where the freakin Juggernaut was the P.E. Teacher! She tried her best to see the best in people but guys like that? Guys who hurt her friends? Who hurt Wolvie? That was a harder task. She did trim her hair a little but about 30 seconds she realized going the full hair change new life new me was a bit too dramatic also her hair looked good if she did say so herself. Instead she had a Jean Jacket covered in patches including the Xmen symbol. In her inside pocket was a couple of Wolvie's Cigars. She'd never smoke em, not after the time she tried one and nearly vomited up a lung nooooo thank you. But the smell reminded her of the adventures they went on. Her pink shirt had been swapped out with an orange white and purple striped shirt. She wore jeans instead of shorts because Massachusetts was freakin cold she had got more comfortable boots with built in wheels and less flared gloves but she stuck with blue. Lastly were her shades. She still had a pair but darker and not pink she kept them in her front pocket. She leaned against a wall chewing gum with her earbuds in listening to Blue Oyster Cult's Firework.

Monet had come to talk to the others. But for whatever reason everyone was ignoring everone else. Her attempts to start conversations appeared to be met with people prefering to listen to music than talk to each other, or other teenage reasons that she didn't understand

She wasn't very bothered by the weather: being invulnerable had a number of advantages, so she wore clothes that she liked rather than dressing for the weather. Her designer puce leggings were both comfortable and looked like a million dollars, her blue T Shirt which went well with the hint of highlight in her hair had been tailored to match and the hand made sneakers looked a little like LA Gear sneakers but had better colour coordination

She'd opted out of the long drive to the airport with the gaggle of girls. Sitting at the table she quietly ate her breakfast, as she did she heard one of the other, what she envisaged inmates, moving about. Hey Co-innie what ya upto?

While out of the car, Sean tried his best to try to make use of the signs. He might be a former spy, but the layouts of these airports could be unavoidably confusing for those who'd been out of practice of using them for a while. He was pretty sure they were at the arrivals section rather than the departures section, but there were so very many landing platforms.

Looking up at the closest building they had parked by, it did indeed say Terminal E. So that was a start.

"All right, lasses!" he called out to his charges, "Let's go in and see if we can find the lad."

It would be no easy task as it's not like the arrivals were neatly sorted by what flight they arrived on and they had never actually seen a picture of this boy before.

"This is not gonna end well." Jubilee remarked pausing her music. She was doing the math in her head. "Group of mutants+ New mutant making a major life change+ Public setting with human civilians= Them getting attacked by something." When you rolled with the X-Men, literally in her case, you couldn't take a pee break without a Sentinel showing up or the baddie of the week trying to kidnap you. She then grinned. Well either it wouldn't be boring or they'd have a nice day out. Win Win.

The Mysterious Student from Abroad

Sean brought a hand up to his forehead with a self-depreciating groan. How could he forget such a detail. He'd been out of the service for too long.

He reached into his pocket and retrieved a cellphone. While he was getting up there in age, he could at least take pride that he wasn't a luddite as many in his age range had become.

"I'd properly forgotten. The boy sent a picture before he got on the jet," he explained as he started clicking through the phone messages. It took him longer than he would have preferred to click through to the pictures and forward it, but he did manage to do so.

All of the girls got a buzzing in their pocket on the identical phones Emma had given them. They were all savvy enough to know she really gave them the phones to track them. In fact, they found they couldn't turn the GPS option off. And who knew just how closely she monitored other activities they used it for. Of course, they each had their own solution to that issue-- from intentionally looking up and downloading stuff to really screw with her and get her to admit she is doing it if confronted about it to throwing caution to the wind to keeping a second phone for personal use.

The picture that arrived would probably be pretty disappointing to those who had taken too much stock in the rumor that this boy was super dreamy. In the picture he was dressed in all dark gray and black, had a coat that was probably long and everything from his nose down was completely covered with a mask covering his lower face and a turtleneck sweater under his coat. He has long medium length unkempt brown hair and brown eyes. It was also clear from the angle and lighting that he probably wasn't used to taking selfies.

"I figure the boy has got to come out those doors, sooner or later," Sean said while indicating the main doors for the terminal. "But if the lot of you go inside and search the lad out, we might find him faster."

And if the boy had a phone too, why couldn't they just send him a message? Because the boy was on a British phone service, of course-- he'd be getting a 'no service' signal unless he bought a connection to the airport wifi and he might not have a credit card to do that.

Jubilee pulled out her School Phone and lifted her tinted glasses examining the photo and then gave Teach a thumbs up."Do we know what's his flight number? Planes usually stream people in through a particular gate? I mean any well run..." she trailed off noting the absolute lack of any indication where any planes were coming from. "Wow and I thought LAX was incompetent. " She then had an idea and darted off to the SUV Trunk. She opened it after ensuring nobody was looking and with the help of some duct tape, cardboard, a black marker and a broom handle made a sign that could be held aloft and returned to Teach and Monet.

