Jane Doe is a busy woman and, by extension, her assistant is just as busy. Jane doesn't directly involve herself in the Institute's affairs, unless the situation is dire.

Much more often, Will is the one Institute staff will speak with, if they have a request or an appointment to make with Ms. Doe. He tends to handle more than his fair share of work, and seems to act as middle management, in some ways.
