Well, in keeping with the severe lack of Spelljammer games since it came out a year ago, we've only had 2 submissions so far, but it's the weekend, and barely 36 hours.

I'll probably have to readvertise next week, so it may take a bit before we start.

Also, welcome Ylwar! My character is a Wizard (Order of the Scribes), trying to have spells for every occassion, but with just the level-up picks from class levels, my repertoire is still very limited.

No, no RP thread. I could have folks starting from 3 different organizations in 2-2 different locations, plus the hired folk, like you, that could come from two of those locations, and, possibly, a 4th.

Crew for a ship is one person per action per weapon (For instance, a Ballista takes 3 actions: load, aim, fire, so 3 people to fire it in one round), plus a captain and a helmsman.

That's air supply and full combat ability. Presumably the Captain is for coordinating things and making final decisions, but, realistically, the helmsman decides where the ship goes, and the trigger man decides when to fire, assuming it got loaded and aimed. We will be assuming folks do what the Captain designate says unless they tell me otherwise specifically.

An Artificer can reduce man power by one loader with the right Infusion. A Battlesmith can further use his Defender as the trigger man, letting him man a ballista alone (with a little preparation).

And you were expecting a simple answers.

So, given the ship I plan on the Patron group providing, you'll want 6 in the party. If you DO have an Artificer, that could free up a sorcerer or wizard to cast spells, but that's usually not an issue due to range.

I will close things out at 8, just to have a body or two to absorb inevitable losses. Assuming we get to 8.

Four is a bare minimum: one fully crewed Ballista and a helmsman, but that makes repelling boarders or doing your own boarding a bit iffy.

We are up to 5. 6 would be better, 8 is ideal, just from a crewing standpoint, but Giselle can replace two of them on a ballista, if she's willing to manually load her crossbow.

We are a little short on muscle, but everyone, even what muscle we do have (so far), can work a Helm.

Also, it's only about 3 days since the ad was posted, so we're doing good, but we're about top fall off the front page.

A Horizon Walking Ranger is a really good thing. He can feel portals with a little work, and, with Tasha's substitutions, he doesn't even lose anything for being a ...dare I say it?... Space Ranger!

Well, no joy on the magic conjuring trick for a ranger. Space Ranger may have been a mistake.

We have 3 done, 2 in process. Six is ideal for flying a ship: one Helmsman, one watch stander/scut worker.

Hopefully the two in process will be done soon. I'll readvertise Thursday, and we should be able to start Monday with a small shakedown mission.

You know, I actually considered your icon for my character before I took this one. So, two human magic users with long blond hair! Even our names are kinda similar :D

Maybe we could RP that our characters are cousins? Or half-brothers. If you are up for it, I mean. I dunno, but it just came into my mind when I saw you how NPCs will probably be confusing the two of us all the time :D

Actually, Derrin's is more white than blond, the color of a white dwarf star. He's  actually an orphan from a mining asteroid, out to find the source of his apocalyptic dreams, and information about his missing parents.  So, anything is possible.

The NPCs will probably be trying to eat your brains. I don't think blond hair will confuse them much. "food" is "food".

And "mining asteroid" generally means "Dwarf". Humans pretty much farm. A different survival paradigm in space. And different in fantasy than in sci-fi.

Actually, humans pretty much make cities, it seems.

Humans get involved in anything.  I'm sure there are human-run mining guilds.  Or, maybe he was left at a dwarven mining colony.  They raised him, only ever speaking common to him.  He was not brought up to be a miner because he was not a dwarf, and his powers were perfect in that they had him trained on a helm to pilot their ships of ore.

I suppose the term "dwarf star" does bear a different meaning in a DnD world, lol
