Chapter 1: Scene 5A: Old Contacts

Mosii climbed onto one of the chairs and Piper herself hopped down to stand on the table.  She gave a nod of thanks to Sheldon as he offered up refreshments and as he surmised, retrieved an appropriately sized cup from her belongings to dip into the larger vessel to sample the beverage.

Mosii leaned in and sniffed the normal sized glass and made a face at what he smelled.  The cat lifted a paw and brought it forward towards the glass as if to bat the offending liquid away, but refrained after a corrective swat on the paw from Piper and a look to behave.

She didn't know much of the Infernals the pair spoke of.  She thought all the cultists they'd seen so far had been humans.  Though perhaps they'd learn more as they continued looking into the situation.

Regardless, she sipped on her cup as the pair talked through the arrangements for additional support Hunter was seeking.

Chapter 1: Scene 5A: Old Contacts

"Perhaps you are right about the Infernals, not all of them are involved. But a large group of them arrived some months ago, and that is when the problems began. I entreat uou, guard your tongue when dealing with them"Hunter warned.

"As to can you help me, why yes. I require more guns: a blunderbuss, another pistol. Some Armour wouldn't go amiss. If you have that, great, otherwise a line of credit at the iron Anvil."

"I also need information on where these infernals are staying. Also... information... is anybody quietly buying up businesses and taking advantage of the trouble, as I suggested before? Who? As much information on them as can be found."

"And it would be good to have an appointment to talk to somebody high up in the Kings authorities if that can be arranged. A letter of introduction might suffice."

"This is affecting your trade, your business and the entire city, and the Guard isn't coping. We have made more progress in two days than they have in a month.  And if we can turn this around, there is profit aplenty available to you."

Chapter 1: Scene 5A: Old Contacts

Sheldon looks at his cousin with a raised eye brow, "Getting weapons and army can do. The king? That's going to be a much harder task. Give me a few days on the weapon. I can get you some armor today. Weapons are much harder to come-by as the city requires certain permits that I don't typical deal in."

He grabs a set of armor and hands it over to Hunter. "I can tell you that in order to see the king himself you are going to have to show proof of something. Even minor amounts of information will likely get you seen by the king, he is a good fellow although a bit on the law and order side of things."

"What about the head of the town's guard, or one of their high ranking officers?"  Piper asked.

"I'd think that may be less of an effort compared to getting an audience with the King, and might be more immediately useful as the guard are already aware of at least some of what's going on and working on the problem.  That way we can make sure they have all the information available without having to chance whatever random guardsman we can find getting it passed successfully back through whatever chain of command he might have."

Sheldon looks at the little mouseling. "If and that's a big IF, you can convince them that they are bringing something to the king that's worth his hassle he will look into it. All this talk, do you have any proof or have you seen something you can give to the guard? If so, you might be able to show him proof that something is happening. Heresay only gets you so far. If you bring them evidence or even evidence to the kings royal advisors, I doubt that they wouldn't listen to you."

Chapter 1: Scene 5A: Old Contacts

"That's fair" Hunter said and tapped thoughtfully on the table. "What if we can demonstrate how the rats are made?" he asked. "And, well, there's something else we found but I don't want to mention it because it's gone now, and I don't want to get your hopes up."

"But say we can make another giant rat, to show how it is done. What do we do, just walk up to the Guard at the gate and ask to see the Captain of the King's Guard? Or do we need an appointment? Would a letter of introduction help?"

Chapter 1: Scene 5A: Old Contacts

Sheldon looks concerned by Hunter's idea.

"Well that sounds possible. A letter would likely work but I think if you haul a giant rat to the kings guard, he might be prone to asking why. I tell you what, let me find some parchment."

Sheldon digs through some of the dirty shelves before landing on a quill and some parchment. He scribbles something down and hands it to Hunter and Piper.

"This is the one of the king's many personal advisors. You bring him proof and I can guarantee that he will have you in front of the king swiftly. But you are going to need proof. Not just words, something that can show him what he is going to run into. Only then might he consider this threat a true problem for the kingdom."

