Welcome to Helix. A game based upon the following books:
Venture City
Fate Core


You are teenage-young adults who have been giving great power. Each of you likely developed these power in one specific way:
Genetic Mutation: The characters could have inherited their powers through a genetic mutation, either from their parents or a more distant ancestor. This mutation might have been dormant until triggered by a specific event or environmental factor.

Experimental Procedure: The characters were unwitting subjects of an experimental procedure conducted by Helix Industries or a related organization. They were part of a secret program aimed at creating superhumans, and the procedure unexpectedly granted them unique abilities.

Artifact or Relic: The characters discovered a mysterious artifact or relic with supernatural properties that bestowed powers upon them when they came into contact with it. This artifact could have a deep history and possibly attract the attention of Helix Industries.

Psychic Awakening: The characters experienced a collective psychic awakening, triggered by a significant event or phenomenon. Their powers are manifestations of their shared subconscious desires or fears.

Near-Death Experience:
Each character survived a near-death experience, and their powers manifested during or after this life-threatening event. These experiences could be connected to Helix Industries' experiments.

Accidental Exposure: The characters were exposed to a hazardous or supernatural substance that altered their physiology and granted them unique abilities. Helix Industries may be responsible for the release of this substance.

Inherited Curse: The characters may have unwittingly inherited a supernatural curse or pact that granted them powers at a significant cost, such as having to confront evil forces.

I'll let you decide that part. Either way your power have created trouble for you. A company by the name of Helix Industries has begun asking questions and specifically looking for you. Regardless of how you stumbled upon your powers you know one thing, you aren't safe anymore. Maybe your awaken was messy, you could've killed people by accident or even on purpose. Maybe people saw you and took cell phone footage that linked you to your awaken.

Either way you will start with a Name. Then you will create a Concept of who your character is. Maybe your a normal kid that loves science, maybe you were the high school bully, maybe the smarter than most of your class, maybe you were the outcast that always was in the back of the room, either way you get the idea. Next you need to give me your trouble. Helix Industries is trouble but this isn't what we are talking about. As a kid you always struggled with something, might have been something simple like a drunk dad that beat you, maybe you grew up poor, maybe you had a run in with the law that makes you wanted for shopping lifting, or maybe you just woke up on the wrong day at the wrong time.

Next I want you to choose an Aspect about how you awakened. Give me the details of what took place, it was magically so give me that magic. After that I want you to make an Second Aspect that focuses on a bond with another hero. You most likely went to school together and possibly know people. Explain how. The third and final Aspect you will leave blank, this is for future you.

Next I want you to pick your Skills. The formula we are using is
One skill at +3,
two skills at +2,
Three skills at +1

your a little unskilled, that's important because you aren't mastered. Your a kid, remember this. You aren't making an adult. Skill list can be found here > Skills

Two minor changes: Fight has been broken into BRAWLING and FIGHTING. Make sure you make note of this. So 3 fighting skills total: Brawling, Fighting, Shooting. Brawling is using your fist to attack, Fighting is using weapons to attack and Shooting is anything that requires ranged attacks this includes throwing.

Next you gain 5 refresh. 2 Must be spent on Powers which can be found here > Powers. You can spend more of you refresh on adding more to your powers but I suggest that you don't go more than 2 on this. You can however go a little lower so it's up to you. NOTE you can have no more than ONE Power.

Finally if we haven't made it to the end you need to give me a background that sums everything up. If you want to include it in the post and highlight specific things in bold. Example I was a big bully that picked up science nerds(Concept) that excelled at causing Fights(+3) with teachers and students.

Just make sure you mark which each thing is. I don't mind this either.

FAQ

I realized I screwed up explaining the refresh so allow me to explain.

5 refresh is the normal character:

Your hero starts with 3. Powers are in a category of their own as they cost refresh but essentially can only be bought with power refresh. You gain 2 of these.

A hero with 1 stunt and 1 Power with an enhancement has a refresh of 3.

Keep in mind we are sticking to the ONE power rule. You can't go into any other powers at the start that means if you take a power that's your power once again think Heroes, Brave New World and other role playing games. You can gain additional enhancements but no power synergies (not yet)

Are there Super heroes? Not really. You are going to meet street level heroes but not super heroes like spiderman, xmen, etc. Think street level heroes like Daredevil, Luke Cage, etc.

The difference is in this world you are essentially hunted and feared for your powers (similar to X-men and Heroes). People don't understand so Helix stepped in to help calm the public fear. Over time you are going to learn what Helix really is and hopefully so will the world.
