Tafnar

Originally a native to a land known for two things, driven sand and ceaseless war between regional warlords, the sandstorms are as much of a threat to survival as the flora and fauna is, and the non-stop wars claim an equal number of lives each year.

Unfortunately, he was one of the victims of a war he had no interest of being a part of. Tafnar survived the wars, but not without scars. The least of which are physical, the worst being of a metaphysical variant.

One of those metaphysical scars was due to the lengths he took to avoid being conscripted to fight for one side or another. He hid at night and traveled during the day. Unfortunately, the only way to hide was to hide among the bodies of the dead. Culturally it was a bit of minor desecration of the dead to move them enough to hide among them.

It was not until he had left the region and found civilization that he realized he had received a minor curse from the gods for his cowardice and desecration of the dead. He was told by a local wise woman that his soul has been tainted by the tomb and had been cut off from the healing of the heavens.

For reasons closely connected to culture, the curse he bears, and a need/want to hide their scars they prefer clothing that provides full body coverage.
(picture an explorer outfit with all the pockets something like that would have, now picture it as a one-piece loose-fitting jumpsuit, with matching cloves hood and a face mask similar to a "plague doctor mask")

For reasons of needing access to affordable and effective healthcare, he joined the military of the council of 12, currently holding the military rank of necropolitan.

Code of conduct

I always pursue criminals suspected to be undead with greater enthusiasm then living criminals.

The threshold to be labeled a criminal by Tafnar, is lower for undead.

If pressed to decide between the law and justice, Tafnar will choose justice.

It is not his responsibility to enforce the laws of the living, but justice and fairness should be universally promoted.
