Hello fellow roleplayers! It's been a while since I hosted a game on RPOL, and I felt the urge to tell some stories with others!
The goal of this game is to enjoy the journey, as there is no final destination. I expect all of you to do your best to write well, and you should expect the same from me.
This game is freeform, meaning there is no system you must learn in the offset. However, as your characters explore the world, they will encounter fantastical elements. These may have their own rules, but I will never be asking for dice rolls or skill checks.
As the game continues, your characters will certainly change as you experience many things, and live for countless years. You may go through periods where you are immensely powerful in relation to your region, though at other times you my be weak and on the run.
Most of this game will consist of interaction with many flavorful environments, as well as lots of internal character development. The acquisition of power and passage of time will both be quite gradual, so expect to become familiar with peoples, places and names while they last - and do not expect to become omnipotent any time soon.
The unique core of your characters is that you are the sole features of this universe that are completely non-transient. Everything else will pass. You will remain. This does not necessarily afford you greater power or authority than others, though it sometimes might.
This game will have a level of collaborative worldbuilding. While the GM will have final say, players are free and greatly encouraged to express what kind of things they are interested in encountering (in OOC threads or PMs), so that I may include it in the world in a fitting form. Ultimately, a little bit of everything will be available at one point or another. The only exception to this is your backstories, where I will give you more wiggle room to just flat out state things. I will still probably have to tweak some stuff when we get started to ensure all players are able to collaborate soon after the game begins, but I will ensure whatever narrative or atmosphere your backstory displays is upheld.
The rating of this game will be Mature, because I don't want to have to worry about the additional Adult rules of RPOL. The focus on this game will not really be Adult themes anyway. If Mature themes come up, they will be handled with care to abide site rules and ensure the story does not become gratuitous.
Some basic guidelines:
- Try to keep your posts a digestible size. While there will be a lot of words involved, they need to be spread out enough that I can keep up with responding to them.
- Whenever you are interacting with other players, make sure to consult with them in OOC for what they want or do not want. While I have no hard rules against conflict or PVP, and in fact I encourage it to an extent (between characters, not players!!) there is no benefit at all to the story if a player is put in an uncomfortable scenario with another player.
- Please be open minded, invested and willing and able to communicate to ensure we all have a good experience.