Monet's phone was a lot nicer looking than the school phone. Once she had found it was a spy phone she had left it powered down in bubble wrap and tinfoil in her room. ~Strike 1~ she had thought to herself at the time, and then gone looking for other spying devices. Rather bizarrely perhaps she valued her privacy. And she was very very good at knowing how to locate and find spying devices.

"Sure we can go in" Monet commented. "If you want Jubilation I'll wait for him at the place where he would exist from the Gates."

"If he looks like this I don't think the sign matters: But I'll take the dorkish sign. My ego isn't damaged by carrying a stick with a sign on it." she shook her head at the gum "Thanks but I don't do gum." and there was no chance she was going to hit an American Cafe. They couldn't even make a decent coffee, and every single food item was so full of sugar, salt and preservatives it wasn't even edible. Even the bread was so sugary that in Europe it had to be legally classified as 'cake'

"Cordelia's right though. Getting through security like that would be... interesting. And with passport control it's absolutly not happening: they demand you remove all face covering. Big issue with some Muslim women... I wonder if he has some sort of telepathy, illusion... Or maybe he just doesn't like being photoed. Still the photo shows his eyes. I think I'll recognise him by his eyes even if he doesn't have the scarf"

Monet did in fact take the sign then

Re: The Mysterious Student from Abroad

Screams ring out from deep within the airport, although it is too far and the place echos and is filled with other noises too much to perfectly locate the source of the sound-- people who had been closer to the baggage area begin running by towards the main exit. Others that had been milling about in the various restaurants, shops and cafes react in a number of ways.

There are those who are too occupied with their meal or other activity to really pay any mind to those running by. Others perk up at the noise and begin looking around for answers with a sense of bewilderment. Still others quickly catch on the general vibe that people are fleeing from something, they should leave too-- although unaware of what they are escaping, they don't do so with the haste of the first wave. And there are even a few, possessed of curiosity, begin trying to head towards the direction so many are fleeing from seeking an answer before deciding what to do. While there aren't many who do this, the general panic soon causes the halls to become crammed with people.

This wasn't good. Not good at all. For all Monet knew this had nothing to do with their student or themselves... but what were the odds of that? Not that it really mattered: there were a lot of people here, and they would get hurt if this matter didn't get resolved quickly

Monet was the kind of person who could move across a room to catch a bullet aimed at someone else. It really didn't take her long to head deeper into the airport, flying over the head of the people there probably too fast for them to see: although they might be knocked back a little by the air she was displacing. She was heading for where the trouble was...

The TSA agents who would normally mind the gates are completely absent, allowing Jubilee to run right though. She ends up spotting a crowd around one of the baggage areas, but can't see through all the people gathered around-- the security trying to respond and various people trying to record the event on their cell phone rather than helping or running, a rather novel reaction since 2010.

Monet's rush to get to the scene sends a gust of wind that knocks plenty of other people fleeing off their feet as they find themselves running directly into a very sudden gust of wind by something flying above their heads. It is enough to rattle the store and outer windows, but since the outer windows are hurricane proof and the inner ones not that much weaker, none of them even crack at the blast of window. The main chaos caused is by the people falling and sliding across the halls only to trip up others who are also trying to make their way out. The commotion is plenty enough to cause lots of shouting and screaming.

Jubilee herself would get hit by the brunt of the wind upon landing and trying to become aware of what is going on.

From the air, it is Monet who gets a good look at what has happened. The boy they were searching for has been attacked-- and from initial appearance, it would seem that they are probably too late to save him.

Although he remains on his feet, a slightly taller dark gray creature garbed in black with beady glowing red eyes stands next to him. The creature had a large respirator over its mouth, giving it a bit of an "elephant" appearance due to the hose snaking down into a tank at its side. It had skin that appeared stone-like, hair that appeared to be made of bladed quills and a pair of rather nasty looking sharp claws where it should have hands. And one of those claws was buried in the chest of the boy they were sent to meet, piercing through his turtle neck and deep inside where the boy's heart and lungs would be. Even worse, what could only be described as "flames" were wisping up out of the wound as though the creature had set the boy's inner chest ablaze.

Most disturbingly, the creature's aura seemed somehow 'familiar' even though she had surely never encountered something so alien looking in her life.

Cordelia found her path to the gates somewhat eased by Monet's actions, though she still had to step around or over a lot of fallen people to make her way to the gates-- there were far fewer running directly towards her and pushing her away. Perhaps the other two would be able to deal with the problem before she even arrived.

Jubilee was buffeted by the winds. Luckily time around Miss Storm made that a tolerable affair. She looked at the creature and focused. "Ok I got an idea. I can guarantee it'll work and uhh could be super fu..reaking dangerous. So monet I need you to fly out the window  near that son of a biscuit the second you hear the boom to pull any fire or toxic smoke out in the draft. she focused. The professor had told her once she had the potential to be as refined as causing an aneurysm or as extreme as a nuke. So detonating inside the tube connecting it to the tank would be child's play... That could release toxic gas if it was toxic gas or blow up like a bomb if it was plain old oxygen.

