Mae's Tavern, Blackberry Lake - ICGT

Blackberry Lake is a small town nestled in a valley on the Eastern edge of the Lordship of Edwin. There is a Travelers Rest Inn there with an adjoining tavern called Mae's. The locals and visitors mix on most evenings as Mae's is known for good music and an up beat atmosphere.  Dancing and drinking often extend well into most nights.

On this particular evening, a gnome merchant named Remington and his driver a human named Bender are enjoying a tall mug of ale at a table in the back of the room. Several other tables closer to the stage are occupied by youngsters drinking and laughing. They are anticipating the start of the music.

Kylen, a well known, young, talented bard, who grew up just a few miles north of town is about to play. He has a few local fans / friends. The half-elf who favors his elven mother is well liked by the locals despite his elven heritage. The Nyteshade family is well respected in Blackberry Lake. Everyone knows of Bentam Nyteshade even if they have never met him. He is seldom seen in town.

Mae sees Kaylen sneek in the back door, late as usual. She yells at him to,

"Get yer ass up there and start selling drinks. Dancing makes em thirsty!

She gives him a wry smile and a smack on the back side. Mae is an older woman whose owned the place for 30 some years. She is single and saucy.

Introducing Remy Remington

At a table near the back,

"I told her we haven't seen Gnomeskulls in over a century. But she insists I keep asking about em! Crazy that lovely elf is I tell ya. All that fuss for a mushroom. A mushroom ain't nobody seen in your lifetime Mr. Bender. Shoot, I have never seen one to be honest. Ha!

Remy Remington is not drunk, yet, but he is boisterous. Rather comical coming from the only 3 foot tall man in the room.

Introducing Mr. Bender

"Did you say 'Gnomeskulls'? The mushrooms are called Gnomeskulls? That my little friend is hilarious!"

He laughs heartily then slams the remainder of his pint. He motions to Mae for a refresher.

Humans?

"You humans are so easily amused. Anyhow, Kayla Moonharvest is a mighty generous lady. Garl knows I would love to help her. But thar ain't no Gnomeskulls to be found."

He likewise finishes his half pint and signals for another as well.

Introducing Mae Carpenter

"Here you are gentlemen.  Ill put it on yer tab Remy?"

She moves by quickly. The youth near the stage are getting antsy. She needs to intervene. As she crosses to them smiling she yells to Kylen,

"Tune that lute and let's get some music in here Ky! Natives are getting restless." She yells across the room good naturedly.

Introducing Kylen Nyteshade

Kylen quickly scans the room to see who is in attendance tonight. He notices a lot of familiar faces, but also a handful that are new to him. He decides to start his play list with an upbeat number called The Buffoon's Beard. a dwarven jig about a clumsy dwarf. It is a little bawdy but should not run the risk of offending any new listeners. It will allow him to read the room a little better and decide how far he should push the boundaries of social graces.

"Thank you everyone for coming out this evening. I would like to start off with a little number I am sure you will all enjoy. Throughout the evening if I do not play your favorite ditty, let me know and I will do request. So, sit back, and sing along if you know the words to the Buffoon's Beard!"

"When it comes to dwarves most tales are heroic and this one will get there as well,
This song is about a dwarf named Dwendel, whose deeds, typically, were not much to tell.

Few knew his birthname, and it has very few mentions, even in the words of this tune,
Because his actions often led to disaster, he was known as the Bearded Buffoon.

If you hear a crash or broken glass it is probably the Bearded Buffoon,
When your watching a dwarf fall flat on his ass, It is definitely the Bearded Buffoon."

Performance DC 15= +6 (3 skill points + 3 Ability)
Kylen Nyteshade rolled 17 using 1d20+6 ((11)).

DM Note: Though this may not have been as effective as it could have been, it was very in character and entertaining ... 50 bonus xp for Kylen
