Mia Santos

Name: Mia Santos
Age: 21
Sex: F

Appearance: Mia is a petite but attractive young woman of twenty-one. She has dark eyes that carry the wisdom and sadness of her short life but light up when she feels mischievous. Her raven hair cascades around her, probably her best feature, complimenting her dark skin. Mia tends to dress in a kaleidoscope of vibrant colors and patterns, reflecting a vibrant spirit, despite her often-hidden struggles but she usually dresses more conservatively for school or work.

Personality: Mia is smart, smart enough that people often under-estimate her. She is still very young so there are many things she doesn't know, but she doesn't like having to explain herself. It makes her feel challenged and insecure when people question her. Despite being a 'pretty girl' she has an indomitable spirit and a powerful determination to prove herself and build a future better than her past including an almost superhuman work ethic. But Mia is no genius, clever yes, but she also harder than anyone to get better grades than smarter students. She is a student at the university, with dreams of going to law school. She channels the relentless drive instilled in her by her single mother Marianne who ran a home daycare in their small home to make enough money to put her into University. Despite her demanding studies, she toils as a barista at Starbucks because mom's money isn't really enough. She's on the verge of being unable to pay her bills and having to drop out. Her life revolves around work and education, leaving little room for fun, romance or frivolity.

Background History: Mia's origin story begins with her mother, Marianne Santos, a resilient single mother running a home daycare to keep the lights on, food on the table and save up a little money to send Gabi to college to make a better life. It's this relentless pursuit of upward mobility that inspired her unwavering work ethic and instilled in her the significance of education as the key to unlock their future. And how those who have wealth and power use it to get more. With every exhausted breath her mother took, Mia vowed to ensure her mother's sacrifices were not in vain, to find that knowledge and power from an education and live better. Marianne's love and dedication molded her into the steadfast woman she is today. But the pressure of her upbringing put a strain between mother and daughter.

Fueled by her mother's devotion, Mia found herself straddling the divide between her academic pursuits and making enough money herself to pay her tuition bills. She might not have the power to leap tall buildings (yet), but she sometimes feels she is shouldering the weight of the world without flinching, bearing the weight of her mother's hopes on her shoulders.
