Arvid

A young man in a grim, brutal, tortured world, Arvid is determined to fight corruption as best he can. He has a bit of a reputation as a bit of an artist and carver, as he is known for carving and painting his Godinja masks. Some people see this as a valued skill. Certainly, he is often seen sitting smiling and chatting while carving away, and some people see that as soft, as weak, as undisciplined. He claims that he can shoot and fight as well as any, and like many of his kind, he's lean and  muscled in a wiry, athletic way; but though he moves gracefully with confidence in his step he doesn't give off a dangerous predatory quality such as a bear or a panther, unlike most of the tribe's fiercest warriors.

Should he be given a chance?

Is he too soft and weak to be in this clan? He speaks of Love, and Beauty, and Caring for youngsters, not boasting of plunder and conquests. Surely he is a soft, lazy weakling, choosing Women's work and Women's words, wishing to stay safe at home while Men fight and die in his stead. Cast him out.

He argues that no, that there is a fine line between bravery, prowess and glory, and corruption, madness and foulness.
Perhaps, say the tribal elders, but there is a fine line between generosity and nurturing and peace, and between softness, weakness and a decay of a different kind, and this is a hard land.

But that is the line I choose, say he.

Should be be given a chance?