Re: The Mysterious Student from Abroad

Monet made a note that flying fast was bad near normies. But then it seemed she hadn't flown fast enough. Her temptation to charge and punch was tempered by the realisation that there was a claw actually inside the boy. So... high levels of kinetic energy aimed at the creature were out.

However there was an obvious thing to do. Not slowing down she moved past the 'creature'... easier to think of it as a thing than a person ... and pulled on the hose. She was pretty sure her kinetic energy would be enough to either snap the hose or pull it free, and that distraction was certainly going to be safer for the kid. Assuming he could survive such a horrific wound.

"Sure" she shouted to Jubilation not sure the girl would hear her given the distances involved

Re: The Mysterious Student from Abroad

With the creature distracted, not only on his attack on the paralyzed boy, but by the various security officers trying to find a way in to attack without further harming the boy, it was easy for Monet to fly up and yank the mask off the creature's face.

Although rather than pulling the hose free, it had the effect of pulling the creature away from the boy. As the creature's claw was yanked from within the chest of the boy, a large spurt of blinding fiery light exploded out before the boy fell to his back, fire continuing to spurt out from the open wound on his chest.

Monet herself suddenly felt a large drain on her power after getting close to the creature, a drain that she'd only experienced previously around three particular people. The mask of at the end of the hose snapped off in her hand as the hose slipped free, falling to the ground and letting out a hiss of escaping gas.

The creature fell to its knees gasping and gagging, not only seemingly in need of the air, but possibly also feeling the same nauseating weakness that she herself was experiencing. Its face was obscured by that razor sharp gray hair.

The TSA agents began moving in quickly, one moving over to try to attend to the boy whose chest appeared to be on fire and three others moving in to try to restrain the creature and hold it to the ground.

A few others nearby continued to record the events taking place with their cameras.

Jubilee could continue her plan of attack, but if that tank exploded as she was expecting, there would possibly be six others in the radius of the blast.

Cordelia was able to arrive without any resistance as all of the attention of security was on the incident at hand. She could perhaps get the TSA agents and video recorders to back off if she used her powers, but perhaps she'd rather see how this plays out before intervening.

Monet gave a quiet prayer that the boy might survive. She'd tried, and failed, to cause problems to the creature without causing more damage, but at least she'd tried...

The weakness:  that was scarily familiar. She suspected she knew what it was, but that had only happened with her sisters. Still it meant she couldn't do what she wanted to do: the creature was grounded so it needed to be pounded... She had little faith that the TSA agents were going to more than get themselves killed if she didn't help. But how?

Looking around she snapped off a large part of banister and flew above the held down creature, pressing the end against him: holding him to the ground.

Re: The Mysterious Student from Abroad

The blinding light in the eyes of the creature caused it to howl in pain, lashing out wildly around it to push back against the hands trying to restrain it. With the metal bar that had been part of the banister, Monet was able to ward off the agents so that while got a couple nasty looking cuts that might need stitches, their lives were spared.

The gas escaping the hose on the tank was both colorless and odorless. Given that the creature was breathing it, it was probably that it was simply an oxygen tank. Although no one had gotten a good look at the creature's face, looking it over would be enough to reveal that the creature's discolored dark gray skin was covered with horrible scars that might bely damage that was more than just external. Though one could only wonder what could have scarred up a creature with diamond-like skin like this.

The wound on the chest of the boy on the ground belched out a sudden burst of 'fire', or whatever that fiery like energy was, as the agent came close causing her to leap back before she could attempt CPR. Somehow without continued damage was spreading and as the cloth on the chest of the boy opened up revealing the damage, it was clear that he was dead-- it seemed he had no internal organs, only a flaming skeleton for a torso.

Dark mist began to coalesce behind Monet, perhaps the prelude to more creatures like this one invading.

Out of the mist emerge two figures, one of them a girl who looks to have the same strange stone-like skin condition of the dark gray boy, but her skin and hair are all bright red. She has large eyes, blue but without any whites or pupils, and her body is wrapped in black bandages. She has a collar around her neck. While she had a very youthful appearance, that had to be overshadowed by hair hands and wild hair being made entirely of diamond-sharp blades.

Without a word she dashes towards Monet, aiming to tackle her to the ground-- but with every part of this girl's body being as sharp as a razor, even this sort of intervention could hardly be more dangerous.

The other figure that emerges seems to have also suffered truly horrific injuries, his body so covered with mummy-like bandages that barely any of his flesh can be seen under them. While his head is all wrapped up with no exposed mouth, he does have a large grotesque mouth on his chest with big sharp teeth. Although it was tough to say for sure, something about his short height and awkward build suggested that this creature had been a boy no older than the girls before whatever happened to have done this to him. Perhaps this is the end result of whatever the creature had intended for the boy they were sent to meet had he not been interupted.

