I think we all learned to swim in the Rhone River that runs by the city. Maybe not well, but we shouldn't drown by just falling in.

I recieved a PM on note:
DM, I have a question from a paragraph in Wilderness Survival Guide pg 12

Expanding Proficiency Slots (Optional Rule)
The proficiencies described in this book greatly increase the number of different skills available to characters. If the proficiencies described in Dungeoneer’s Survival Guide are used in addition to the ones given here, and if the campaign is an especially difficult one, particularly for lower-level characters, the Dungeon Master may decide to allow each character one additional non-weapon proficiency slot at 1st level - but only if all of a character’s non-weapon slots are filled right away; if a player elects to delay filling this extra slot, it is lost and cannot be filled later.

---Are we using that option or not?

Yes, this seems reasonable.

In reply to The GM (msg # 32):

Elves start with about 7 languages, and can learn 1 more for every point of int over 15, so with an 18 int they get three extra, not the 7 more listed under Int.

Man...I am usually not one to question the DM too much...but which DMG has over 400 pages? Both of the early editions I have are around the 240 pg mark.

everyone but elves. elves are too young to have had time to learn added languages.

Aside from racial languages, which ones are in the zone or may be learned?

I'm torn between a Druid or another Fighter.  I can make either work with the stats I have.  Any preference gang?

Druid, we have a lot of fighters. I thought there was another thief too, now it appears I'm it.

Do Druids also get the Widsom bonus spells from Wisdom Table II (Adjustment for Clerics)?

I played a 1st/2ed druid for a decade in another game.  It's a good class to play but you'd need to make sure the nature-centric viewpoint works with the player mix.  For that matter, some games end up with druids being hated by the townsies as they're resisting the growth of the town and the loss of wildlands.  For the former, it doesn't look like you'll be arguing with a paladin; for the latter, it's up to the DM

As for wisdom bonus - I've seen DM ruling on both sides of the question

Just waiting to hear back from the DM on an issue for my Druid, and I'll wrap up and jump in.

I figure my Druid is an outsider on the periphery of town, working for/with a Druid in a grove... if any one has any input or suggestions about that, let me know! :)

Two notes:

1. The DM literally banned outsiders in this game.

The GM:
"If you want to play an outsider, do it outside this game."

2. There are two Rangers and an elf in this group. It would be really weird for a Druid to be an outsider in that company. It would be easier to avoid knowing half the group if you stayed in town all the time.

Bonus note:

3. I was really hoping to be friends with your Druid (1st ed Druids are cool as sh**) because Rangers need to know Druid stuff.

OK, works for me.  By "outsider" I don't mean "stranger who doesn't know anyone," just, they wouldn't live in town, would they?  As a druid?  Even if they were originally FROM town.  But, if you want them to live in town, that's fine with me.

But I'm happy to have a ranger friend in any case.

Finalizing my sheet now.  Character's name is Enkidu.  He's a half-elven Druid, 45 years old (which is 'mature' by human standards), about 5'6" and average build.

I'm open to any suggestions of connections with other characters.  Since he mentioned it, Enkidu could certainly be friends with Samuel.

You could have dated Andar's sister.  Or my people could have done some of your training.  Elves from the area.

Most likely since it is a small isolated village.  Everyone is probably related some how.
