For out-of-character chatter...

Welcome, everyone! We'll probably be adding one or two more characters soon. Feel free to introduce yourselves here. I'm hoping to have everyone already know each other when the story begins.

Regarding character creation: You'll start at 1st level. Use the 27-point buy method to determine your ability scores. Don't roll for starting gold but take the equipment provided by your class and background. And feel free to sell (at full price) anything you don't want.

Let me know if you have any questions. And be sure to send me a private message when you have your sheet done so I can look it over.

Hey all! I've done 5e on a forum before but this is my first RPoL game.

Valto's a young wood elf from a small village he's just now venturing out from. He's pretty sure he's the best archer in the world.

@Dungeon Master - Are we supposed to know each other prior to the adventure or will you be bringing us together IC?

Would any language in particular be more common among hunters/poachers or traders? I need a third language for Valto and he's lived a pretty isolated life in a forest village. Alternatively, if we're supposed to know each other a bit do we want to pick a rarer language for all of us to train so we could speak semiprivately in public?

According to the first post, I believe the hope is we all know each other.

Rodan knows his native tongue as well as draconic.

Not sure, but i think that was for us, the players, to introduce ourselves to each other...  I could be wrong...

The characters should already know each other when we begin. They will be traveling along a road through a wooded area when the story starts. I'll leave the details of how you know each other and why you are traveling together up to you.

@Players   So... shall we say that we have been adventuring together for awhile? Or that we are newly met upon the road and traveling in the same direction? Something else?

Obviously, there would be different levels of backstory information we would know about each other depending on how long/well we know each other...

Well, I'll do a bit of a lore dump for Valto because he's kind of an open book. He'd probably tell everyone everything about himself even if we just met up an hour ago. I have my physical description done so I won't duplicate that here.

Valto's very much an eager kid out to prove himself despite his 103 years. He was a great hunter in his village and is out to see how he compares with the rest of the world and improve if necessary to keep his self-image as the best hunter in the world. He's proving slow to realize he's not quite as good as he thinks. A dex-based fighter, he'd rather use his bow at a distance but carries a shield and a machete-like elven rapier for close combat. Valto has the stereotypical elven preoccupation with nature and its preservation. He strives to follow and enforce the laws of nature, particularly his perceived place as an apex predator. His high wisdom is all about how the natural world works, not how people or civilization works. Basically he's a fighter with druid/ranger themes.

On this walk through the forest Valto feels very at home. He's probably scouting up ahead and reporting back often with every detail about what animal signs or remarkable plants he saw, sometimes bringing back snacks in the form of berries and nuts. If he's back with the party for any length of time he's probably trying to get pointers from Kitana about moving more quietly as I'm intending to take some rogue levels later on. When/if she gets annoyed by that he's asking anyone and everyone about themselves and where they're from and what it's like.

I also have a brief description up for Rodan.

The group would know that Rodan used to split his time between the forge and the temple of Moradin. He is 150 years old, but this is his first attempt at adventuring after being devoted to the well-being of his people. While he initially would have signed on as a healer/warrior, it would become clear that this dwarf is on the lookout for different designs from other cultures' metalworking to improve upon his craft.