Unlike the girl who seems to know her task right away, this second person pauses before the creature shouts and order.

"Drag the boy back!" gasps the creature between painful, haggard breaths. Although his voice was heavily distorted through the choking, it almost sounded as though he had a very similar Algerian accent to Monet. Although she had yet to get a good look at his face nor him hers.

The mummy-looking boy obeyed and started moving forward to grab ahold of the fallen boy with the fiery chest to drag his body back towards the mist.

Re: The Mysterious Student from Abroad

The mummy boy was driven back, at least initially, by the blast from Jubilee-- but it seemed that the bandages wrapping him were not dry and flammable enough to catch fire with just a short blast like that.

Upon grabbing ahold of the boy, she would find that this apparent fire, while warm to the touch, was nowhere near hot enough to singe skin nor did it spread on its own. In fact, as much as it resembled normal fire, it wasn't giving off enough heat to even keep someone warm on a winter's day.

Enough of the boy's body was missing that, while larger and at first glance one would think heavier than herself, he actually proved to be relatively light. Furthermore, as she grasped ahold of him the sound of pained groaning could be heard in her head. She'd had more than enough experience with psychics to know the sensation of her mind connecting with a telepathic message.

The mummy reeled back after a moment and moved as though to assault again before suddenly freezing in place and then just dropping to the ground with a thud, eyes open, still alive, but somehow just completely out of it as if it had just suddenly gone to sleep. This too was very reminiscent of what tended to happen to people when Jean Grey or Psylocke unleashed on them.

"Useless idiot..." growled the crouched creature as its minion was so easily taken out.

"Huh wonder if the Snowmomhas showed up." she mused as she skated back towards the car and either handing off the boy in her arms to Teach or, if he felt sonic screams were more useful than fireworks she'd get the boy into their vehicle and buckle him up climbing in beside him If Teach took the boy she'd skate back into the fray. It all depended on one simple interaction. Did banshee move past her or did he hold out his arms to take the boy. No words needed. And even though she wanted to go back to defend the team protecting their new student was as important as a brawl.

Monet in the meantime was in an aerial melee with the diamond skin, diamond clawed crazy thing that had emerged from the cloudy space. It was clear from the first moment that this was going to be difficult. Without her invulnerability Monet would have been torn to shreds. As it was her clothes were getting ripped into pieces while she tried to split her attention between keeping the mutant with the respirator trapped and fending off the crazy attacks, doing neither very well

Re: The Mysterious Student from Abroad

Jubilee's plan may have been a good one, but one that required nothing to interrupt her for a good 300 meters through a gate and a panicked crowd. And even where she was, there were still a dozen young people gathered around recording the whole event on their smartphones despite the clear and obvious danger. As Jubilee began dragging the boy, back her plans were interrupted before she even for more than a few yards. First by the woman TSA agent who approached her.

"Honey, be careful with him!" she reached out to try to pull Jubilee away from the flaming body. But, as she did, her gaze flicked down to the face of the boy's face and she went pale spitting out, "Oh my god!!"

The reason for her fear soon became clear as the totally, definitely dead body of the boy with the giant flaming hole in his chest somehow began to resist Jubilee and move on its own, trying to climb back to its feet. Surprisingly, despite not weighing much, it was still as strong as a well-built boy a good 8" taller than her would be expected to be.

Of course, it was impossible to know if this was an indication that somehow the boy was still alive or if he had become some sort of zombie and was coming back from the dead as a servant to the main creature.

Monet did not have much trouble swatting the creature back, after all-- while it could leap, it effectively didn't have any leverage once in the air. But doing so caused the grip on the beam holding the dark gray creature down. The red girl landed agily on her feet and moved into position to guard both the gray monster and the mummy while the gray creature scrambled to its feet and turned its gaze up to the sky.

The moment it laid its piercing red eyes upon her flying figure, the creature shouted out with the kind of fury that could only be deeply personal. "MONET!!!!"

Although the creature's face, discolored, scarred and solidified as it was could hardly be recognized anymore, once the creature had spoken up clearly, even through its rasps, hearing it say her name-- it was too familiar. A voice that had once been one of comradery and comfort, but had become one of dread ever since the night of a particular "car accident".

That pretty much confirmed it. Crap. Monet now had choices to make, and none of them were good

It came down to basics. Protect people. This 'thing' was a homicidal murderer, and the fact that she knew him made no difference. There was nothing she personally could do here. She wasn't a murderer unlike him, and there was no possibility of capturing him surrounded with so many minions. He would leave once his prey had got away she was fairly sure... not certain... but fairly sure.

