Homebrew Items

A couple new enchantments to make life easier in space. Things that seem needed to me, plus one or two that were around from other campaigns

The Hot Plate

A sheet of metal enchanted with Heat Metal.

An easy enchantment made more difficult in that only Bards and Druids know the spell. Still, a Minor Uncommon item for cost determination. Few if any special ingredients needed.

Usually set on top of a topless square brick oven, actually as stove top, griddle, and broiler element for the oven. Normal baking lower in the oven, if the over is larger than 2x2.

The command word is usually engraved in the top for safety.

This allows cooking on ships (sea or space) without need for fuel, and at lower fire hazard. In Space it also prevents the fouling of the atmosphere envelope burning fuel would cause, allowing for hot food and fresh bread (for a morale bump to an NPC crew)

Edit: the same effect could be done to an iron Pot to make a self heating Dutch Oven.

Locators

Using Find the Path, a Druid/Cleric spell and 6th level making for a Rare item.

This allows one to find a particular asteroid base it was enchanted to. Few special items, one of which is a a piece of the asteroid it finds. A good way to find a secret base lost in an asteroid belt.

Beacon

An item from the original rules. The Beacon shows up on Orrery displays.

Assume it to be a Very Rare item, as a Locator (above) is Rare and should be easier. Still, only ONE beacon is needed, and the cost is the responsibility of the person that wants to be found.

Possibly based on Project Image.

Under Construction

Gunpowder

Ok, not so much homebrew as more DMG partial rules expanded:

By cost, the powder in a keg is about 7 times the powder in a horn.

Assume a powder horn is equivalent to a bottle: it's .5 lb of horn, 1.5 lb of powder.

Let's call a keg equivalent to a Jug, or 16 pounds of powder and 4 pounds of wood (a very small barrel). Large quantities are cheaper.

A pistol uses 1 ounce of powder per shot, a musket (rifle, in this usage) 2 ounces for each shot.

A bomb would be a double sized vial, and about 1/2 a pound of powder.

Please note, this is not a promise you'll ever get gunpowder items, but the Giff have it, so I need rules for it.

Guns

What with Giff and Artificers, expanded rules are needed. Particularly for crafting.

Standard crafting times apply, and training in all relevant tools (and the tools) for a particular effect is necessary as there is a degree of precision required.

Gunpowder is easy. 25 gp of chemicals makes for 50 gp of gunpowder using Alchemy. That takes a week, but lesser amounts are possible.

A Pistol or Musket: A combination of Wood Carving and blacksmithing is required. Time is per Xanathar's.

Bullets: requires Pottery and Jeweler. Basically pour lead into precision clay molds. First step: Make the molds. Jeweler makes for the precision shape and size of the metal. Silver may be used at the usual mark up, of course.
