Nikolai is a strong sinewy man of 190cm and 90kg. He has slightly greying brownish hair cut in the traditional Cossack fashion which is long on top and shaved underneath. He also sports a long full beard. He has multiple scars from previous wars and has hooded inscrutable brown eyes. He wears a perpetual scowl and has a cold detached demeanor that many find intimidating or off-putting until they know him well enough to understand that it's mostly his natural appearance. He may be difficult to get through to, but once he accepts you into his circle he is more of a protective figure.

Born in eastern Ukraine Nikolai cut his teeth in the second Russo-ukranian war and later in the Turkish wars. He showed himself to be an exemplary scout and soldier during these conflicts and because of his commendations he was offered a coveted slot on the generational ships. At the rank of sergeant he was listed as the chief non commissioned officer of the ship.