On the parchment it states a street name and the name:

Hunteer peered at the parchment. "Thank you Sheldon, that is most helpful. Well. We must be getting out of your way. Thank you for the armour too, it's beautiful. I presume you have a fitting room somewhere."

"It's been very good to see you again!"
he said, rising from his seat.

[Private to GM: My Savage Worlds book has leather +1, chain +2, plate +3 (and plate is very expensive). I'm thinking something equivalent to chain and identical in game terms (same coverage and armour value), but a lot more modern and elegant and subtle ie not a norman knight off to the crusades. Some mixture of brigandine and padded arms and legs with a combination of jack chains and splint.]

Piper finished her cup and gave a wave to the man.  "Nice to meet you, and a thank you for the hospitality."

She hopped back on Mosii and then looked to Hunter.  "I'll wait for you by the door while you get yourself ready, yeah?"

Hunter smiled at the mouseling. "Excellent, I will be there presently."

A short time later, strange muffled noises were coming from a small room off to the side.
"Ouch. Watch what you're doing, you clumsy oaf. "
Thump. Bang.
" No, you've got it upside down. Look, I'll show you again. See, they've got arming points, these tie on to these jack chains.  And the other end of the chains goes to this splinted pad, that's the vambrace, see, hey are you even paying attention? Wait, what are you doing? Stop that! Stop that!"
"Shiny."
"Yeah, but you can't pull the rivets out! They are the only thing holding it together!"
"Shiny."
"No! NO! Stop eating it!"
Thwack!
"HOOooWwwOoRRRoooLLL!"
Clonk
"Ow! Owowow! Shit! Don't bite me! Don't bite the armour, you'll ruin it, you crazy destructive bloody hobgoblin!"
"I no hobgoblin. Hobgoblin big an mean an eat you up. I Grishnakh goblin, small and smart and fast."
"If eating small metal plates is smart, I hate to think what stupid is."
"Shiny."
"Here, come here. See, the armour point on the brigandine ties onto the jack chains, and they get strapped onto the sleeves. And you strap the vambraces on too. Right you do the other side."

pause

"What have you got going on there? That looks a bit big. They're the thigh pieces, they're part of the legs, not the arms!"

Chapter 1: Scene 5A: Old Contacts

Eventually, Hunter reappears looking rather resplendant in a tan coloured greatcoat with a studded leather vest of midnight blue beneath, the steel rivets shining like stars in the night sky. Rows of rivets and steel also ran down his legs. The scabbarded blade of a rapier poked out through a slit in the coat, and he had two pistols pushed through his belt.

Jenkins stood sullenly behind with the backpack on her back.

Hunter swept his hand rakishly through his hair. "Well! I feel less vulnerable to being bitten by rats, anyway. Off to the castle to meet with the others. I wonder, would it be possible for your feline friend to catch a rat on the way? A regular one, not a giant one. And alive, it needs to be alive."

"So how did you come to this town anyway? What are you looking for?"

GM, can Hunter exchange the short sword for a rapier, and aquire a buckler as well?

If you're interested, he's wearing something similar to what this guy has.

"I'm certain we can procure a rat if needed."  Piper stated after a moment of consideration.

As to Hunter's other question she answered, "It wasn't my intention to visit, but circumstances were such that I found myself aboard a ship bound for Stormharbor.  I hadn't ever been outside of Everwood, so it seemed a shame to not see what there was to see before trying to head back home."

Sheldon looked at Hunter up and downn, "Armor looks good on you!"

OOC: Sure on the weapons. The max armor Sheldon carries is chain mail. Which is pretty expensive but not the level of plate problem is, it requires d8 in strength. The highest level of armor you can wear is studded leather which would be +2.

"An enchanting place by most accounts I've heard from visitors upon their first visit."  Piper recounted.

With regards to the newest inventions she could only comment, "I do not know of any widespread adoption of such things, whether from rejection or lack of trying, and I believe they're still mostly thought of as curiosities brought in by traders and visitors from the other lands.  So while I don't believe there's any edicts against them, I don't know whether trying to introduce them for sale or use would meet with any success."

To Piper he said "Oh, I wasn't planning on selling anything there. It's just I've heard some people say that magic doesn't work very well around technology, and magic can cause technology to misfire or act strangely."
