Out for the supplies
An uneventful trip is a relief. I still can't shake the sheer amount of silence in the world. The once-bustling downtown area is desolate and empty, aside from debris in the streets and otherwise barren landscape. The building in front of us one of the competing businesses in town and frankly, they had some great stuff here before the Domes. The rabbit theme clearly ties into Lewis Carroll's book and the cafe played it up as much as possible- just enough not to receive some kind of C&D letter from a law firm. If any survivors were obsessed with coffee, they'd come here for freebies, no doubt. I smirk at the thought, but who cares now?
"Well, this is the White Rabbit." Once Ryder parks the SUV, I turn back to everyone and reach back, grabbing my large, empty duffle bag. "I'd like to go in to look for food and such, but I'd like someone to come with me. I think it'd be wise to have the rest on watch- outside the Cafe- to look for Shamblers or other folks."
I step out from the passenger seat and gently close my door, looking over to Ryder with a firm nod. I glance around for any sign of Zoe but turn back to Ryder and the rest of our group. "I don't think we can be too picky about the order. Let's check out what's here and then move on to the next stop. I don't want to linger more than absolutely necessary and draw unwanted attention."
The front door is closed, and the front of the building looks to be in solid order, aside from litter and other street debris. I approach with some hesitation and cup my hands around my face as I peer in through one of the dirty front windows, looking to see if anyone- or anything- might be inside. It's at this moment in time that I realize I don't have a weapon on me. Maybe I'll find something along the street or inside the Cafe. I smirk to myself at my stupidity. "Well, I can't see too much inside. Let me take a closer look."
