House Rules Collection - Ref

The House Rules are dynamic. Check often.

This is a very easy to navigate SRD for 3.5. I love it.  We are only using the Core rules at this time.

Take 10

Taking 10 on skill checks: If a task can be repeated over and over without penalty for failure then a character can take a 10. Taking 20 can't be done.

If a skill requires higher than the 10, then regular attempts can be made.

After 5 failed attempts, the task eludes character till next level or some new in game knowledge is revealed to improve effort.

Alignment

Alignment is dynamic and the selection on your character sheet is what you strive for.  It will have very little effect on the game in general.  If a player is particularly good at RPing their chosen alignment I will award an RP bonus to XP.  This should not be planned for or expected. If alignment becomes important for any number of reasons I will decide what your current alignment is. With that said a word on alignments specifically.

I separate the two aspects entirely. Good and evil is pretty straight forward. Good have regard for others, evil do not. Law and chaos are more confusing. It does not specifically refer to law and crime but to order and chaos. Chaotic characters like things to be unpredictable and they resist conformity and control. Lawful character not only obey the law, but live up to a certain standard or code.

So choose what you like but I would advise against evil or CN characters. As they can be difficult to play appropriately and still be cooperative in a party. Not impossible and not strictly prohibited however.

Notes on Neutrality. On the law chaos spectrum, it's simply the middle.  No other meaning.  However on the Good and evil spectrum Neutrality is actually something different.  Neutral characters believe that morality is in neutrality.  They believe all life has meaning and worth. They don't stand in judgment but they will help maintain balance. In a way, they believe Neutrality is the greater good.

Using poison is not evil. Evilly using poison is.

Rules of Thumb:

To Good, Honor and Compassion are virtues
To Evil, Power and Wealth are virtues.
To Neutral, Life and Suffering are virtues.
To Lawful, Honesty and Order are virtues.
To Chaotic, Freedom and Flexibility are virtues.

Performance to woo a crowd

A bard can use the performance skill to change the mood of a room.  The performance must make sense in context. The bard picks an emotion them performs to elicit that emotion. On a DC 15 the mood of a room is enhanced.  3 consecutive enhancing performances can stabilize the mood of a room.  This can happen with a single performance if the DC of 25 is achieved. In this case the room is immediately stabilized at the emotion intended. If a critical failure occurs at any point. The crowd reacts negatively to performance and no further attempts can be made. Three fails in a row and the room is lost. How many attempts can be made is dictated by the context of the story.

Posting format

Subject:  (Leave as is)
Message: Third person perspective of your character, present tense. Describe actions and thoughts and intentions. You could offer optional reactions to possible outcomes. These reactions can help when I post results.
All of this is strictly IC.

All rolls go at bottom with this format

Description   ex: Myrcury Hide Check
Roll Adjustments ex: Dex +4, Rnk +4
     Roll Results ex: Rolled 12 + 8 = 20

Virtuoso Fingers

This is a version of the Nimble Fingers Feat. Instead of granting +2 to lock pick and disarm, it grants +2 to performance on stringed instrument.

NPCs and Combat

As the DM I reserve the right to force the outcomes of combat not involving PCs.  In other words, I may or may not have combat play out randomly when it's just between NPCs and or Monsters.

More times than not, it will be scripted. So you won't see rolls for these situations.

Bard Gigging

If a Bard wishes to play for money, they will roll a skill check for each 30 minute set. Tips will pay out based on result. The PHB shows payouts based on skill roll. These are for 3 sets. If a bard plays 3 they will get the amount indicated. If they only play 1 set, it will be divided by 3. 3 sets per day, typically is max.

Attacking immobilized target

If target is asleep, paralyzed, unconscious or otherwise immobile they can be automatically hit with full damage from weapon. All bonuses apply as well as a Sneak Attack from a rogue. This rule assumes the target had vulnerable areas to attack.

Silent Action

Most actions can be attempted stealthily by attaching a Move Silently roll to it. Not all actions can be completely silent but some can be, and some can be muffled. Keep in mind these are made against Listen checks, so assume nothing about good or bad rolls. There are no critical successes nor failures in these situations. You can describe the quality of your roll, but dont assume you've been detected or not.

Arrows

Arrows are made of wood and break easily. Arrows that miss are gone, unless they are obviously not gone. Arrows that hit flesh can be extracted with effort. 50% chance per arrow of being salvaged in useful condition. Arrows lodged in objects are easier to extract but 50% are broken.

Hopefully that's clear.

When posting the salvage of arrows, you can roll this and use data in your post.

Wild Form casting

A druid can deliver a touch spell after casting it in his normal form then shape shift to deliver touch.  This can be repeated multiple times for cantrips. So the druid can cast the same cantrip multiple times without leaving wild form.

First it must be cast in normal form, then wild form can deliver as many touches as they have 0 level spells available.

Missile attacks

If a PC or monster makes no other action or move and are not in melee or have been attacked in anyway, they can fire 2 shots from a bow, sling or thrown weapon in a single round. Crossbows do not qualify for this house rule.

This is a double edged sword so be aware and use it.

This has to be a pristine situation. Many things might prevent a second shot.
