BIG EVENTS! |
Officiated yesterday by Orryn, priest of Gond, the wedding of Mrs. Miri Amblecrown and Mrs. Shandri Dundragon will be remembered as one of the strangest ever celebrated near the Dock Ward. The two human beauties run a technical shop on the border between the Southern Ward and our district, and for this reason, the ceremony has been animated by the performances of small funny automatons, including walking music boxes, self-starting fireworks and flying colorful artificial birds. In the end, the real surprise: a device capable of delivering slices of cake directly in the dishes of the invited people. Or, sometimes, directly in their faces. ************************************************** The night between 9 and 10 Alturiak witnessed a very unusual event. Anonymous sources confirmed us that a not-well-identified vampire handed over itself to a local agent of the Harpers, apparently repented for his wicked deeds and willful of starting a new (un)life. Also the identity of the fabled representative of the legendary society of heroes is more than obscure, but the informants of the Seagull can assure our beloved reader about the fact that she (or he?) surely belongs to the Academy. |

AT THE LORD’S PALACE |

Zholia Allies Cheered Lady and Lord Charivar Greeted by Lady Silverhand Before Parade, Grand Ball Dene celebrated the arrival of Zholia’s new delegation with aparade through the city streets and a ball at the Lord’s Palace. Lady Laeral Silverhand greeted Zholia’s chief delegates, the Lady and Lord Charivar at the North Gate, then accompanied them for the parade. Silverhand sat with Lady Charivar in a light blue coach while Lord Charivar — astride a white steed — rode alongside attired in a military uniform. “Our fondness for Zholia remains constant,” Silverhand said during the welcoming ceremony at the gate. “All the members of the Royal Family are cheered by the special relationship our two countries share with one another.” Zholia’s chief delegates personify the objectives for the mission. One is tasked with securing favorable trading terms while the other hopes to alleviate any concerns about its military strength. Lady Ninafer Charivar is a half-elf whose family had gained a fortune in running merchant caravans across the North. Her human husband, Lord Conoger Charivar, is a captain in the famed Knights in Silver, which is what Zholia calls its armies, and has been a military adviser to Zholia’s High Marshal Methrammer Aeasume. Dene went to considerable expense in staging the parade and ball. “Clearly, the Royal Family wishes to demonstrate to the other members of the Noble family that the ties with Zholia are unbroken despite that period under the delegates when things were, how shall I say it, somewhat strained,” says the gold elf lord, Elorfindar Floshin, a longtime observer of Western politics. “Good feelings aside, there are still the practical concerns. Surely many Nobles, even those favorably inclined, must wonder if Zholia will be a reliable country to partner with.” Dissolution of Luruar and the fragmentation of the Silver Marches have left Zholia in a precarious position, Floshin said. “Plainly, Zholia needs investors,” Floshin said, “and the West is very wild, so it needs more soldiers underarms. The Charivar delegation is here to make deals, and not just with our Sky King.” Across the city, minstrels and bard celebrated the Zholia delegation, especially those musicians who trained at the Gem of the West’s famed academies of music and magic. The halfling Tella Waddles, a songtress at the The Raging Lion in the city’s Crown District, was gleeful as she sang lyrics she composed for the occasion. “The Charivars favor the arts, so I hear,” she said. “That’s what Zholia means, a revival of epic storytelling and beautiful songs. We need more of it here in Dene.” At the Palace, Silverhand made another speech emphasizing the values shared by the countries. Absent in Silverhand’s remarks was any reference to her familial connection. Zholia's ruler is a nephew — the half-elf son of her sister, the late High Lady of Luruar, Alustriel Silverhand. |

AT HARBORWATCH TOWER |
---|
