YT

NAME:  YT
SECRET ID:  Ashley Matheson
OCCUPATION:  Costumed adventurer, high school student (Sk8r grrl)

Personality: YT is a bubbly, snarky type of vigilante, usually good-natured and friendly.  She saves the epic one-liners and putdowns for her opponents.  This has sometimes had the effect that some people think she’s not taking a situation seriously, but nothing could be further from the truth.

BACKGROUND:  Ashley Matheson, young skateboarder-at-large, super nerd who threw the bell curve, had little appreciation for her heritage…until she had her own “that fateful day”…

It all started during the Vietnam Conflict, her grandfather, and a supersoldier program that, for once was reasonably successful.  Project:  Gilgamesh hand-picked a group of men from all services (Art Matheson was a Navy SEAL), gave them a battery of physical and psychological tests, and narrowed it to a team of six to be given “The Treatment”.  While successful in producing a squad of supersoldiers who didn’t go psychotic, Vietnam still ended the same way, and left its mark on each of them in different ways.  And of course, they were still called upon through the years, even after discharge.

He remained married and they had a son (Donovan), despite all this, and eventually left it all behind in retirement…until an aggressive form of cancer ravaged him in his final years.  Despite this, he managed to see his granddaughter born.

Ashley’s father, Donovan Greer, was born with an absurd physique—almost superhuman.  His long story short, he was a closeted gay man who married an ambitious woman, and together they would conquer Wall Street.

Actually, she was too ambitious.  For all her intelligence, she had no scruples, which resulted in her being caught doing insider trading, and him being threatened with the loss of their daughter.  He chose his daughter’s welfare and came out of the closet shortly afterward, serving his wife with divorce papers.  He abandoned the corporate world, went to live with his mother, and eventually started a bakery business.  He’s much happier now.

As Ashley grew, some of her grandfather’s legacy bled through to her as well.  She was tougher, faster, and so smart it was scary.  She took a liking to weird DIY stuff and chemistry.  The only thing she loved more was skateboarding.  She loved extreme thrashing, the more extreme, the better she liked it.  She was always looking for a way to push it further, and it was inevitable she’d use her skills to try and take it to the next level.

Using some well-honed dumpster diving skills and Craigslist, she somehow created a new type of skateboard that allowed her to achieve unheard of speed.  Because of how dangerous this could be, she developed a road rasher unitard to protect her from the crashes that were possible.  Finally, to hide the fact she was doing this, she made a set of IR/UV goggles to allow her to practice during the night.

It worked really well, and as the weeks went by, she refined and debugged her work, and started considering how she might profit off of this…until a certain fateful night, when she heard a scream.

As a resident of a seedier part of New York, she was used to hearing screams like this.  Usually, she did what most good citizens did:  Minded her business and reminded herself to be grateful it wasn’t her screaming.  This night though, she saw as well as heard.  She saw two men struggling with a girl who couldn’t have been more than 12 as they pulled her toward a panel van.

She used her speed that night to confuse and take down the girl’s assailants.  The next day, she’d find out that the two men were connected to a series of kidnappings and rapes that had happened across the county.  She had foiled her first major crime.

She had never considered taking up the superhero role before, but with that night’s actions, she was thinking differently.  With a few more modifications, she could take her place as one of the Big Apple’s protectors.

Now justice comes delivered faster than bad news and as serious as a heart attack, compliments of Yours Truly…YT!

And here's an image, looking like she's starring in an anime…

TRAITS:
1.  Extreme Sk8r Grrl:  YT’s been practicing skateboarding since she was 8.  She’s gotten really really REALLY good at it at this point, especially when combined with the fact of her legacy supersoldier powers (see below).  She can also walk on her hands, too.

2.  Legacy Supersoldier:  Like her Grandfather (and her Father, but he plays it on the DL these days), she was born with enhanced physical capabilities as a result of her Grandad’s experience in Project:  Gilgamesh.  She’s faster, tougher (even possessing low level regeneration), and stronger than a normal teenaged girl should be.  She also processes information faster than normal, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg, mentally, because…

3.  Built her own gear:  To partially quote Jeff Bridges in “Iron Man”:  “[Ashley Whittaker] BUILT THIS IN [the basement of her dad’s house], WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS [which she got from dumpster diving, Craigslist, and her meager allowance]!”.  Yes, she’s pretty damn smart when it comes to machines, but also…

4.  Underdeveloped sixth sense:  If she had grown up in a different environment, she might’ve been a powerful psychic.  Alas, she grew up in the city, and as such only has a “danger sense”.  This can give the illusion of her having even faster reflexes than she has…like she knows the bullet is coming before it leaves the barrel.  Keep in mind, this is all instinctual, and largely untrained.

5.  Rule 303—those who have the means have the moral responsibility:  Ever since that day long ago when she stopped a little girl from getting kidnapped by human traffickers, she’s been of a mind that she has an obligation to use her abilities to help people.

6.  High school student:  And there’s the fact that she’s doing this while still a Junior in high school.  Ashley falls somewhere between the “Good-at” and “Floater” cliques, has to downplay her physicality during PE (she has an unfair advantage, after all), and has to deal with the fact that her drummer boyfriend Trent has a tiny crush on YT, and of course has no idea that she’s YT (he IS a musician, mind you).
