Frode continued to warm up, refusing snowshoes. He also makes sure he can borrow a shortbow for the race. If not, he will purchase one.

The ten competitors got ready at the archery range, the rules were explained to them, and when all of them were ready. The race was on!

[OOC: The competitors will fire at a target, run a lap around the course, and then fire their bow again. And so on.
Frode, please make your rolls for the first two laps.]

Frode's first shot is terrible, but it is a new bow, so he can excuse himself this once. It also shows that he isn't using magic to gain an advantage. His second shot is much better, nearly perfect.

12:33, Today: Frode Magnuson rolled 19 using 2d20+3, dropping the lowest dice only.  Lap 2 with advantage.
12:33, Today: Frode Magnuson rolled 8 using 2d20+3, dropping the lowest dice only.  Attack roll w/ advantage.

When instructed to do so, the ten archers each fired their first arrow. And the better they had shot, the sooner the official standing next to them allowed them to start running. Frost had shot the best so he was on his way first. And he ran well too so he extended his lead. The human female was fourth and the elven female was fifth out on the track.

And Frode unfortunately was last out on the track with a particularly bad shot with his borrowed shortbow. On the first lap he passed the dwarf running with snowshoes.

Frost was first to fire his second arrow, but it was worse than his first, but fortunate for him his lead was great enough for him to start running before the elven female got to shoot. And she fired a perfect shot and got to run immediately. And both of them improved their lead by running faster than the other archers. The human female remained in fourth place after outshooting one, and almost both, of the humans ahead of her.

With his second arrow, Frode outshot the other dwarf, the big human, and the worst-shooting human. Being the fastest runner of the group, he closed with the others, but didn't improve past sixth place.

[OOC:
Frost 45
Elven Female 44
Human B 38
Human Female 37
Human C 33
Frode 31
Dwarf with snowshoes 25
Dwarf without snowshoes 24
Big Human 23
Human A 18

Frode, please roll twice more for the next two laps.
]

Steward was cheering for both women. And as he didn't know their names, he used the affectionate pet names he had given them when he flirted with them before the race. And now that the elf was in second place, he cheered for her the most.

Devron cannot help but laugh at Frode's first shot, although he doubted he would do better, archery was never his best skill.  He cheers for Frost as the dragonborn completes his second lap closely behind the leader.

Frode was now in the swing of it, having the measure of the bow he had borrowed. His third shot is as good as his second and his forth is even better by a 1/4 margin. Sensing the advatage shifting his way he calls on a huge burst on speed for the forth lap.

Intro Post

Eir had been in town for a few days, listening to the rumors of the town before finding himself settled in the stands. It was a decently crowded area, but not too crowded, so Eir felt right at home. This was the first event, so the young man watched the event for a bit, as well as the crowd cheering them on, seeing who was genuine verses a fake relationship.

Sigrun laughed and held Steward's arm as the race became exciting.

"Come on, Frode!" she called. "You can do it!" She had ten gold crowns riding on the rather taciturn fellow and while he'd not done well at the start, he seemed to be catching up.

As Sigrun laughed and held Steward's arm, he smiled at her, kissed her cheek, and continued to cheer "his girls" on. The rest of the crowed cheered too. For various competitors, mostly for the locals. Or whomever they had bet on.

As the competitors started shooting for the third time, the elven female fired another near-perfect shot and this time Frost could not hold on to the lead. As he fired the second-worst shot of anyone in the entire competition! Allowing the human behind him to start running before him and getting into second place. And the female human shot well enough so that she and Frost started running at the same time, tieing at third. Because of his faster speed, he outdistanced her and caught up to the human in front of him.

Frode shot well enough to improve one position into fifth.

The Big Human advanced from ninth to seventh. The two dwarfs returned to the archery range neck and neck.

The elf fired her penultimate arrow before anyone else had returned to the archery range and the arrow split the shaft of her second arrow as she again got a perfect score. And she could go out on her penultimate lap immediately! Frost and the human fired at the same time, but the dragonborn's shot was much better, and he returned to second place alone. And with his greater speed he increased his lead as he ran. The Big Human shot so much better this round that he advanced to third place! And so the human female dropped to fifth.

And Frode shot just as well as her and he left the range tied for fifth. But being the fastest runner on the track, he quickly left her behind. But that wasn't all. He caught up with one of the humans, inching into fourth place. And he continued running, soon passing the Big Human too. Now in third place. And by the time they reached the archery range again, he had almost caught up with Frost!

With the elf extending her lead, Steward continued to cheer for her in a jubilant manner.

[OOC: Two natural 20s for the elf now! The dice has really gone her way. Most of her rolls have been perfect or near perfect.]

[OOC:
Elven Female 48. 98
Frost 45. 72.
Frode 31. 71.

Human C 33. 56.
Dwarf with snowshoes 25. 50.

The elf maiden fired her worst shot in the competition. Frost fired his second-best shot in the competition. Frode fired his worst shot in the competition too, tied with his first shot. The big human fired his worst shot of the competition, tied with his second shot. The human female fired her worst shot in the competition. The dwarf without snowshoes fired his best shot in the competition. And the human at the end fired a perfect shot! But by that time, everyone else had left the archery range and he had no chance of catching up with anyone.

