Description: A grizzled soldier, Derek is powerfully-built and surprisingly light on his feet for a man of his advanced age. His hands are well callused and from them, one can tell he's martially-oriented; a farmer's or smith's callouses would be different. He has a very gruff and no-nonsense manner with everyone but his liege lady, to whom he is unfailingly polite and attentive. He wears his armor with an ease that younger soldiers might envy, and his weapons are well-maintained.

Character History: Derek is man-at-arms to Lady Alia Caulfort D'Armand and before her, her father Armelio Caulfort. His family were bannermen to the Caulforts in richer times, and he feels a deep loyalty even now, when the house is all but gone, save Alia, her husband, and two surviving sons. He was encouraged to flee with the other servants and soldiers, to scatter into anonymity to avoid the Black Dragonguards' wrath, but he refused to leave Alia's side.