Watchful Order Convenes Lady Master Szeltune Faces Leadership Challenge From Crown District Book Collector Admiral Willen Laurensia of Hersuf accepted a commision by the Royal Family to command a Coastal Patrol tasked with protecting shipping in the waters off Burna. Laurensia was presented with a uniform sash and a braided bicorn hat to commemorate the occasion at Harborwatch Tower overlooking the Harbor Docks, which was in Dene. “I gladly pledge myself to this task of securing the sea lanes for lawful shipping between the great cities of Burna.” Laurensia said to assembled dignitaries and guests. Ulder Ravengard, grand duke of Hersuf, presented Laurensia with the decorations. Laurentia has long been an advocate for greater naval cooperation between the Burna cities of Dene, Gythgenon and Hersuf. Although arming ships so they can do battle against great creatures of the deep was also part of Laurensia’s plan — his main goal was to create a strike force that would defend merchant traffic, such as repulsing pirate vessels out of the drink or match raiding frost giant ships such as the Krig. Apodes delivered the first ship of the new fleet. The Endurance. A three-masted barquentine, it will serve as Laurentia’s flagship. In fact, Apodes's Lord Dagult Neverember had been a honorary nobility back when he was a merchant in Dene, and was the one handling the management of Dene's council. The previous Council Head of Dene. This was when Laurensia first proposed the idea for a Coastal Patrol. Neverember was in attendance for Laurentia’s commissioning ceremony. With a vintage bottle of white wine, Neverember performed the launching ceremony that included smashing the bottle on the hull for good luck. Neverember’s successor for the lead council head is, Lady Laeral Silverhand, who also attended the ceremony. Dene's first contribution to the fleet, an as-yet-unnamed barquentine, is expected to complete construction at the Dene shipyard in another two years. In the meantime, Dene has designated the Harborwatch Tower as the Coastal Patrol’s headquarters, despite still being use as the anchor point for aerial ships. “We are not just pirate hunters,” Laurensia said. “I anticipate the patrol will be given tasks of exploration and rescue. I intend to hire on adventurers for this work.” |
DENE ATTACKED!! |
---|
Read all about it! The Queen just got attacked! There were Masked Hooligans that attempted to assault the queen's public walk just the other day. Most citizens cry out in anger at the attempt. One would comment, "This is a disgrace, and I would like to see every last one of them killed for such an affront. Well, not kill. Just take their heads off so we can put them on spikes around her palace! " And when we asked another, "That'll show 'em what happens when you mess with the queen. But seriously, though. We need to get more guards. More security glyphs too. And maybe some mines in case this becomes a trend." As was dictated by witnesses, they saw the queen getting saved by a Stayr Adventurer who has yet to be identified. A few took noticed of their Copper badge and that would mean it was a G ranker adventurer. Is this the the rise of an upcoming powerhouse within the adventurer rankings? Will this new adventurer compete with the likes of Alerya and Malise? Or did people just mistaken her rank and she's a high ranker in disguise. Time will tell! and our hard working journalists will make sure to dig up the truth. We are still looking to hire for more by the way. On another note, the Western gate and Northern gate got attacked as well at the same time when the Queen was assaulted. Coincidence? No, ofcourse not. Eye witnesses reports that they got attacked by same masked individuals that had attacked the queen. The northern gate lost a lot of lives but due to the efforts of a band of adventurers who were fortunately there at the time of the incident, they were able to mitigate casualties by the western gate. Examinations and thorough interrogations of people involved are underway in learning the identities of these attackers but when we asked the Skywardens for comments in regards to their progress; They were unfortunately adamant that they have nothing to remark until their investigation is over. |
7th PRINCE SPOTTED OUT IN PUBLIC AGAIN |
---|
In a more happier news, a few people have caught glimpse of the enigmatic son of Queen Olivia strolling about in the crown district with an identified girl. If reports are given credence, then the 7th in line, prince was spotted entering the Ink and Paint Club and left after a few hours. No confirmation whether he bought anything but sighting did confirm that he was with someone. As well all know the prince is a well known figure within the public eye and in the adventurer rankings. He also has a significant authority within the Academy of Arcane Preservation and Historical Research. He was ranking up as fast as Alerya was when she started, and even made a few records of his own. But due to an accident that had happened a few years back, it had scarred the upcoming star from further participating in quests. He became less active in the guild and was reported to have retreated back to his research and studies within the academy. For almost half a decade now, we haven't seen or heard from the prince until today. It's not a common occurrence for the young prince to be seen out of his tower, much less unaccompanied by his bodyguard and walking about without using his porting capabilities. And since the prince has been spotted traveling with someone, rumors and theories have sky rocketed. Most would think that that these two are dating. But now more gossips have occurred on who this person might be; Where they a princess from a different kingdom? One of the other region's noble houses? Whatever maybe the case, there is no denying he's taken an interest in this person, who seems quite lovely if the descriptions are true. |