With a blur she threw her makeshift banister through a window creating an opening moved over to Jubilation and picked up both the flaming zombie / boy / victim / whatever and Jubilation. "Marines we are leaving" she said as she began to fly them out the broken window

Re: The Mysterious Student from Abroad

The boy being dragged by Jubilee responds, but not in any way a typical human would have found normal. Instead a telepathic message in a deep London accent plays out in her head.

<<Thank you, gel. I'm feelin' better, but yer mate looks outnumbered.>>

The nearby TSA agent looks quite freaked out at this. And backs off further, "How-how are you doing that?!" she demands. Clearly she hadn't been spoken to by telepaths before.

Perhaps it was sensible that the boy could only speak telepathically. Although his chest was missing, there was still no telling how much higher or lower his missing body parts went and, even without a chest, it's not like he could talk without lungs. If he looked this way before the monster got to him, which might be why he was so fully covered from the nose down until the monster stuck its claws into his chest, then perhaps his body has developed telepathy to compensate for this. But he also clearly didn't have enough control over it to be selective about who received his messages.

Emplate was none too happy about his position. His target was being drawn away, and while he might have been able to deal with either the TSA agents or Monet or Jubilee without trouble, one of his minions was down and the boy had already awakened. Instead he coughed heavily before glaring daggers at Monet, but remaining in a defensive position behind the red creature. "Get in my way again and maybe I'll start considering some home-made meals!" He seemed to be as keen as herself to disguise just how they knew each other, but the implication of such a threat would be readily apparent to Monet.

Even as he spoke, smoke began swirling up around him and his two minions suggesting they were escaping. Even as they did, a couple of the TSA agents rushed forward to try to apprehend him. Chances are that unless something stopped them, they would get pulled to wherever this mist brought them and probably die or be turned into monsters themselves.

"Right Well we're supposed to look out for you so try to find the old guy standing around googling "Emma Frost Nude pics" and probably drinking while people run screaming around him and doing just absolutely nothing. he's our teacher and the driver."she quipped dryly and then began skating and grinding the rails back to Monet and the battle it took a couple minutes but using the railings let her circumvent the sea of bodies. She landed in the chaos and threw out two very large fireworks in between the tsa agents and the baddies. "This stuff is above your pay grade.... Run!" she shouted to them then focused and made a firework explode right by the ear of the guy glaring at Monet. Not trying to blow his head off but rather to deafen him, give him a headache and annoy him. "You guys aren't going to win this. Why don't you try your luck with the Great Lakes Avengers or Alpha flight."  she snarked skating to stand by Monet glaring at the enemy.

Monet wasn't about to get close to the masked figure and his minions. Especially given her now confirmed suspicions about who he was. There was no way she wanted to get pulled into the void that he was vanishing into. She did flash a rather worried smile at Jubilation. The words she used cut through her concern for a few moments but that humour didn't stop her doing what she had to do. Stop the TSA agents getting eaten

Placing the two other mutants on the floor with a 'I'll be back' she ripped a fire hose from the wall and used her super speed to entangle the TSA agents pulling them away from the void without getting closer than she absolutely had to.

Re: The Mysterious Student from Abroad

Jubilee's fireworks had been more than enough to ward the group of agents off. It successfully prevented them from getting caught in the void as it pulled the three baddies into darkness and out of the room before the mist itself vanished.

Monet tying them up and additional fireworks were more than was necessary, instead causing them to find themselves bound and cowering under the assault of explosions around them. The explosions did do a good job of finally getting the lookie-loos to finally become self-aware again and finally put down their phones and get away.

Only the woman who had been trying to attend to Jono was standing to put up a weak protest of, "Hey, wait. We need to ask you some questions..." though she said it so weakly, probably still freaked out about this whole incident, that it didn't sound like she would put up any real fight.

The new boy with the fiery hole in his chest shook his head and looked out towards the gate. He saw Cordelia making her way off and questioned, again using telepathy that everyone nearby could hear <<I'm guessing we're not stickin' 'round to answer those questions? I should get my bag before we go.>>

As any of them neared the exit gate they had passed through earlier would see that Banshee was waiting there looking quite nonchalant, as though he were just patiently waiting for the students to come back through. If he had just now arrived or had been standing their watching for half the struggle was anyone's guess.

"Thank you Jubilation" Monet said taking the jacket. "Maybe I need to invest in diamond laced underwear to stop it getting shredded. Not fun. That whole thing was horrible. And it's not over"

She responded with her own telepathy to the boy "I'm sorry I didn't manage to stop that." she didn't add that she'd tried her best. Not a lot of point really. "I hope we can find a healing mutant who can do something about that. Even if you are walking around ... it has to be uncomfortable. Re: The Mysterious Student from Abroad

The boy responds to Monet's telepathic message, though he can't select just one target and it radiates out of him. He brought his hand over the hole in his chest as he explained. <<You mean this? No worries, luv-- it's been like this for more than a year.>>

So the frightening injury wasn't the result of today's encounter at the hand of Emplate. It seemed he had just been dazed from having his energy siphoned. Although that left plenty of question as to how he ended up in this state to begin with.

