Character History: Clayton grew up just south of Corpus Christi on a farm owned by his grandfather. Although they didnt have much money, his life was mostly happy. Hed ride all day with his brothers, watching the cattle, and in the evenings theyd sit around the table laughing about how Tommy had fallen off his horse and Sam had walked into cow dung while trying to take a piss.
Nonetheless, Clayton often ached for more. So when the war started, he enlisted, hoping that hed be able to find adventure. He was fit and smart and over time he became an excellent shot. But, he still cant get the vision of his friends bleeding out next to him as he held their hands telling them theyd be back with their wife or their kid soon.
After it was all over, he could hardly face his family back home and instead wandered towards Laredo. Bosch had found him just shooting at lizards, told him hed pay him to keep order in his town. Feeling lost, Clayton agreed, and now hes trapped again in a job where he does nothing but hurt people. Listlessly, he follows to keep food in his belly. It isnt until he meets Leonia and her son Jacob that he can see a light.