AT SULFURWOODS |
---|
Deadly Airship Crash House Lyrandar Elemental Airship Nisos Downed Near Sulfurwoods Witnesses described the scene as pandemonium. In the mid morning hours, an airhorn alarm sounded in river port which informed everyone in the vicinity that there had been an accident or crash of an airship within the regional air space. Presumably to alert the populace to some kind of malfunction, or nearby accident. Which prompted several smaller airship to fly up and scout the region for this 'supposed' alarm. Travelers and Merchants traveling down Ivory Road saw The Nisos at a distance fired several red flares before its elemental ring flickered erratically and finally exploded, breaking the ship in half. The momentum carried the two halves into the Sulfurwoods, preventing visual confirmation of the crash at the time of writing. According to official calculations, the shipwreck must be located not far behind the thick mist and sea of dead trees. A rescue party consisting of upright Adventurers set out immediately to search for survivors. However, not many of the first responders returned from their mission. Those who survived reported that they did not find the crash site. Instead, they encountered unspeakable monstrosities, mayhaps flocking to the crash site, alerted by the noise. Cause Yet to Be Ascertained Lyrandar technicians and artificers are on their way to the site to determine the cause of the reported explosion and subsequent destruction of the airship. Rumors about sabotage and neglect of maintenance erode trust in House Lyrandar‘s ability to guarantee safe air travel. Would-be looters, interested in the debris left behind, are warned by authorities to stay clear. The debris could be dangerous, is House Lyrandar property, and must be examined by experts. Official Statement: House Lyrandar published the following statement; “House Lyrandar is deeply saddened by the recent events. We value the safety and well-being of our passengers above all else and pledge to increase our efforts to ensure that no such thing will happen ever again. House Lyrandar will spare no expense to save the lives of survivors and to reclaim the remains of those who have tragically died during the incident. Therefore, we offer free transportation and a sizeable reward to anybody willing to participate in an expedition into the Sulfurwoods. Time is of the essence. Interested parties should make their way to the nearest airship port or lightning rail station as soon as possible. More information will be given on site.“ |

AT VINES HAMLET |
---|
Massacre by the Hundreds!! Hamlet of Vines in the East attacked by Marauders and Ghouls Horde of ghouls attacked the Hamlet of Vines and killed scores of villagers yesterday. Augmenting the marauders' strength were numerous magical conflagrations known as living spells. The attack began at noon and continued throughout the night. By morning, the village had fallen, and most of its people lay dead. At first light, however, the marauders slipped back into the Dead-Gray Mists on the border of the Severed Mountains. This was all reported and confirmed by the investigation team led by the Guildmaster Fontana Emberdine. Rumors have suggested it was no mere ghouls but a beholder that was rampaging the streets, but most survivors did not see the entire event and the almost everyone fled as the situation went dire. Witnesses accounts were mix, some would say that there were several assailants while a few would say it was just one massive creature, a beholder or an abberation similar to its concept. As much as the witnesses account were confusing at best, Fontana's team was able to confirm thst it was indeed done by Ghouls. Unfortunately for the Hamlet, this was a huge loss. Among the slain were local lord Orina ir'Ghalaro and the staff of a chapel devoted to the Church of the Silver Flame. Most of the survivors were villagers who had taken shelter into the Everforst in the west at the first sign of trouble but half of the population weren't so lucky. From the Adventurers Guild's Prominant Guildmaster, Fontana's reports and preliminary investigation they have deduced that the marauders included a massive construct known as a cadaver collector. The name seems to be something of