Out for the supplies

The trip is relatively short, as going to the 'coffee hut' aka-The White Rabbit is very close by. Like the rest of the city, the place is in poor repair. There is even a window broken in the back of the shop. However, like most other places, it seems quiet as the grave. Some of the football posters on the windows held by a cartoon white rabbit seem hopelessly out of date. More of a fond memory, now more mocking than comforting.

Out for the supplies

Ryder drives a circuit around the hut and brings the Range Rover to a halt. With the engine off, the silence rushes in. He imagines they all saw the tag Zoe sprayed on the wall, but he doesn't mention it. He can only guess that LS is a relative, and the numbers mean something significant. Given the world they live in, most likely a death.

You may not have feelings, Ryder, but other people do.

"First stop, coffee."

He gets out of the SUV. The place is a ghost town, like so many places he's seen. There are pockets of survivors in Newport, he knows, but if any are around here, they're keeping a low profile. It's completely silent. The heavy door closing echoes through the stillness. He slings the AR-15 over his back and his eyes scan the surrounding buildings. It's obvious business isn't doing so well since everyone died, but you never know when things might pick up.

He crosses to the coffee shop and peers through the window. "You after anything in particular, Sean, or is this a bulk order?"

Out for the supplies

An uneventful trip is a relief. I still can't shake the sheer amount of silence in the world. The once-bustling downtown area is desolate and empty, aside from debris in the streets and otherwise barren landscape. The building in front of us one of the competing businesses in town and frankly, they had some great stuff here before the Domes. The rabbit theme clearly ties into Lewis Carroll's book and the cafe played it up as much as possible- just enough not to receive some kind of C&D letter from a law firm. If any survivors were obsessed with coffee, they'd come here for freebies, no doubt. I smirk at the thought, but who cares now?

"Well, this is the White Rabbit." Once Ryder parks the SUV, I turn back to everyone and reach back, grabbing my large, empty duffle bag. "I'd like to go in to look for food and such, but I'd like someone to come with me. I think it'd be wise to have the rest on watch- outside the Cafe- to look for Shamblers or other folks."

I step out from the passenger seat and gently close my door, looking over to Ryder with a firm nod. I glance around for any sign of Zoe but turn back to Ryder and the rest of our group. "I don't think we can be too picky about the order. Let's check out what's here and then move on to the next stop. I don't want to linger more than absolutely necessary and draw unwanted attention."

The front door is closed, and the front of the building looks to be in solid order, aside from litter and other street debris. I approach with some hesitation and cup my hands around my face as I peer in through one of the dirty front windows, looking to see if anyone- or anything- might be inside. It's at this moment in time that I realize I don't have a weapon on me. Maybe I'll find something along the street or inside the Cafe. I smirk to myself at my stupidity. "Well, I can't see too much inside. Let me take a closer look."
