Flyting

Consider Flyting something like a skaldic rap battle. A ritual exchange of poetic insults and a demonstration of wit, learning, and verbal audacity. It takes the place of martial combat in situations where engaging in violence would be rude or inappropriate. A flyting is always between two individuals. It never involves groups.

The Taunt
It begins with a Taunt and the aggressor sets the tone of the flyting to good-natured or slanderous and makes a Charisma (Performance) check. The defender can make either a Charisma (Performance) or a Charisma (Persuasion) check.

If the defender wins, they can change the tone of the flyting if they want to or avoid the challenge completely. If they made a Charisma (Performance) check and want to avoid the challenge, they will lose face and have a -2 penalty to Charisma ability checks for the next 1d6 days. If they made a Charisma (Persuasion) check, they avoid the loss of face if they want to avoid the challenge.

The Exchange
Whomever won the Taunt goes first. Your choice of skill determines how you want to proceed:
* Intelligence (History): You relate an embarrassing incident.
* Charisma (Performance): You deliver a witty burn in skaldic verse or mock the foe’s mannerisms.
* Charisma (Deception): You impugn their romantic appeal.
* Charisma (Intimidation): You diminish their valor.

The opponent makes a Wisdom save with a DC equal to the result of the above check.

Flyting Victory
The winner of an exchange earns one barb. A win by 5 or more earns two. And you have to have at least five barbs to win the flyting.
