Part Zero: Interlude

You are in the city of Sandpoint attending the Swallowtail Festival. The sky is bright and sunny and there is no rain on the horizon for the next few days. As the festival begins you are drawing into all the festivities that interest you.

The festival has tons of people walking around and looking at the events taking place. Many different sights lead to your eyes to different parts of the festival.

OOC: What do you want to do? This is more of a roleplaying experience. If you want to check out some of the sights let me know and we have some random things that can happen during the festival.

Part Zero: Interlude

Having only recently arrived, Mina wanders around the festival looking for food stalls. Her main coin purse is kept tucked safely away deep in the layers and folds of her clothing and only a smaller, secondary coin purse holding 4 gold pieces, 4 silver pieces, and 8 copper pieces is readily available for purchases. Her backpack and pouches are secured firmly and she keeps keenly aware of anyone--adult or child--who comes near her, attempts to bump into her or distract her, or whose gaze and posture looks like a potential pickpocket. Her focused eyes dart from person to person and in the shadows, nooks and crannies, and other places where pickpockets may lie in waiting for an unaware mark. Having grow up on the wrong side of the streets, she is well aware of the various cons, distractions, and methods used by both individual pickpockets as well as teams of pickpockets working together.

Part Zero: Interlude

Skyfro admires the new Cathedral for a moment, unconsciously stepping out of the way of others, local and visitor alike. He shoulders his pack and adjusts his unstrung bow over his shoulder before turning to take in the colors of the festival. He begins to move through the crowd, sliding gracefully around any groups of people and idly listening in to their chatter, but never staying still long enough to hear a full conversation. Taking in the crowd, he sees mostly humans and a few others, almost expecting the lack of those who look like him. With a careless shrug, he wanders the town with an eye out for where he might help out and earn some trust with the locals.

Part Zero: Interlude

The little gnome had arrived in the town a few days earlier, he'd been told the market would be one of the best in the area at this time of year and he thought he'd be able to pick up some less available supplies for his experiments and arcane powers.

Plus of course he loved a good festival and the street food that came with it.

He was tucking into a warm meat pie while sat under a tree absent mindedly making a few leaves dance in a slight breeze that had mysteriously developed in front of him to the silent amazement of a few young eyes that had noticed.

One of the areas near the Cathedral is serving some kind of chicken leg that appears to be using a special seasoning. He prompts everyone over to get a special taste picking you three out of the crowds.

"Come. Come taste my fine chicken. It's the best in the all the lands."

The fat tubby Dwarf laughs a jolly laugh as you get closer to the stall. He pulls out three smaller samples of the legs and hands them out to each one of you.

Deciding why not you bite into the piece of leg meat to find that it has a taste that is exceptional compared to what it looks like. The sample leaves you wanting much more of than the minor taste you were just given.

Skyfro smacks his lips and sniffs the finger tips which have touched the delicious meat.

"You have quite the touch for seasoning. How much for half a bird worth?"

The happy Dwarf looks at Skyfro with a smile. "A silver piece will do. I offer the best prices in the land."

In reply to Zyphus (msg # 7):

Tasty, but not humble. Not for me to change his ways, however.

Skyfro produces a coin as if from nowhere and offers it up to the Dwarf. "And so begins the true enjoyment of the festival."

Part Zero: Interlude

Mina wanders around the festival. Her eyes shift to look up at the Cathedral. A shiver runs down her spine as she does.

The scent of cooked chicken catches her attention and her thoughts drift back to food. She follows her nose and seeks out the source of the tantalizing smell through the crowd--a food booth ran by a fat dwarf.

When he offers her a sample, she narrows her eyes at the Dwarf. Why would he pick her out of the crowd? Did he recognize her? Or is he working some kind of scam? Her eyes shift as the Half-Orc readily accepts the chicken leg and asks for more after eating it. Why is he sniffing his fingers? Is the Half-Orc in on the scam...like how a snake oil salesman has an accomplice out in the crowd?

She eyes the offered chicken suspiciously as the Dwarf holds it out towards her. Her stomach grumbles noticeably. She looks down at her stomach and then back over at the chicken sample. She suddenly snatches it out of his hand. She sniffs at it. She sticks her tongue out and tests it with the tip. She pulls her tongue back and suddenly takes a big chomp out of the meaty part. She looks at the Dwarf as she does, watching his facial expression to see if she can see any signs of deceptive intent.

She slowly chews on the piece of meat she bit off, trying to discern any signs of drugs hidden by the spices. Satisfied, she uses fingers from both hands to strip away all of the meat before tossing the bone to a village dog. She licks the grease off of her fingers. She hates how it feels.
