Legacy of Symbaroum
The Ambrians call you barbarians but you know better. Your ancestors ruled the kingdom of Symbaroum but they wandered too far into the darkness and were cast down. From the survivors your people rose and they all fought to make a living, each clan carving out their own way. It is not an easy life below the canopy of the great forest of Davokar, if you don’t know your way you will be swallowed.They say the forest was not always here. You don't know if that is true or not but you have lived your whole life here and know nothing else. It is not so bad in the bright parts where you grew up but the deeper you go the darker it gets and the corruption that brought down your ancestors is never far away.
Soon it is time for your rite of passage, a sacred test to determine if you are ready to become a full member of your clan and shoulder the legacy of Symbaroum.
What kind of game is it?
It is a game with an over-arching plot but where the players are free to choose their own course. The players will spend most of their time exploring ruins, myths and taboo places in the great forest of Davokar. It is a deadly place where survival isn't assured, in the darkness of the forest there is corruption, madness and death.
What is the game about?
The game is in part about protecting your clan and your family from constant threats - the ambrians from the south, the iron pact elves, the mighty beasts and of course the forest itself, corrupted and hungry. It is also about finding lost knowledge and exploring the past of your people.
The mechanics of it all
The foundation of the game is Symbaroum by Free League. While the setting is deep, rich and evocative the mechanics are a poor match for the play by post environment so the ruleset from Free Leagues new game Dragonbane will be used instead. Elements from the module Into the Wyrd and Wild will also be added to the game which brings darkness, danger and madness to the already wild forest.
As a player you will not need anything beyond the (free) Quickstart rules for Dragonbane.