The boy then wandered off for a moment to retrieve his large black suitcase from the baggage carousel and returned only a few moments later.

Meanwhile Sean was able to handle the one remaining TSA agent pretty well. Although the exact name and location of Xavier's school was still publicly unknown, the knowledge of the existence of the X-Men as an organization that trained mutants to handle terroristic threats by other mutants was. Only Monet was in earshot to hear him describe them as X-Men trainees and that the boy was a new recruit.

This was different from the details that had been given to the students. No one had ever said that going to the school meant signing up to be X-Men. In fact, the encounter today almost defeated the entire purpose of her having attended the school in the first place. But it was probably best to skirt the truth a little for the sake of not letting the government in on the precise details of their arrangement.

In the parking lot, upon bringing up the Uber app Jubilee would quickly recall that the trip from the school to here had been over an hour-- a 90 mile uber trip wasn't going to come cheap. She could buy herself an entire set of clothes for the cost of the trip.

Monet felt a tightness leave her. She'd had that natural worry that this was her fault. She'd tried to not make it worse, but in combat like they'd been in it was hard. And now it was clear she hadn't. So she could celebrate the fact they'd succeeded. With Jubilation's help they'd driven the attackers off and saved the people

"Monet"
she introduced herself "Some people call me M because apparently it helps to have a super hero name. What can I call you?"

Monet had a lot to think over. A lot. And choices to make. Hard ones. Most of all she had to decide on who she could trust. Trust was sometimes a hard thing. Saying 'I trust you like a brother' had taken on an entirely new meaning recently. Jubilation probably. She liked the other girl, and she'd kept her head. Cordelia... absolutely not. Emma... the same. The Headmaster she wasn't sure about. Jubilation was down on him, but she'd keep an open mind for now

Jubilee put the charge on the school account because she was, in her mind justifiably, upset at Banshee. This wasn't, other knowledge a simulation in cerebro or something. And Banshee to her knowledge didn't hire villains to attack to test their skills. Instead the trained Xman stood by and did nothing while people's lives were in danger. Shit like that was why Wolvie may have paid the Xmen membership dues but rarely actually spent time with them. He has to act on his beliefs not stand around. She bet if Wolvie was around he'd have broken banshee's nose already. But as mad as Jubilee was assaulting a teacher wouldn't help. She sighed I'm frustrated disappointment. She wondered if the reason she was sent here was because they thought she was just as incompetent as banshee..

The boy gave a nod of his head, substituting for a handshake or a bow as he sent out the telepathic message. <<The name's Jono. Jono Starsmore.>>

It seemed that, once he had regained his senses from Emplate's attack, he had become quite adept at communicating solely through telepathic messages-- even if he couldn't seem to selectively direct where the messages were aimed. It might lead one to wonder if sending messages and creating that cold fire were the extent of his psychic abilities or if he had only mastered what was necessary for survival.

<<D'you tangle with tall, dark and spikey often?>>

While this was the first time the students of the school had encountered Emplate, he had also screamed Monet's name. Jono would probably believe any explanation-- but answering questions from Cordelia, or worse, Jubilee would make it harder to lie.

She was also as pensive as serendipity seemed to be though likely for different reasons. She had fought with Wolvie, with the Xmen, with various other heroes before coming here. And Banshee just seemed.... Hopeless. In fact the more she thought about it the less angry she was and was more just.... Sad. If anything Cordelia's attitude made Monet feel a little better. Her father had taught her that you could tell a lot about a person by the quality of their enemies. Given her current view of Cordelia and her sister, being 'disapproved of' by Cordelia told her she was doing something right

She gestured to the car for Jono to get in. "I'm going to fly cover over head" she said to the others. "I don't want any more surprises..." She had bad memories of car rides and her brother. She didn't want to be reliving that again and again for the hour's journey back.

Re: The Mysterious Student from Abroad

Monet nodded in agreement with Jubilation. Not everyone was cut out to be a hero. And certainly Cordelia wasn't. She didn't find the 'errant accuasations' particularly errant. And at least she and Jubilation had made it totally clear to Cordelia that her behavior when it came to mind wibbling was unacceptable to them.

"I can do that for you" she offered to Cordelia helpfully "I know you don't get on with your sister. It might be better to have a third party talk on your behalf. Not just this topic if you don't want, but just in general"

Her own thumb met Jubilations. A 'thank you'. A little squeeze before Monet sat back in the Taxi. It was quite nice in some ways this car journey. Sure they had the tension with Cordelia but hopefully that had been resolved. And Jono and Jubilation seemed quite friendly. She was obviously particularly happy to have met Jubilation: someone she could rely on when the going got crazy

"So I don't think we've really introduced ourselves properly"
she said to the others "We have an hour. Why don't we use it. I'm Monet Yvette Clarisse Maria Therese St. Croix" she gave a little laugh "My parents" there was just a little shadow of sadness "just couldn't decide so in the end they decided to use all the names they liked. My sisters call me M, and I like that as a short hand. M or Monet both work. I was born and brought up in Europe, so I'm still suffering a little from culture shock over here. What about the rest of you?"

