Maxis Bal

Born to parents that were leading Imperial scientists, twins Maxis and Mirah Bal would become unwitting participants in experiments at a young age that would combine dark magic and science. In secret, the program was initiated as a means to find alternatives alongside Ledan genetics to cultivate loyal, homegrown fighters, soldiers, and warriors from child to adult. Early on, manifestation of the twins’ powers came in the form of being able to manipulate dark matter. It was also learned that due to an almost shared cognitive ability when the twins were in close proximity, they were able to feed off each other’s powers, thoughts, and movements as one. From that point on, Max and Mir would remain nearly inseparable under the tutelage of their parents and the near limitless resources the Empire.

For the twins, a life of devout training culminated in becoming proficient Palatine Sentinels. Near and far, Max and Mir carried out missions together in the form of assassinations and espionage. Their effectiveness in killing in the name of the Empire had dubbed the program that created them a success. However, there was one flaw that was unseen. In the twins’ final mission before the fall, they were ordered to track, find, and eliminate an Imperial traitor. With help from Intelligence, Max and Mir were able to track down the perpetrator that brazenly operated right on Zamoz itself. Leading a small army that cut down swaths of mercenaries, the twins would finally come face to face with the Imperial mole. Their father.

In a decision that would take seconds to make, but incur what might be a lifetime of debt, Max made the decision to protect his father while Mir made the decision go in for the kill. The two would square off, but explosions from the attacking army behind them would cause chaos before Max’s world went black. When his eyes opened to the unfamiliar feeling of solace, pain, and a note from his father via bloodstained digital pad, it would be a new beginning of an uncertain chapter of Maxis’ life.







Obfuscate: Maxis can envelop himself and others in complete darkness for a short time. While in the black,
vision is taken away and sound is severely dampened from those caught in it.

Solidify: The “shadows” that Maxis controls can also be formed into solid matter. It can be molded to be both smooth and sharp in the form of a dense, obsidian crystal of any shape or size.

Emperor’s Gift: Enhanced strength, speed, agility, and awareness. Thank you, my former liege.

Blades: While Maxis has experience with weapons of all sorts, his most cherished are his swords. They are both a smidge longer than a katana where their knife edge is actually concentrated energy.

Resources: A smart minister of death keeps resources available to them even beyond what their benefactor provides. Funds, supplies, and contacts are kept hidden, but well within reach.

Cybernetic arm: Maxis’ left arm was purposely removed for this hardware. It’s not completely indestructible, but being hit by it would probably ruin your day. It also acts as a small portable computer that can be used for all sorts of digital activities.



Maxis and his player is looking for: Anything, really. One of his biggest concerns is his sister, but he already knows that's a tall order that he's in no position to undertake alone. Allies, partners in crime, action, slow-going, espionage, big plots, it's all on the table. Anything goes here.
