Library of the Mind's Eye

"If time is short, perhaps we should learn different spells to give us wider knowledge and then learn from each other when time permits? What think you gentlemen?" Igor asks the others.

He then says to Grauwker, "I would indeed love to learn the secrets of your lands Grauwker, I will do my utmost to pass on my knowledge to you all as well!"

Who wants to learn what? I'm taking Cantrip, but will gladly teach at earliest opportunity if wanted! I'll let you guys pick then take what is left of the rest if you want?

In reply to Sanstree Roust (msg # 32):

"My teacher told me about these undead you speak of, how their life energy had been drawn from them and then Templar magic gifted by the Sorcerer Kings was used to reanimated them, some still with intellect and even some with free will.

He said the spell he taught me, 'Chill Touch' was good against them, would you like me to teach it to you?

I already know the Cantrip and Burning Sands spell."
He looks at your faces a moment... "Oh, you said Burning Hands when you read thd titles, I don't do that one, it would suck too much life energy from the surrounding land."  He would learn eventually.

Lorian

I think I will go with the Color Spray, Magic Missile and Identify from Igor.  We will have plenty of time to teach each other spells on the road.  I would be interested in learning all that are available to start amassing a library of sorts.  For my own.  My kind have trouble finding others willing to share what they have.  So I will open my books to all willing to share.

Excuse me Librarian do you have a room that time slows in that we could use to learn spells.  A slow time chamber was used in my homeland by the Mage College to allow young Mages to learn new spells and still have a social life out side of the school.

"We are now in the sea of chaos of limbo, the time is slowed at the moment....however the stopping of time takes a vast amount of energy.  I believe the guildmaster can do such a thing, but not for the learning of spells.  Once you obtain orders you will have a "day" more or less to get everything in order."

He addresses all present "If you draw your energy carefully and don't destroy the land needlessly, then I shall teach you what I know, some spells may seem strange to you however.

I already know Cantrip from my lands, if yours is the same, I would be less reticent at sharing.  I don't sense that any of you are Defilers or Templars, I suggest you tell me now if you are, I can help you find the right path."
To others this may seem nonsense but to him it was vastly important.

He hopes the others understood what he was saying, he found it weird that he could understand them yet they were all from a different place than he, even on his own plane he didn't understand everybody.

He leaves the library to retrieve his secure shelter.

The librarian had been half listening to the man as he spoke...
"Ah yes athas the homeworld where the magic was drawn from the energy of the earth a dark way of doing magic bringing ruin to the world for power.  That is fortunately not a problem for you at this time.  When he returns he can explain more of it."

Re: Library of the Mind's Eye

Taking up the book again Sanstree learns Wall of fog....
and copies it into his spellbook....

Sanstrees spellbook is an interesting one, the outer covers appear to be wood and the bindings/hinges are forged metal, with a metal hasp.  The book is heavy duty, but appears to have sacrificed some pages in order to be so sturdy....

Librarian,is there a place in the guild that one can obtain an additional spellbook and ink for transcibing spells that have been learned? I have a thing for collection and learning new spells so Usually gather all that I can.

"We have much here, and can stay self reliant and contained for a good bit of time, however there is much that is better bought on the local economy once you are at a duty station.  I think a blank spellbook to be one of those items."

"If you live so long as to rise within the ranks you may be allocated space in the stables and or have the ability to house a henchman or other such additional person that arrangements may be made for, though they will be interviewed by the guildmaster...."

Re: Library of the Mind's Eye

"Ah yes here we go first the difference between the two things...a portal may be thought of as a remneant of a gate, it is an existing structure, but not currently active and maybe not even obvious in its state, a gate on the other hand is a full fledged magical rift open from one place to another, and most obvious it leading to somewhere else.  So one may pass many a portals unaware, but a gate will be generally more obvious....I have heard of a person falling in a cave and in the darkness going through a gate and ending up much further down than realized, but that must be rare...interesting....."

Re: Library of the Mind's Eye

"Detecting portals would just be I believe the use of detect magic and the proper understanding of magical theory, maybe recognizing the clues of a once active gate.  Determining where the portal goes, changing that destination, and awakening the magic within it, that would require some spellcasting perhaps....?"

The librarian continues to rummage through various tomes and books....

In other words detecting a portal requires detect magic and spellcraft prof...

"Port keys can activate a portal and set up the destination, if you have the key for the portal, or the knowledge of the components the portal was keyed to, that would be most useful."

"Some have an innate sensitivity to portals...fascinating..."

"If you want to understand planes and portals, you might want to speak to Guild Master Boggart, directly, he is after all the master of this plane, and the plane it sits upon, he can shape things to his will as it were, it is he  that portals us to the places we may visit, and surely he has the knowledge you may seek...."

Unmar enters the Library of the guild and is immediately thunderstruck at the immense number of tomes, books, and publications were at hand. Mechanical automatons moved between rows, doing the librarian's bidding.

Unmar notes a large desk and approaches.

"This is a library if there were any magical scrolls to be found they would be mere happenstance and not an intentional feature of the library proper.   You may check with the quarter master in terms of supplies."