"Jubilation Lee or Jubilee. I'm a Cali girl born and bred. I've served with The X-Men and am like surrogate daughter to Wolverine. Though I heard after I started finding my own way he took another to fill the void I left in his heart." she said theatrically and then snickered.

Re: The Mysterious Student from Abroad

"Ah don't put yourself down like that." Monet said at hearing Jubilation's story about Wolverine "Or him. A person who loves you like a father can help more than one person. Him helping someone else, doesn't diminish his caring for you." she reached out and squeezed Jubilation's hand gently "I have two sisters. My father would do anything for any of us. I would do anything for them. I know that his love for them doesn't lesson his love for me." her voice went quiet "Now if only my brother was like that. Instead of... Sheesh ..." she shook her head obviously reliving bad memories

"Sorry. That was supposed to me being caring and supportive and I messed up again."

She squeezed her hand back. "Nahh that's an A Plus comforting. Unnecessary because I know deep beneath his cigar smoking, bar brawling, sweaty, hairy, grumpy exterior Wolvie is a big old softie. He looks after younger mutants doesn't want them to ever go through what he did." she said shivering a bit remembering Canada.

Re: The Mysterious Student from Abroad

"I think I don't want to hear what he went through" Monet said a little quietly "There's enough badness at the moment for me to want to avoid adding more. I'm glad he's taking his responsibilities seriously though" there was an unspoken 'unlike some people'.

She wasn't particularly down on Banshee: the jury was out on him as far as she was concerned. She'd wait to hear his story about what happened at the airport before judging. Emma though. She's seen Emma at work, and it had not been pretty.

"What about you Jono? I think all we know about you is that you have telepathy and come from Europe"

Perhaps unconsciously she hadn't removed her hand from Jubilation's. Jubilation was obviously stressing a bit. And not unsurprisingly so was Monet. Right now she needed the distraction and the comfort

Re: The Mysterious Student from Abroad

A couple minutes ago...

Jono reached his hand into his own chest, demonstrating that the "fire" that was contained within it did no damage to his own flesh when it came into contact nor did getting penetrated there seem to do any damage to him.

<Truth is, gel, I don't right know what I am. 'Swhy I'm seeking help.>>

After explaining, he wrapped his jacket around himself and zipped it up to hide his shame. Jono continued to follow Monet, not really certain what he where he was supposed to go while Banshee kept working things out with the authorities. The last thing he wanted was to have to answer any more questions from the normies about missing a big chunk of his body-- and it seemed like Monet was there to escort him to the school, so he did not need to question things any.

Now

The Uber driver picked up the three girls leaving Banshee and Jono behind, but it was going to be an hours journey to get back to the school.

Jono had been silent for several minutes of the drive. He was a bit lost in this entire conversation and, as he had become 'used' to communicating telepathically, it hadn't exactly become second nature.

<<I'm from Britain. Used t' be quite the looker if you'd believe it.>>

His psychic messages could be read as a bit jovial, though the sense that he is just trying to lighten the mood or disarm the tension couldn't be avoided. When one sends their thoughts, it is hard to mask their intentions.

<<But then one daymy gel 'n I get all hot and heavy in a coatroom and-- BOOM-- there goes my lower face and most a' my chest.>>

He brought a hand to the upper part of his zipped up jacket where they had seen the fire coming from earlier. His body language can be read as that of embarrassment and shame, but at least acceptance of what happened.

<<Cannot eat or drink since-- but somehow, someway-- I'm still 'live. Don't rightly know how I've not starved yet.>>

Re: The Mysterious Student from Abroad

"I'm glad you are OK with it, Jono" Monet said. She didn't give false pity and was going to treat Jono like everyone else now "I hope they can help you here. It's certainly a good place to try." she gave a little laugh at the 'don't know why I don't starve'. It was nice to have the mood lifted. And to see Jubilation react to it too. Changing the topic.

"That's something I've thought about a lot" Monet replied to Jubilation "A good question"

"See our powers aren't really mutations. Not in the normal meaning of the word"
Monet observed. "I'm talking about the powers themselves.... See in genetics when it comes to the expressions of a genetic trait there are two important things. They have fancy words. The fancy words are  Genotype and the Phenotype. They ideas are simple though. The 'Genotype' is 'does the ability to use special powers ability exist in you'. The Phenotype is 'how does it manifest'. Our shared mutation is the Genotype"

"Often it seems to me the powers we get are based on need and expectation as much as interest. Often it seems the Phenotype is determined by the moment of manifestation. Rather like the pop science view of Quantum stuff: observing an event locks its values into reality. Until that moment of need, or in the case of 'quantum' observing, then it's just potential. Any expectations skew the probability cloud significantly."