But the dwarf without snowshoes did not only pass the other dwarf, he caught up with the human ahead of them too and he advanced two positions.

The human behind Frode fired better than he did and started running before Frode was allowed to do so, but Frode caught up with him and passed him on the track.

And having shot so much better than the elf this time, Frost closed with her. But her two perfect arrows were insurmountable.

And the elven female was the first to pass the goal line, Frost was the second, and Frode was the third.

[OOC:
Elven Female 48. 98. 110

Human C 33. 56. 72.
Dwarf with snowshoes 25. 50. 63.
Human A 18. 36. 60.

[OOC: With that, Frode please deduct 150 gp from your purse, Devron please deduct 10 gp, and Grilka please deduct 5gp. Stewart won 10 gp, but he also lost 10gp, so he ended up where he started. The dice did not go the group's way this time.

Sigrun Goll:
Sigrun will bet 10 gold on Frode despite the stink eye. He seems so sure of himself.

Sigrun is also out ten gold coins, but she laughs as she passes over the money, already composing verses about the competition -- both rude and heroic in style -- to sing later on when everyone has had a few drinks.

She pushes Steward to go and congratulate the winner.

"You know you want to," she winked at him. "She's lovely."

Frode went to the two who had beaten him and put out his hand "I congratulate you both on a glorious victory. It seems I need more practice with a bow." He gracefully counted out his losing bet and handed it over. He then went and sat near Kara, glancing to her and away when she looked to him.

Steward let himself be pushed. "It's only polite after all." And he headed over to the elf. He might be average looking and overweight, but he was charismatic. And he turned his charisma up to eleven as he congratulated her on her win and continued to flirt with her.

As others wanted to talk to her too, Steward moved on to the human female competitor after spending more than his allotted time with the winner. And he flirted with her too, while consoling her only ending up in sixth place. As they talked there was suddenly a raven, as black as sin, perching on his left lower arm. And both of them doted over it. And Steward ended up spending even more time with her than he had with the elf who won the competition.

[OOC: Sorry about that Sigrun, I missed making a note of that bet.]

"The arrows flew my way today," the elf said. "I've never shot that well before! And you were faster than everyone else. I'm sure you would have won if you had had my luck today. Half of my luck even."

"Not even my magic bow would have been enough to beat you," Frost told the elf. "As for you Frode, skill always helps, but I don't think you're as far off in this competition as you think. I agree our honored winner and I think that if our luck had been a little different, you may have ended up winning the competition."

Frode bowed, accepting their condolations with respect. Despite his earlier boasting he is a gratious loser. He really hoped his display had at least gotten the halfling woman's (Kara) attention.

As in my last post, Frode is sitting near Kara and trying to see if he has caught her interest at all.

Devron cheered as the race ended and clapped for the winner despite having lost his own money.  "That was more entertaining than I'd expected and another example of why I shouldn't gamble."

Devron spoke briefly to several of the competitors, "Frost, well run race, so close but the winner certainly had some amazing shots today."  Devron glanced over to Frode and decides to be gracious with his comments.  "Well run, definitely the fastest one out there."

"Reindeer racing next?  In my village we usually eat those."

Devron notes the raven landing on Steward's arm.  An interesting occurrence, but he doesn't mention it.

Kara must have been paying some attention to the event itself, but mostly she seems content to sit on the high rock she found before the event and watch the overall shift of attention in the crowd as a whole as the race evolves.  When Froed settles in next to her she doesn't react immediately, but once there is a bit of a gap in the general flow of the people she does at least acknowledge his presence.

”Hopefully you are of more use in a real fight than you are when running around in circles, this is why you don't bet all your money in one place.

As the group continued to talk and enjoy themselves, the Reindeer Race took place. Mostly locals participated and it was much closer than the Biathlon had been. Leaders changed frequently. No one was far behind the rest of them, if one ignored the odd outsider who didn't know what they were doing. And when the race came to an end, there was as much cheering as there had been for the Biathlon. But most of it passed by the six without much fanfare.

And later that was followed by the ski race. With much the same result.

And as day turned into evening, the group found themselves in the Splitrock Inn where most of them had spent last night.

It was clear that there were going to be at least two evening competitions too. One in flyting and one in drinking. But other than that, the evening was mostly more partying for those not entering either of those competitions.

Intro Post-

Such festivals were common practice back home, but not to this extent. This size. It was a bit awe inspiring. And Eir had gotten lost in the crowds a few times. Luckily, he was the type to go with the flow, and ended up finding himself inside the Spitrock Inn. It was a wild day, and it was a bit tiring, but the celebrations were not over yet. He found himself standing along the back wall as he didn't know anyone and didn't want to take up a seat if groups needed a table. He kept his pack on, uncertain if thieves would be nearby, not that he had much to take. But for now, he leaned against the wall, hoping to be able to watch both the flyting and drinking competition from his angle.