a misnomer, however, since the construct doesn't limit its harvest to corpses. A few witnesses have coraporated the reports and have said they have seen such a autonomous contract that looked like a empty Skywarden construct to be in the vicinity during the chaos. The dastardly construct were accompanied by what assumed to be marauder elites. Three females of diffrent rapports: one to be a half elf, a high elf and a human. All women were indetified to be with the construct during the incident. Unfortunate due to the chaos, there was barely any information in regards to the said suspects. Rhennek ir'Tallon, the region's representative to Vine's Parliament, offered condolences to the families of the slain and promised that their deaths would be avenged. "I visited Vines just last year for the apple harvest festival," ir'Tallon said, "and never have I seen a more pleasant hamlet. All our hearts go out to the families of those who lost their lives in this senseless attack." But ir'Tallon did not stop with mere sympathy. He indicated that within the week he would bring a plan before Parliament to put more soldiers on region's border and clean up most of the bandit and marauder camps near the west. Periodic incursions into the Severed Mountains are a fact of life in far western reaches, but survivors indicated that this attack was another matter entirely. "Once or twice a month, some nasty beast comes out of the mists -- a carcass crab or some other horrible creature these were not ghouls but some beholder attack," said guard captain Aorolo Roklins. "But this attack was far beyond the norm. If these attacks were truly made by the marauders? Why is fairly unorganized and chaotic. They are known for systematically bringing the Foret Belver last month with merely a company of men. Why the exaggerated fanfare? This is all too suspicious." When reached out to Lady Fontana in regards to these theories and statements from the captain, the Guildmaster gave no further comment in the matter except made clear that her investigation team will do a follow up if they do find anything. |
Political Discourse in the Aftermath of the Golem Attacks!! |
---|
A few days ago we reported on the destruction that the three Golems from the north made onto the north gate and the outer sections of the agricultural district. Even after the days of the siege and the subsequent victory over the sudden assault onto our fair city, morale here in the relief areas are an all time low. Early situation reports by the authorities have indicated that the Golems came from Sulfurwoods from a newly discovered ruin that had just recently propped up near the dead forest. Investigation teams and a company of D rank adventurers have been sent out to subjugate and clear the ruins of further dangerous factors and so far there had been no issues in their expedition. Today, parliament has given permission to use the Skywarden 7th divison, who are still in standby status, to immediately begin preparations for a forced march to bolster the North Gate and place the northern agricultural district to a state of martial law. Army officials confirmed yesterday. Rumors that Academy's War Council would redeploy the Sanctum floating fortress to the Sulfurwoods border could not be confirmed at present time. Such a move would put pressure and unease towards Hersuf and would give giants on Mountainspine a reason to push south into the region. Sanctum being a fortress of power that was erected a hundred years ago by the academy and made to patrol the entirety of the norther mountain ranges known as the Mountainspine have never been redeployed somewhere else since its first established route. Should a redeployment was really given, this will be the first time since it's activation that Sanctum would be seen from Dene's horizon when it properly settles in Sulfurwood. But due to this chaos, further debate is delaying any progress and most likely will take time. Due to unrest within the parliament's court. Critics of the crown's Droaam policy decried the redeployment of the Sanctum and its future defense plans even as they expressed support for the Skywarden soldiers to be regrouped and redeployed to diffrent parts of the region was a given. "When the Sky King made the northern giants withdrew from the region eleven years ago, we all worried that a situation such as this one might be the consequence should we follow through in leaving the north vulnerable again." said Baroness Avarulao, one of the citizens in disapproval of the movement. Baroness Avarulao is also known to be serving as Adjunct Minister for the Dispossessed of Western Branches. "What was once our beautiful homeland is now a breeding ground for endless waves of horrible monsters. We need not have the Fortress move and further fund the Adventurer's guild and bolster our armies" In a strongly worded speech before Parliament, Avarulao advocated the launching of a "cleansing crusade" to wipe out the creatures of contempt and reclaim eastern regions from pirates, worms and abberations. Provisions of the Unity Act of 988 prevent the Royal Ledger from reprinting her statement in detail. |