"I don't think that's a universal truth or anything. I wouldn't be surprised if something as complex as this has multiple factors. "

Re: The Mysterious Student from Abroad

Jono turns his head looking between the three girls for a moment as though trying to determine something before his gaze locks onto Cordelia.

<<If can stop that guy from attacking anyone else, we should do it.>> he announced psychically to everyone quite suddenly even though it didn't seem like anyone hinted they could.

As for Monet and Jubilation's debate he looked away, turning his gaze out the window and projected with thoughts oozing with sarcasm.

<<Way I heard it, we're all just the great-great-great grandkids of some ancient Egypt bloke who got aliens t' mess with his DNA 'n give him powers.>>

As much as he tried to sound as though he put no stock into such a story, there is a weird sense that someone he feels bitter towards told him this story specifically.

Re: The Mysterious Student from Abroad

"Well that's one theory Jono" Monet said with a laugh "And it might be true. As you soon as you bring in space aliens or fairies or ghosts, it's hard to work out what might be possible. And I think we now know space aliens are real... maybe the other two are as well"

But then the amusement faded as she thought about what Jono had said

"That guy... as you put it... is... is" she squeezed Jubilation's hand looking for support "my brother. I think. Marius. Marius St Croix. I didn't recognise him of course with that mask or anything. But his voice... I'm not certain, but there were other signs..."

"I don't know what has happened to him. And mostly I don't care. There are no justifications for doing what he has done. What I don't know is how to find him, how to stop him and how to hand him over to the Justice system. I'm not going to kill him for what's he done, but it is death sentence territory: and that's why we have courts"

"It's not really 'my problem'. Just because he's my brother who has gone ape shit cannibal crazy doesn't make it more my problem than a random stranger. We have the police for a reason: to stop people like us going vigilante."

"I need to find my sisters. Check if they are all right. I know he attacked you, but the coincidence of doing that when I am around... is too spooky for me."

"And we need to talk to the Headmaster and Headmistress. Make sure our defences are good. You saw him teleport..."

Monet's eyes were hard "Shariah law is very clear on this. It's not 'negotiable'. There are three levels of the law, and the topmost is the word of Allah himself. Marius has broken at least two of these top level laws, and that is unforgivable. The Word of Allah exists for a reason: to guide our actions. To tell us what to do when the times are hard like now. I will be praying a lot tonight. I will consult an Imman, although that is I suspect redundant. I already know what he will say"

"But we should talk with the Headmasters. You saw him. Marius has enslaved others. He can teleport. He kills and eats people. He is a serious threat."

"And yes he is a freaky as fudge"

"And I need to warn my sisters..."

Re: The Mysterious Student from Abroad

Jubilee blinked confused suddenly as they were back at the airport. She got back out of the Uber and looked confused. "Uhh what the hell why are we here?" she asked. "Yeah your school called and told me to drive you back to the airport. Sorry but unless you're paying yourself..." he offered as Jubilee sighed. she grabbed their bags taking it back to the school car and waiting for Banshee.

Jono, slipped from the uber more than a little confused by the whole looping back and the talk of the school in general but he shrugged it off. He fidgeted with his collar and face mask to make sure they were properly concealing his lower face before sticking both hands into his pockets and nodding his thanks to Jubilee for moving the bags and hovering slightly awkwardly to the side.

<<Yeah, no worries on my account. Can't say I 'member much about this whole hand in the chest thing 'fore you pulled me free, but I seem to have all my bits and pieces still. As many as I had when I got on the plane at least. Only thing I am sufferin' is some jet lag.>> His psionic message ringing with a slightly hollow 'tone', that perhaps he was more shaken up by the ordeal than he was trying to let on.

<<Yer welcome to borrow one of my coats if you want, luv.>> He projects, glancing to Monet before gesturing towards his bag with a tilt of his head. <<Though they may not be yer normal style. Had to make some fashion choices based on practicality, yer know.>>

"The bad guy" Monet didn't want to use words like 'my brother' "had minions. One of them had diamond sharp skin and claws. I was lucky and the claws couldn't get me, but they cut through the clothes I was wearing as though they weren't there." This was mostly for Jono's benefits as the others had seen it first hand

"If we face them again, I would all be rather careful of her."

Monet gestured at the jacket top she was wearing "I mean I like this, but it's yours Jubilation. It looks good on you, and anyway if I wear it too long it's going to get broken again. It might be worth asking the school what they can suggest. Maybe they have something like the yellow duster."

"I don't mind if you want to keep it. You do make it look good." she said with a smile as she sat back. Even with the pleasant conversation the ride back to school felt like it had been taking weeks. Or maybe she just wanted to get the debriefing over with.
