Re: COMMERCIAL LINK SANCTIONED BY THE COMPUTER
I want to remind people about "Power Points." Whenever you use a mutant power, you use Power points from your power attribute rating.
Your attribute ratings are:
Power: Measuring the strength of your mutant power.
Access: How smoothly you can get things done in the Alpha Complex bureaucracy. It measures your awareness of intricate clerical procedures and your ability to pull strings to get favors. (Different from security clearance, which measures the Computer's trust in you.)
NOTE: Before you go looking for your attribute ratings, let me remind you, YOU DON'T KNOW YOUR ATTRIBUTE RATINGS!
POWER POINTS: Every time you use your mutation, these are drained. The amount at which they are drained is determined by the GM based on the difficulty of the task you are attempting (usually 1 to 3 points). They are renewed at the end of each mission (or at intervals decided by the GM). Typically, I will have everyone regenerate points when the second person in the game reaches zero power points.
Some mutations allow you to choose how many Power Points you wish to use to amplify the effect. In your post using the mutation, you must specify how many you wish to use.
Example:
Bob has transmutation. His power score (unknown to him) is 11. He has used his mutant powers twice during the mission, using 1 power point each. So his current power score is 9. This time, he wants to do a hard task by turning water into credits. This will cost 3 power points. He must roll a 1d20. His currently reduced score is 9, so he has to roll a 9 or less. After deciding success or failure, his score is reduced to 6. The next time he tries to use his power, he must roll a 6 or less to succeed.
(REMEMBER: You can use perversity points to also help against attribute rolls!)
You never know if you are out of power points. Your mutation will just continue to fail.
Similarly, the access power points will drain to represent cashing in or requesting favors from connections.