WATERWATCH WATCHMAN THE ILLUSTRATED POLICE AND SPORTING NEWSPAPER |
AT THE CENTRAL PARLIAMENT HALL |

Infrastructure Vexes Council Lady Silverhand sagely guides Noble Families in Discussion I’m so excited about the festival; Lightsinger plays will be real treat during their showcase and I will have a Zinar's Mead in a Can to enjoy the show. — Hail and well met, neighbors of and visitors to Dene. I'm Bonnie Blue, I'll be the one writing this column. Sorry about the quick quip before, my Zippy Quill decided to say what I wanted. Definitely not sponsored. Anyways, like many of you, I’m assembling my finest outfit to wear during the upcoming festival in a few months. It’s going to be a splendid affair. Unlike you, I will be working. A reporter is always on the job. But fret not for me. I’ll have a front-row seat for some of the biggest events! There will be Lady Silverhand’s hearing of the petitions, the noonday feast at the market streets, the joust at the Field of Triumph and the Noble’s Ball in the Crown district. My fitting for my ball gown will be a few weeks from now. I’ve been waiting so long to buy a new dress. I’ll feel like a princess! What I will miss is sure to be a delightful presentation. According to a priestess of Erathis, she says that the Lightsinger Theater Company will be having popular presentations of one-act comedies in each of the District throughout the day. These minitroupes of players will be in full costume and will appear in undisclosed locations — anywhere they see a large crowd gathering — and provide entertainment. That will be a treat, so be on the lookout and be ready to receive the herald’s announcements as to each performance! Now I have been talking too much about the festival, let us focus on today's article! I was lucky enough to be invited to attend the Lords Court's monthly delegation. Weighty matters of state! As we all know, relations with other countries along the borders, for instance, often occupy the Royal Family and most of their schedule. But upon Lady Laeral Silverhand’s insistence, they took up another matter that could pave the way to improvements around the city during today's delegation. I'll write to you specifically what was said; “Frankly, my lords, I am tired of replacing the spoked wheels on my carriage because of all the potholes they hit when I am criss-crossing the city performing my public duties,” Lady Silverhand said. “I find the cost prohibitive, I can’t imagine the hardship this is placing on the hardworking citizens of Dene. It is time to embark on a project to repave streets that are in need of repair.” The other Royal members of the family were quick to show their ascent. In council, the members banged their staves on the floor or shouted “Here, here!” in agreement. Yet, the motion was immediately met with opposition in some quarters. “How shall we pay for this, Lady head?” came a repeated query. “Many of your tax policies are already quite unpopular. Do you wish to loan a few more coins against our King?” “We shall find a way to pay for this my lords,” Silverhand said. “Good roads are the key to a strong defense of the city," another council member said. “Moving troops and equipment swiftly can be crucial during an attack or a siege.” “You mean it allows nobles to swiftly leave the city for their country estates in an attack,” corrected another. “You might find that if merchants could see immediate improvements outside their places of business, something that would improve traffic and customers, they might be agreeable to a slight sales tax increase,” another different council member would say. “You’re already killing business with taxes on imports from shipping,” the previous one shouted. “Now you’re talking about taxing the same item again because it was purchased? Have you all gone mad?” “I shall instruct our ministers to do a thorough accounting, perhaps find inefficiencies that can be corrected,” Silverhand said. “Shall we seek money from savings first before we discuss other revenues? But I would be firm on this point, our streets must be repaired, improving on the paving if we can.” “What we need is damn fewer streets,” one of the others grumbled. That brought a round of laughter. “You might not like to hear this my fellow council lords,” one of the others said. “But the next item on the agenda is bridge repair.” That elicited a round of groans from all around the table. |
